No jellyfish please, lol. Oh, the bad memories I have from childhood from jellyfish. I grew up in Jacksonville, FL. We always went to the north jetties to go to the beach right across from where the aircraft carriers docked at NAS Jax in Mayport. That side was really deep with only little kisses of waves tickling the shore, and the other side of the wall where the beach was was normal beach. People would walk out the seawall to fish all the time. On the other end of the beach is a point, then it comes back around to a small bay with gentle waves where the Intercoastal Waterway begins. It's calm enough that people used to windsurf in that area, but I think it's closed now. In the bay is where all the baby jellyfish live until they're big enough to deal with the bigger waves, but on the beach side is where all the big jellyfish live, stinging people like crazy all over. When they're ready to die, they wash up on the other side of the seawall on the deep side.

When I was a kid, mom's boyfriend's (at the time) daughter would go poke the dying ones with sticks and look at how their insides worked as they laid on the beach, happy that this was another one that couldn't sting us. During the time that they were in the other two areas, we were bored to death at the beach. Couldn't swim, couldn't ride waves, and the adults weren't driving all the way back home just because we couldn't play. When I got old enough to throw it, we would catch them in shrimp nets. I hated when that happened! You can't hardly get the suckers out.

OK, I stop rambling now. I think it's bedtime....

obviously, i have not had such traumatic experiences with jellyfish, only 1 or 2 terrifying run ins. but i think they are very cool. i guess i was lucky to have a couple of boy children. i was always fascinated by the natural world.... except for skinks. really! they weird me out like crazy!! i'm good with snakes, i'm good with lizards, but i am not good with an animal that is half of each. i get nauseated just thinking about it! but if the general feeling is no jellyfish, i can live with that!
goodnite, dsm!

Hi,

I joined the swap Friday and I'm looking forward to the fun. I'm on disability because I'm being treated for Multi Myeloma which make my bones brittle (not as bad as it was when first diagnosed). Any way I enjoy quilting and makeing things. I love this time of year because I like to veggie garden. Last July I got a new kitten that just turned 1 yr. old a couple of weeks ago. He is all white except for about 12 black hairs over his left eye, it looks like a dirt smudge. I almost named him Smudge but decided on naming him Kona Snow instead. I open all the windows in my apartment today (temp was good for that) and he just went nuts running from window to window it wore him out he is sleeping now next to me.

I've been reading all the posts so far and everyone it sounds like is having fun already. Well I best get going and do some sewing for other swaps that I'm in.

Welcome Donna, you will like this forum. we chat about all sorts of things including quilting! (imagine that!).
Kelly YAHOO!!!! oh oh pick me pick me!!! oh wait you arent picking are you? its that sneaky dustysmomma with her fancy dancy system for picking. I am positive of one thing. she will pick someone!

Ok jelly fish: went snorkling at Capt.Cook bay in Hawaii the dive instructor said there are jellyfish but they rarely bother anyone.. so you can put on a wet suit or just swim I dumb bunny bought into the they rarely sting theory. I got stung three times before I hauled my tail out of the water and said I am done thank you very much. Six months I carried those ring marks on my arms and legs. Everytime I showered they stung and rose up again. Never again swim with a jelly fish I tell myself. No issue at all not doing it either. I did get to see a huge morray eel poke his head out and stare at me thing was almost as big as me yikes! and sea turtles lots of those oh so much fun and well fish for days. darned jelly fish for getting in the way of my fun. I hold those little jello things in reverence now. lol.

I worked on my tropical tablerunner today and posted a sneak peak in anastasias swap. Its failing my passing grade of fun colors. think I might need a plan b unless my partner mentions how much she loves it. its so.. pastel. like spring not summer I tried!

In Denmark, at the tiny little "beach" close to where my boyfriend's brother lives, when it's season for all the jellyfish to come to the shallows, it's no big deal. There's a little dock out into the water, and going out on it and climbing in is how everyone gets in & out. They just climb right in with them. The kids go out there with buckets and play in the water with them, scoop them up and pour them out on the dock so they can look at them, etc. These ones actually don't sting. It's the weirdest thing. The one time we were there during this, I refused to get in the water until I got so hot I couldn't stand it. Even then, I got went and got out because I felt so slimy from being touched by them that it skeeved me out. I don't think I've ever taken a shower that long there before trying to get that feeling out of my head.

Dusty's gone on his first trip to Atlanta today. OK, why is that a big deal? He's 20 and I'm still, in my head, thinking this is the first time he's going without an adult. I guess I should say he's gone for the first time without a parent...anyone's. I didn't drive in Atlanta until I was 25. The other girl he went with is actually driving, at least that's what I was told anyway. At least it's on a Sunday. Those people are still crazy, but there's not as many of them on the road then. Compared to Atlanta, we live in Mayberry though, and he's still had 2 accidents (the last one was about 15 months ago), which is why I haven't been willing to let him drive to Atlanta or in Atlanta.

OK, time to go get on my runner. I've been on the heating pad with my shoulder most of the day. Gotta get something productive in today!

This is totally not home-decor related (or is it? I can answer that question below) but I finished the final 3 borders on a quilt that I'm sending to the state fair for judging this summer. It's the second time I've done the quilt but I reworked the colors to have 2 distinct hearts rather than 1 heart & a shadow (The pink/white is the original version with color choices as indicated on the pattern). The blue/white is tonight's finish.

So, how is this home decor? I have a place of honor on my wall waiting for the quilt after the fair is over.

oh we dont do just home decor in our chat here Kelly girl. Obviously we chat about Jelly Fish, and food, and parties and new dresses and fancy hair cuts, skunks and other critters. Conversation central. I love your quilt and much prefer the blue one that is superb. I think it goes lovely ontop of MY white down blanket oh that would be a lovely combo. Send it on over I will just ..borrow it for a while, like years, and return it only if I really have to. I ship slowly maybe another few years so I hope your patient. That is home decor because.. it decorates wall, beds or couches depending on where you want to put it. :)
