The apple is a hint and it will all make sense after I eat it. Hint LOL
It might take some time till I post the picture of the scraps but the wall hanging is off to a good start.

Juicy, Anna. I think we're getting to the core on this one!

Changed my mind today and pieced 2 more, now I cut out pieces for another one. Don't know why I can't decide this time around, guess I get it done or not...

LOL You and I. I am also debating about starting another one. I always struggle and second guess if people will like it. The dumb part is I like it how it is coming but I still feel insecure.

JNCT14 10-02-2015 01:06 AM

Anna everyone will love it. We have fun with this swap!

Kassaundra 10-02-2015 12:16 PM

I had an idea today, my WH may become 3D

Annaquilts 10-02-2015 01:24 PM

Thanks for the vote of confidence JNCT14. I am persevering with my original idea. Slow go but it is coming together nicely.

jaba 10-02-2015 04:57 PM

Ready to sew binding and this time I'm not changing my mind. Totally new wall hanging so hope my partner will like this one.

JNCT14 10-03-2015 04:39 PM

Silly jaba. We all LOVE your work!

JNCT14 10-03-2015 04:42 PM

Wow Kassaundra you have such cool ideas! How will you do that?

Rhonda 10-03-2015 07:50 PM

Sounds great Kassaundra. You always do some amazing quilt work. The peacock wall hanging already has a 3 D feeling. It is very pretty!

jaba 10-04-2015 06:06 AM

Finished the binding on the wall hanging last night! Someone will get it, will post a pic when I get to the sewing cave today:)
Rhonda, I am ready to mail :)

Here's a little fall wall hanging, hope my partner will like it

Very pretty, love the colors.

jaba 10-04-2015 04:56 PM

Thanks Kass, usually my photo's show the right colors and these are a little muted for some reason. They are much brighter and intense than what they appear.

Looks and sounds great to me. I am still busy piecing. It has been a long weekend including a funeral. No fun. Hopefully the week will be uneventful and I will get the top done.

Some more clues. These are actually the scraps as I did not remember to take pictures before I cut.

The top is actually done and ready to be quilted. It was a little challenging sewing curved pieces but fun at the same time. Now I need to figure out how to quilt it and then how to bind it.

ube quilting 10-07-2015 02:21 PM

Anna, I just knew it was an apple core you were hinting at! Are you hand or machine piecing this?

Can you give us a quick description of your technique or plan of action!

I tried an apple core many years ago and stopped when it reached the size of a place mat. I was machine piecing and the assembly had so much stop and start and pin and turn and this way then that way, I gave up on it.

The first row is so easy and then to add rows the instructions said to sew all the convex parts first and then go back to sew the concave parts as you sew each row. It was way to complicated for me back in the day. I would give it another go if I didn't have so many other UFOs to work on!:D

I really like this pattern and don't see it made much these days. I am happy you are doing it.

peace

I am machine piecing and this is my first apple quilt. I thought it would be perfect for a wallhanging as it is a smaller project yet I will get enough practice. Like you said it is a lot of pinning and matching. It is slow go for me too. Lets just say I am not signing up for a twin or bigger. LOL Let me see if I can find the link I watched.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC2sc3pmdtg

Without seeing this I might have tried English paper piecing but I really wanted to try and machine piece. In the future I could see doing a small quilt for a special baby girl but I think it would be too much for me to do much larger. I still have to quilt it and have not decided on a pattern yet. After that is the binding and I think it is more intimidating to me then the machine piecing. I hope to keep all the curves and points and fortunately found a tutorial online that uses premade bought binding. But step by step. I never even thought I would make an apple core quilt because of all the curves.

Kassaundra 10-09-2015 06:56 PM

Got the binding sewn on, just need to do the hand sewing to the back to finish the binding, then the special "adds". I forget who was going to use the WH as the center of a medallion quilt, but mine won't work for that. I "tested" some of the adds today by placing in / on / around but not securing anything and I love it.

JNCT14 10-11-2015 03:26 AM

Hey Kassaundra that was my suggestion if the received WH was too big to hang. You are right -not all are suitable.

I loved the idea of doing that, and is an idea I will keep in mind.

Kassaundra 10-11-2015 05:50 AM

The backing fabric of mine is upholstery fabric, loved the weight it gives the WH, and the colors coordinated so well. The front may or may not have any or all of gold lame', lace, rope, buttons ............................... but those are "spoilers", sweetie.
(anybody get that?)

ube quilting 10-11-2015 02:35 PM

as time consuming as they are, apple cores are also peaceful to do and I found doing the few I did satisfying.

Love your machine!

Have I even started yet? NOPE. I am going to have to pull a trick out of my hat this time. Agggggh.
Make your week a good one.
peace

I just finished this one for a friend as a housewarming gift. I have enough blocks to do another one in blue for our next swap (or maybe I should give it to ube since she hasn't start hers? LOL).

I also just ordered an RJR kit from Craftsy. I never order kits - the yardage is way too expensive - but this was on sale for $32 plus shipping so the price/yard wasn't terrible. I am probably going to add extra borders to make it a little larger - its 51" x 71" in the kit.

JNCT14 10-12-2015 08:47 AM

Hey jaba or Kassaundra - what the heck is a Boom swap? I always wanted to know but was too afraid to ask.....

Kassaundra 10-12-2015 09:28 AM

Boom swaps are "the bomb"!!!! lol Each quilter pics fabric they want to use. Cut one F8 for each swapper. Send your F8's along w/ basic instructions (preferred colors, don't use colors, etc..) to the moderator she sends each swapper one of each of the F8's. Finish all blocks w/ all the different types of fabrics however you are inspired (w/I the wishes of the F8 owner) send back to the mod. she sorts so everyone gets the blocks made w/ their own F8 and sends them back. A little extra on postage ($6.10 x 4 mailings over several months) but so much fun. Go onto the latest boom swap thread the first post, at the end of her post is a link to a pic gallery where you can see the fabrics and what each quilter did w/ it.

JNCT14 10-12-2015 04:26 PM

I saw some of jaba's pics - really pretty. How many blocks do you end up with?

jaba 10-12-2015 06:04 PM

Depends on the group size, max is 18 I think. Most of the time 12 - 14. Not always can you use all of the blocks, but what I enjoy is making them for others and getting back friendship blocks from women that I don't know from all over the USA. Another fun thing actually for me, because I have done them since I joined the board, is to receive 1 from someone who just started quilting and then see the improvement she has made. Just kind of a quirk I guess :) and being retired....it keeps me busy!! Shutter to think about the blocks I probably made when I first started.....
