I needed a break from my R/W/B blocks this weekend so I finally laid out my chickens. I put them with my scrappy plaids from the Quilting Bee One Block Swap and I think it's just all the funkier. It seems to work because a lot of the chicken blocks have a plaid in them. This is a ways down the list to get put together, but I like the layout. I'll have to make a couple of small fillers and have some red chickenwire on cream background to use for that. I also have a bunch of plaids to use as a scrappy border. Can't wait to put it together for good. It may have to work it's way to the top of the list soon. LOL.

I agree...the scrappy plaids are just the right touch!! Now I want one even more but need to wait until I finish what I'm working on now.

Hi All, I'm new here and was looking at the funky chicken swap. All the chickens are just so much fun.
Has anyone ever done a cat swap? No, I'm not going to start it. I will keep an eye out if it does happen. :-)

Hey Moosegirl, hope you don't mind, but I get a crick in my neck so turned the pic for you. It's great.

Hey Pamela....there has been talk of a cat swap but I don't know if any one has ever hosted one. It seemed that at the time we were talking about it, there were like a million swaps going on. I might consider doing one after I finish all the IRR tops and get my Dear Jane under control though...it would be fun!

:D

Karen from Purdy, MO

I have been reading about the chicken blocks... so very interesting.. I noticed that you have a new machine. You will love your embroidery machine. I have two that I have had for several years. if I join this swap I will be embroidering my chickens.
Oh, yes, I wanted to tell you that I live fairly close to you. I go through Purdy in the summer going to Table Rock Lake. I grew up on a farm near Eagle Rock. Nice to see someone that is close to home.

Allene, this is a swap from last year, however there is a brand NEW Funky Chicken Block Swap started with a mail date of March 31, 2011.... you will find it in the swaps section here on the board. If you have trouble, post back on this thread and I'll provide you a link to it. Come on and join the FUN!!

Thanks so much, I am brand new to this, but love reading about everyone and what they are doing.

Ok, I'm in the middle of sewing down my applique. This is my first one I've ever done. I chose a stitch that is like a V with lines on each side.

Any guidelines with this? Do you match the thread with the colors? Or one thread for the whole thing?

I realize that it's a style thing - but what do most do?

sew cornie 02-05-2011 08:37 PM

Are you meaning to post this on the Funky Chicken Block Swap II? This one ended last spring but I believe there is a new one currently going on . . . .

Hey Jami...I know you probably DID mean to post on the current swap thread, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cent opinion in on here. On swaps, I usually match the thread to the applique piece or what just enhances the block itself. It will be going in with lots of other blocks.

heyjami 02-06-2011 11:23 AM

oops, wrong board, you're right!
Thanks for the reply!
