Welcome to the Great Big Mini Block Swap! This block swap will be for 4.5 (5 inch unfinished) blocks taken from the following website:

http://sentimentalstitches.net/free-...midget-blocks/
(The blocks are available as PDFs. )

Fabric should be washed, dried and ironed. Please send what you want to receive. Please consider prewashing a social obligation and courtesy to any who may have allergies and or live in smoke and animal free environments. Please use 100% cotton.

Please only use 30’s reproduction fabric and bleached muslin (white muslin) for the background.

There are 91 blocks to choose from on the website. To participate in the swap, please choose one (or more) pattern(s) from the website listed above. To help narrow down your selection, I will attempt to list all 91 blocks and their construction method.

You will make 6 blocks all alike and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage which will be used to return your blocks to you. You will receive one of your blocks and 5 other unique blocks from other swap members. Since you will be getting blocks from so many other people, PLEASE MARK your blocks with a slip of paper- pinned on, or a paper sticker label, etc, with your online name and/or your real name. (Since these blocks are so small, a paper sticker label on the back of your block may be the best solution.)

You may make multiple sets of 6 blocks. You will receive as many sets in return as you send in.

Please have your blocks in the mail to me by MAY 15TH. Sign up closes April 30th. I will have them returned to you as quickly as humanly possible.

Welcome aboard! This swap should be lots of fun- I can't wait to see how they look in real life. The paper versions are adorable...

Sugarpumpkin, just head to a fabric or quilt shop. They'll show you- the reproductions are too cute for words!

Thank you. :-D This is my "can't think of things day"

blueribbontoes 01-21-2010 03:15 PM

I think white would look better with the 30's fabric, so we'll do white or white on white. (W0W) Thank you for reminding me about the background, I didn't think about. (Oops!)

sewjoyce 01-21-2010 03:16 PM

Would like to join in. Do I need to tell you which block(s) I'm doing or can it be a surprise (maybe to me too)?

blueribbontoes 01-21-2010 03:20 PM

SewJoyce, the blocks can be a surprise! How many sets would you like so I can attempt to keep track?

sewjoyce 01-21-2010 03:24 PM

I can do at least one set and hopefully more. But let's just start with one :D

krazy4quilts 01-21-2010 04:10 PM

I am thinking about it.

charismah 01-21-2010 05:16 PM

Of course I am in on this swap...I have 15 minutes until my lab class starts...so I will figure out which blocks i am doing later....but I will probably do multiple sets as well....see ya later tonight!

MadeinMaine 01-21-2010 05:49 PM

Please put me down for one set of #56 and one set of #88.
Thanks for setting this up.

Deedles 01-21-2010 05:59 PM

Tuesy has twisted my arm....I'm in for at least a couple. I'm still trying to decide which ones.

Did I read that the background has to be WOW? I don't want to be difficult but I would think muslin would be more authentic for that period. I can't think of any 30's WOW.

Oh...can I use original 30's feed sacks?

blueribbontoes 01-21-2010 06:47 PM

Well, I'll put it up to a vote, who prefers muslin? Most 30's fabric I have seen has white accents. I'm not an expert. (Just reporting on what I saw at the quilt store last week.)

Yes, you could use real feed sacks! Neat!

buddy'smom 01-21-2010 06:48 PM

I have alway's done my 30's with white or WOW.??

tuesy 01-21-2010 06:51 PM

I like muslin..and since I have some, that'd work for me.

BUT if y'all prefer the WOW, just tell me where some is... I can't find any.

I've only seen the white b/g with little teeny tiny dots of .. either red, blue, green, etc..

Yes, lots of the 30's fabric had white accents in the fabrics. But for large areas like backgrounds, muslin was usually used because it was cheap and readily available from feed or flour sacks, they didn't have to use their carefully hoarded print fabrics.

I vote for muslin.

sharon b 01-21-2010 07:20 PM

I sent you a PM to sign up... I have no preference for the background , but I do have another question. Can there be dupicate sets ? Like can more than one person make , for example, block 60?
THANKS for hosting this

cjt_mama 01-21-2010 07:54 PM

I am ok with either background, but would prefer white/wow.

missgigglewings 01-21-2010 07:54 PM

How about bleached muslin? Its white, and sews up nicely. if not, then regular muslin gets my vote.

buddy'smom 01-21-2010 11:51 PM

I like WOW or whit, but which ever is fine??

LovingIzabella 01-22-2010 04:41 AM

I'll go with majority but I do prefer the white as well.
Hugs
April

Oh Yeah since you told mom there could be duplicates I would like to do a set of #8 as well :-)

NorBanaquilts 01-22-2010 05:59 AM

I prefer white, whether it's bleached muslin, white or WOW

cjt_mama 01-22-2010 06:53 AM

I would like to do 11, 54, and 60. Looking for an applique one as well I believe

blueribbontoes 01-22-2010 07:00 AM

Im going to wait for a few more responses before declaring the background. I don't think we're going to authentic reproduction, rather the "feel" of the pretty thirties fabrics.

YES- Fusible web maybe used.
YES- Multiple block numbers are ok. (For instance, if more than one person wants to do block 50.)

charismah 01-22-2010 07:45 AM

I am thinking I will do 6-8 sets. I am not sure which numbers yet...I want to see which ones don't get taken and I will do those ones..if it is at all possible I would like to try and get as much variety of the blocks as we can....so I will do the harder ones or whatever.

charismah 01-22-2010 07:47 AM

OH As far as background...I am not really picky...I know that muslin was the fabric of the time period but I think I prefer WOW...but I will go either way...that didn't help either side I am sure...LOL. OK I will vote white or WOW.

Sugarpumpkin 01-22-2010 08:31 AM

I would prefer white or WOW :)
