Here's a 30's block with a white backround.

Deedles 01-22-2010 12:06 PM

That's pretty! We could split the difference and go with bleached muslin. It's white and would still be authentic.

I've been looking at the WOW on line and what I have in my stash and I haven't seen any that don't have designs too 'modern' for the 30's. That's my main objection to the WOW.

We have had 7 votes for white, and three for muslin, one "Whatever you decide." Lol. I agree, lets do white muslin. Then the fabric focus will be on the 30's prints.

I'll go add it to the rules.

Sugarpumpkin 01-22-2010 01:22 PM

so we're doing bleached muslin? or white? Im confuzzled LOL

blueribbontoes 01-22-2010 01:54 PM

We are doing bleached muslin, which is also called white muslin. :)

Clear as mud, huh?

Good Evening to all my highly intellegent, creative, and imaginitive quilty friends: I need help big time. I have never purchased 30's reproduction fabric but I did purchase a large box of scraps at an estate sale for $5.00. Will someone please tell me if any of this is something I can use?

Thank you all so much
and God Bless!

missgigglewings, none of those look like 30s repros to me but people define them a bit differently. If you keep an eye on the Dear Jane threads, you'll see a few people using them in their blocks, mine included. Jennifer is using some for her blocks and I can get names of others for you if you'd like. The easiest way to get them is by checking with your local quilt shop. They generally have a section set aside for these fabrics. You can go online if you prefer...several members would be happy to point you in the right direction online.

Esqmommy 01-22-2010 05:45 PM

I'm not signing up, as I'm in the big cyber sew and feel overcommitted. I did want to comment - muslin does not hold up as well as cotton quilting fabric. You might want to reconsider...you'll get a crisper nice looking block with the WOW...but that's my opinion, and I'm not doing the swap.

Quilt Mom 01-22-2010 05:55 PM

Oooooh  I was hoping this swap would be a block or two a month. I will have to sit this one out. I have a major project that will be neglected if I try to do this.

Have fun, everyone! :D

Did ya'll see where Connecting Threads has their 30's repro fabrics on 50% off? They are Mama's Cottons 2. That makes them less than $3 a yard.

This CAN be true...there are several qualities of muslin. Some are more like starched cheesecloth and some are equal to quality quilting cottons. You just have to make sure you buy a good quality muslin. Like RocLon brand for instance.

kysmommy2 01-23-2010 12:03 AM

I'm totally in!! I'll probably do 4-8 sets, but I am unsure as to which ones...I think I will play with the patterns and then decide which I like best...is that OK???
LOVE this idea!! I have been waiting for something to use my 30's repro's on! Yippee!

Esqmommy 01-23-2010 07:31 AM

OMG, this one is sooooooo tempting. Do you know how busy I am??? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! LOL.

I'm thinking...I'm thinking...

blueribbontoes 01-23-2010 08:13 AM

Some people asked me why I have asked for any extra 30's styles blocks for my baby quilt.(If you make 7 instead of 6.) My second baby didn't receive any baby showers, presents, etc. (My first daughter received many home made gifts.) I want Em to have a blanket in which many people contributed in making. I want her to feel as if people were as exited for her birth as people were for H's. Does this make sense? I started her a hexagon quilt, but it won't be done for quite awhile... Lol. That project may never finished!

Don't feel as if you must contribute, everyone has been so kind on this board, I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

Am I being too foreward to ask? If so, please forgive me.

missgigglewings 01-23-2010 09:07 AM

With all you do for us?? Don't even think about it. I personally will be sending you extra blocks! Plus a little surprise for Em (once its done)! It will be sooner then 30 years.lol

peace and prayers

ebony 01-23-2010 09:32 AM

BRT... You're right! It doesn't hurt to ask and the worse that can happen is that they can say No...

How old is Em? Is she the one in your Avatar? She might need to get her glasses checked.. they seem just a tad to big.

Oooh you have a hexagon project too? I have 13 "flowers" that has stayed at 13 for .. ummmm.. maybe 4 months now.. I keep saying I'll do some tomorrow.. well tomorrow hasn't come yet.

My Em is going to be 9 months old on the 30th of January. My how the time flies.. she has 4 teeth and is crawling! My other "little" one, H, is going to be 4 in June. Eek, I still remember being pregnant with her... lol.

I do have a hexagon project. I am doing a color wave, from red blending through the rainbow to black, with grandmother's flower garden flowers around the outside. Some members of the forum have made about 10 or 12 flowers for me.. but I am sooooooo behind on the wave. Who thought it was a good idea to do half an inch hexagons? Bah. I only have red and yellow made into hexagons, but not sewn together yet. Beautiful to look at, tedious to do. One day I need to rent a movie and sit and sew, but now that Em is on the crawl, and H is super "helpful," i don't know when that will work, haha! I love my girls!

blueribbontoes 01-23-2010 07:04 PM

Come on Esq! We need your creativity!

I'll add you to the list, Sunrise! :)

craftymainemom 01-23-2010 07:22 PM

Hi ladies,
I had some white muslin, but seemed so thin, I went to Joann's and brought some white Kona muslin and it was 4.00 a YD and the one muslin was 4.99 a Yd and the Kona was much nicer. Works up great as well??

MadeinMaine 01-24-2010 11:25 AM

Wow, those are really, really pretty.

These are so pretty buddy'smom.

When you went to Joann's and were looking at the muslin, did you see on the end of the bolt what kind of muslin it was? Reason I ask is that I bought some RocLon muslin and it seems thicker..I guess you could say than the other muslins are. Just curious..

Oooh my... half an inch??? Those are teeny tiny.. but I bet it's pretty. Yes, it is very tedious to do.. mine have been sitting here staring at me but I ignore them most of the time.

Eventually you'll get to it.. and your girls are so important right now.. they'll be going to school before you know it and then you can sew.. but until then, just enjoy them.. cause as you know they do grow up fast.. My eldest DD just turned 30!! Of course I'm only 40. *ROTFLMAO* Then the 3 after her.. so yes, they grow up so very fast..to fast if you ask me. (I know they put something in the water for fast growing children).
