These are so pretty buddy'smom.

When you went to Joann's and were looking at the muslin, did you see on the end of the bolt what kind of muslin it was? Reason I ask is that I bought some RocLon muslin and it seems thicker..I guess you could say than the other muslins are. Just curious..

Just seem the Kona cotten ya can't see throgh as easy.

Thank you. That's probably what I'm going to get now.. cause this practice block is just horrible.. the muslin is almost see through and it's Roclon.. I think I paid $1.67 a yard.. maybe that's why too, but I don't get it, unless it's cause it's from W/M or just cheap stuff.. I try not to put down W/M, but this fabric is just horrible..
so if ya'll go to W/M and see this, PLEASE don't buy it.. it's just to thin...

Bad bad block

It's been a while since I pieces small blocks so I started easy with #8.

I'm also using Roclon muslin but it's different than what Tuesy found. Mine is #409 and is more like 300ct fabric. It doesn't wrinkle out of the dryer, presses very crisp and make a great sounds when you rip it!

First block #8

Tuesy, your block looks great, I'm gonna use the kona muslin, as I said even the 4.99 muslin at Joann's was very thin. My LQS has muslin as well but again it's thin. Gonna put alot of time into pp the tiny blocks I want them to last with the rest of the quilt.

Very pretty block & nice colors.

blueribbontoes 01-25-2010 06:51 AM

Tuesy, you can "save" your block by ironing some interfacing on the back of it. It will help with the translucently of the white.

If you are having issues with the muslin, this goes for everyone!, you may use 100% cotton WHITE quilting fabric. (NOT White with patterns or WOW)

Great looking blocks Deedles and Tuesy!

cjt_mama 01-25-2010 06:52 AM

Is that kona cotton we are talking about or do they have a kona muslin? I have pure white kona, and do like it better than the muslin I puchased, but my muslin is also not that thin I dont think. I will post a pic later perhaps

I'm thinking of playing, but once I open the link page where the quilt is shown along with comments, I cannot open the the block pattern file. I get a blank white screen.

I have had this problem with other sites as well. We can't seem to get it fixed. Any ideas?

Yes it's kona muslin.

Do you have a compatibility button on the top right of your web bar? It looks like a broken page. If so, try clicking that and see if it helps.

Does anyone know of a good fabric website that had really good prices and lots of selection of 30's repro fabric? I don't know when I will be able to get to the LQS or Joann and thought it might be easier if it came to me LOL

kysmommy2 01-25-2010 10:35 AM

connecting threads has great prices. Not sure of their 30's selection though. Also you can try

YES- Fusible web maybe used.
YES- Multiple block numbers are ok. (For instance, if more than one person wants to do block 50.)

Sugarpumpkin..I bought mine off eBay last year..you might try there or just type in 30's reproduction fabrics in google and it should pull up alot of places..

craftymainemom 01-25-2010 03:55 PM

I just went online to the quilt patch website. The website is a little confusing but once I figured it out they have a really good 30's reproductions selection.

Sugarpumpkin 01-25-2010 04:04 PM

whats the website?

wilhelmina 01-25-2010 07:15 PM

Wow, these little gems look like fun! Count me in, I will make 34, 48, 63, 74, 87. :)

Don't feel as if you must contribute, everyone has been so kind on this board, I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

Am I being too foreward to ask? If so, please forgive me.

Just finishing up a little surprise for you.
I'll get it in the mail - Ummm....maybe tomorrow.

Last night after I signed up to join this swap I shopped for fabric! Yes, I bought 6-1/2 yards of Mama's Cotton, authentic 1930's reproduction prints from Connecting Threads, on sale!!! I have some 1930's fabric in my stash, but not enough. So...once the fabric arrives I will be busy.

Hey, BRT - Hope you can let us know if you are all OK <??> - you've got lots of friends here on the Board wondering how you and Em are doing today. Fingers crossed that things are better!

Hi guys! Sorry for ignoring you- I have been posting a little bit on the quilting bee thread, as if I don't do that daily, the pm's just pile up!

Baby Emme update: We had another doctor appointment. She lot a whole pound, which is quite a lot in a baby. They are still not sure what is causing the vomiting and diarrhea, so other than keeping her on the strong anti-vomit medicine, and keeping her stuffed with fluids, there isn't much we can do. My doctor is actually really good, and is trusting me to keep Emme safe rather than putting her in the hospital for iv fluids. (He told me that he wouldn't trust everyone at home, scary thought!) Everyday Em gets a bit better, but she still isn't the happy little Em I know. We spend a lot of time curled up together cuddling. She wants NO ONE but Mommy. Im so glad my toddler, Harper, is such a good girl and isn't demanding Mommah too much... which helps keep me sane! I need to figure out how to be in more than one place at once.. lol...

I am reading along the quilt threads via blackberry, as there isn't too much I can do while anchored on the couch. I DO get all of your pm's, however, and will make the changes people have asked/add new members when things calm down a bit here. Thanks for understanding, all the prayers and kind thoughts!

Im so grateful for friends like you!

MadeinMaine 01-28-2010 06:57 PM

THANKS for the update. Keep up the good work and stay healthy yourself! :D

blueribbontoes 01-29-2010 03:06 PM

Em is doing a thousand times better today! Which means I can now catch up on some swaps so I can focus on my mini blocks! Whoo hoo!

blueribbontoes 01-29-2010 03:08 PM

Lol- priorities, huh?

Sugarpumpkin 01-29-2010 03:44 PM

Glad to hear Em is feeling better!
There is a nasty bug going around lately :(

YAY!! I'm so glad she's better!!... I got 4 of my 5 sets done.. might have to redo one block on the last set I did today. Dont' know if I'm happy with it..

MadeinMaine 01-29-2010 07:34 PM

Yaaay, Em! That's a relief. Bet that sewing machine is smokin' now!

blueribbontoes 01-30-2010 07:52 PM

Actually, MadeinMaine, I just got my fabric today. I couldn't decide which one I liked the best, so I bought 5 fat quarters. That ought to get me started! This swap will be too much fun!

2doods sent Em the most adorable set of paperpieced (?) Blocks that spell out Em's name.(Thank you!!!!!!) It really has motivated me to get busy with this swap- I want to have as many different blocks in her quilt as I can make to trade without going blind or batty. (Well. The process of going batty has already started, hahaha!!) This will be great fun.. I'm glad we have had a good turn out of people. Yea us!

blueribbontoes 01-30-2010 07:53 PM
