Okay buddies, Here is something you don't see everyday.

It always happens this way. Just after bed time when I was all cozy and starting a restful night, DH and I had a visitor and after an hour visit, left in an unconventional way.

It showed very good taste when it decided to rest on my bunny quilt

It was a most amazing visit. The little one was flying around the bedroom entertaining us with amazing acrobatics. It dodged us many times as we stood there in awe of this little creatures abilities to avoid us.

We turned the room lights out and the outside lights on, opened the windows and removed the screens. Eventually the little bat made the window hole and was gone in the night after DH caught it in a bucket and put it out the window.

This is the first year in about the last three that we are seeing bats again. We have counted 6 this year. I am so very happy they are making a return.

Hope you are not too afraid of them.
peace

My next chapter is about moving my sewing table upstairs to the living room. The cutting, ironing and design wall will remain downstairs.
I decided to do this when I realized I was just plain avoiding going to the studio after work because I am so tired after a long day. Now I can walk through my door and the the sewing table is right in front of me and I can do all the household work like cooking and cleaning and still be near my sewing.

Here is the new sewing wall

The current project. Wait till you see what this is going to be!

This is the next project. Some of the fabric (1/4 yds) is washed in a pillowcase, hung on the line inside out and sprayed with my home made starch. it will dry and then I will steam iron it to remove wrinkles. I get a nice stiff fabric to work with this way

I had to show something that is quilting related even though not the swap piece, yet!

Make your week a good one.

Wow loved your visitor, Ube. I love bats. They are the reason I can sit on my back dek and not get eaten by mosquitos.

So here is my finished swap top. I need opinions because this one was a struggle. I converted the pattern from a paper pieced one and what I thought would be easy, was not. Not only that, as usual, I managed to clip off some of the points on the triangles.

So the question is, is this good enough for the swap? I hate work that is not 100%, especially with all the talented quilters on this swap, but the top is pretty. I am just sad that some of the points are missing.

Let me know and I can do another top instead.

ube quilting 09-08-2015 12:39 PM

It is gorgeous, J. Oh my, just gorgeous. Now go ahead and make another one just for me.:D It's a log cabin block, right? and two rows have the extra background piece added to it. I can do that! Four with three rounds big and the rest with two. How cool. The layout is terrific.

I wouldn't worry about missing points. There are no perfect flowers, they are all individually unique.

I would call it a desert rose.

Thanks ube! I can send you directions if you want. Its easy, I just wish my piecework was better. I will layer and quilt it this week-probably stitch in the ditch to outline the design.

MarionsQuilts 09-09-2015 03:07 PM

Love that visitor Ube!

J - that is gorgeous, I wouldn't even attempt that (yet LOL) nothing is perfect - it's done by hand, it's impossible!!!

JNCT14 09-09-2015 03:14 PM

Glad everyone likes it, one of you will get it! :) started quilting it this morning. ...

It was a really nice show and I always enjoy it. Seeing OPQs gives me renewed perspective on my work and challenges me to be more creative with every attempt I make doing the thing I love most.

Wow that's gorgeous. I started a bunch of Baltimore blocks but never finished enough to make a full quilt. I used to really like hand applique - I'll have to try to get back in it.

I am almost finished with my 'Desert Rose' (thanks ube!) wall hanging. In spite of the fits I had with the pattern and cutting off some of the points, I think it came out well. Once I wash it, I will post pictures.

Need to start on another wall hangng for a house warming gift. For some reason, I cannot come up with a pattern idea. Anyone got suggestions?

ube quilting 09-21-2015 12:45 PM

J, how about a schoolhouse block, or house block with the date and Welcome on the door! I must confess I do this for new home owners all the time.

I am anxious to see the Desert Rose!

Hello all ... just dropped in to see what was going on ... some fabulous quilts on display! Ube, loved the bat picture, and glad to hear he found his way back outside (with a little help!)

Funny story about bats - my friend and I were cycling home one evening (I was about 15 years old at the time - long long long ago!) and it was dusk and the bats were coming out. My friend pipes up ... wow, those birds are pretty amazing, I can't believe they can see when it's almost dark.

I never said a word - I knew how terrified she was of bats. I told her the next day and it was pretty funny - she was stunned that they didn't "attack" her and get all tangled in her hair! Ah the myths surrounding these poor creatures! I don't think she ever went biking around dusk again.

That's a great story Marion. I have no fear of bats or most animals, except spiders!

I still haven't started my WH yet but I have been doing more embroidery on a special project and this:

I titled it "Oh, Poppycock"

The pattern came from a QNM magazine from 1989. I converted the simple pattern from templates to PPing and it is so simple to put together. This is another one that I just want to get the top completed before I start the WHing.

It all started with "had a dream"....ever started something and then thought "what was I thinking" Today was the day for me and then after cutting and sewing all day I wondered what I was thinking. Here's a peak...little 2" squares and all of these colors will be used and a few more I think. Hope this works or I need to start again

Kassaundra 09-26-2015 07:56 PM

ube quilting 09-27-2015 02:40 PM

J, It is lovely. What are the dimensions?

I haven't started yet. We have till the end of October, right? I better get busy! The interlocking blocks are all finished and now I have to put them together and add borders.

I have to get to the WHing soon, right, soon!

Make your week a good one!

JNCT14 09-27-2015 03:07 PM

Its 36" x36". A bit bigger than I intended but good size for a hanging
I washed and dried it. No iron- I wanted yhat crinkly effect.

skaduzy 09-27-2015 07:14 PM

ube,
what a beautiful quilt! you deserve 'Best of Show'!

jaba 09-28-2015 10:41 AM

JNCT your wall hanging is beautiful! I'd have to use it on my table...don't have that much wall space. That's what I get for having all these huge windows in my house. Mine is about 25"x25" but may make another one. Just a question for everyone, I'm curious... I'm wondering if everyone has room for a hanging this large? If not what would your ideal size be??

ube quilting 09-28-2015 02:21 PM

I also have limited wall space so I hang quilts on every little piece of vertical area I have from the side of the fridge, all the doors in the house ( on both sides), the sides of cupboards and for shower curtains. There is nowhere I won't hang a quilt!

As for size, I have no preference, I will find a way to hang or use any quilt!:D

Jaba, I should ask what size is best for you?

Due to the lack of my own intelligence, I think I left out a bit of information on the picture of the Best in Show quilt. I only attended the show and I only wish the BISQ was mine.:D I am so very sorry for any mis interpretation. It was not intentional.

The only wall space I really have is a wall in the eating area of my kitchen. I have one of those "Welcome" metal hangers on that wall, from Annie's I think, and that's where I hang them. About 22" is what it will fit on the rod. Can put hoop holders on it to make it go larger but the width of the wall is 41". Literally the whole front and back of my house is large windows from almost ceiling to floor. The only other wall in the main living room has a big rock fireplace on it. I have room downstairs but then they don't get seen very often.
I was really just wondering if there was a limit on anyone's space as then if they were my partner I wanted to send something that they could use, or hope they would use. I hope I'm making some sense here I'm not wanting to hurt feelings I have just always wondered since there is no size really stated.
Here's what I have so far from my pile of fabric that I posted earlier.

ube quilting 09-28-2015 03:11 PM

These things are really nice to know. IMHO, 2' sq or a little larger or smaller seems to be a good average size. Think about what you see in quilt shops and that is about the general size.

Your DLHL quilt is terrific.

JNCT14 09-29-2015 01:20 AM

Jaba that is really lovely. As far as size goes, I received two WH on this swap yhat were a little too big to hang but look terrific on my kitchen table. I also thought that I received one that I dont have room to hang, it will be the focal point of my next quilt (QAYG). Cant have too many of those!

jaba 09-29-2015 04:57 AM

Never thought about using them for a QAYG what a great idea! I have used them on my table and the larger ones look very nice.

JNCT14 09-29-2015 10:12 AM

Do I spy a Broncos fan? OMAHA!

ube quilting 09-29-2015 03:39 PM

OMAHA!
OMAHA!

Green Bay!!!

JNCT14 09-29-2015 04:57 PM

Actually its GO PATRIOTS but I do love Peyton Manning

jaba 09-29-2015 05:08 PM

Most certainly JNCT14, from Wyoming you know and I also lived in Denver and went to every game. Moved back to Wyoming and then bought another house in Denver just to go to the games. Sold that last year :( now hotel rooms) Funny though my hubby is a big Green Bay fan....okay in this house until they play each other...we go to separate rooms and TV's :) gets kind of quiet for one of us..............

Rhonda 09-29-2015 08:44 PM

What wonderful pictures I spy!! Love seeing you guys keeping this thread active and alive.

Our deadline is fast approaching! I can't wait to see all the wonderful wall hangings this next month!

Annaquilts 09-30-2015 08:12 AM

I know it is late but can people still join?

ube quilting 09-30-2015 02:37 PM

Hi Annaquilts. Yes you can join. Just PM Rhonda and let her know and give her your information. All the instructions you need is at the top of the first page of this thread. So happy you can play!
peace

Rhonda 09-30-2015 04:04 PM

Sure you can Anna I just need your postal address and email address. If you are allergic to anything Can you send international or not? If you have pets I think that is all.

I set this up so anyone who has a wall hanging done and ready to mail by the last day can join in. So you need to let me know when your wall hanging it done and ready to mail. I keep a Ready to Mail list instead of a sign up list.

So if you are not on the Ready to Mail list you won't receive an address to send to. Make sure you pm me when you are done so you can get on my list.

JNCT14 09-30-2015 05:24 PM

Come play, Anna! Its fun!
