Dear Jan, I know your pain and you will make it through. I am sure you feel your husband near you all the time....I know I feel Joe all around me. Bless you and wishing you quiet peace. Sharon

luvstoquilt 06-17-2012 07:32 AM

Hi Lori, I am glad you made it home without getting hurt. I am sure it was a scary walk though! When I lived in NJ we had several power failures that lasted for 2 or 3 days..the worst part for me was just that it was really BORING at night. Can't see to read, tv won't work, etc. Very inconvenient. Hope it doesn't happen again to you and Marty!

Quilty-Louise 06-17-2012 07:43 AM

Dear Jan,

I KNOW your pain as I have been there twice in my life,
its never easy but I can imagine how much harder it is
when you have been married as long as you were.

My heart goes out to you, the family and friends.

Lori...wow, sounds like you had some scary moments there with the awful weather. I'm so glad you made it home safely!

Jan...so very sorry for your loss. It is good to have family surrounding you during this very difficult time. It will help you adjust and keep you surrounded by the love and comfort of family. And your hubby may not be with you physically but I am certain that he is with you in spirit and hoping that you will be happy and at peace. {{Hugs}}

lawsonmugs 06-17-2012 08:46 AM

Krystyna I was thinking maybe use the bling as a slide on a scarf. Not sure that is what you would call it. Or maybe ad a decorative strap on a tote or purse and slide one on it. Maybe make some kind of hair decor. with them also.I can't really tell the size of them. So maybe what I suggested is totally wrong. Not like me to be wrong though.LOL.

mdall 06-17-2012 08:49 AM

Still waiting on mine to arrive, cant wait to get it.

Krystyna 06-17-2012 08:50 AM

Here's the thing, Mary. If you put it on a scarf, it would just slide off and fall on the floor. As far as the tote goes, you would end up covering part of the cystals, so that's why I don't think that's what they are for. The mystery continues ...

lawsonmugs 06-17-2012 08:51 AM

Lori I know power loss is kinda scarey.Especially away from home and outside. 5 yrs ago a terrible ice storm passed through here in Missouri and we lost power for 14 days. We are in the country so we also had no water as our well needed elect. to work. With cows and chickens ,dogs and a cat we needed lots of water. the ponds were frozen so we were in a mess. Trees were down all over the roads and lines. It looked like a war zone. I worked 11pm-7am not a good driving time with all the lines and trees down. But God was there and got us through. That's when our creativeness shines through. Glad your home safe and your power is on.Mary

Those crystal pieces look like part of the crowns for pagents

Jan, I do know your pain. I haven't lost my husband, but I have lost my precious grandson. This poem stays on my laptop and I look at it often. I hope it comforts you too.

My life is but a weaving between my God and me,

I do not choose the colors, He worketh steadily.
Oftimes He weaveth sorrow, and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper, and I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent, and shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful in the skillful Weaver's hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

Lori Peercy 06-17-2012 09:51 AM

Fayzer that is one of the most beautiful things I have read! Each night I remind myself that God has a plan, even if I do not understand it and this explains it SO well. Thank you for sharing it with us.

dabbler312 06-17-2012 10:02 AM

That's a very beautiful poem Faye - thank you for sharing it with us and for the reminder that no matter how great or small our success or loss it is part of the master plan. I've always beleived that if the Lord brings you to it he will get you through it.

fayzer 06-17-2012 11:14 AM

Lori and dabbler, I am a firm believer in the master plan, however grief overwhelms me at times. That is when I read this poem and journal to my grandson. The journaling has helped me a lot. Sometimes I'm angry or just in despair. I can write how I feel and get it out of my heart.

Fayzer thanks for the poem, I saved a copy of it. I will be passing it onto my sister. She lost a 4yr old GD in a car accident. She has never been the same. She had the little girl probably more than the parents, so the loss was great. Thanks

Lori - what a frightful event. Glad that you and Marty have power again and that you did not get hurt with all the wind/debris.

As for San Jose - this weekend has been in the triple digit temperatures - about 103 where I am.

mizkyp 06-17-2012 03:08 PM

Lori, I am glad that both you and Marty are safe and sound.

Faye, I will keep a copy of the poem. It is beautifully written.

Catching up on reading the board...been a crazy month.

We used to have a woodpecker house hanging very high up on one of our trees. A number of critters lived there over the years. Several years ago I noticed something looking at at me when I walked the dogs in the yard. Finally figured out it was a little saw-whet owl. He didn't stay too long and I never saw him outside of the birdhouse, but he would stick his head out and watch us walk across the yard.

Juli 06-17-2012 07:42 PM

Has anyone ever been woken up in the middle of the night to a big long sonic boom, followed up this creepy ring kind of creepy long high pitch (almost like nails on the chalkboard) riiiiing that just kept ringing and is starting to make your ears do the same. That happened to me, in middle of the night. My cat heard too, she was laying on my bed, so she jumped up on my window pane to "investigate" it and see if she figure out what was going on. No one in my house heard it, except me and the cat. Luckily, I was not the only one in the city to hear it, there was several people around the city who heard it too. One guy said: I thought we were being invaded by a UFO! LOL!! It turns out what happened was a few miles from my house a powerline caught on fire in the middle of the night and it blew up the electrical wires, causing the boom and the ring.

The whole town lost electicity and mine just came on and cable was out also. I am back up and running now since 2:45 am meaning things were out here at my apt building since 4pm last night. It was a VERY long walk in the dark to my apartment I can tell you! Marty got her electric back at 7:15pm! You would think that they would get electric back to the elderly and disabled first! Oh well. Main thing is that I am safe and back online!

I actually did write a cookbook. Meatleass Meals for Lent Made Easy. Not very exciting ...

mdall 06-18-2012 06:37 AM

I must admit, I like most of the people who participate in the swaps here on the board are looking for unique gifts for the swaps. Well, I have to say that the one where Onalee sent her pal a tiny jar full of genuine Idaho dust is very cute and unusual. Wish I would have thought of it. I may just have to steal that idea for the next swap. Just wait until winter and maybe I can figure out how to send snow from here.LOL

buslady 06-18-2012 06:57 AM

I have my SP pkg ready for mailing, but no room on the scooter to bring all in. It was one of those mornings where we had to move fast. DH needed the car to go rescue son's truck, I jumped on the scooter with little compartment for hauling. Will mail it tomorrow. Got my SP pkg Saturday, it was GREAT!! Pictures and sender tomorrow, as well. Tomorrow WILL be better!!!! I am loving the pictures, everyone is getting/giving such wonderful surprises!! I so enjoy the swap. Wasn't able to get on to read and post, the board was working really funky all weekend. That or my phone. Took FOREVER to load a page. Regular computer was doing that on Friday, but not as bad as the phone. Not complaining, just stating. LOL I was way behind in reading. Couple of times, thought "I'll comment on that", but by the time I got done reading (between working, what a pain) I cannot remember all the stuff I was going to comment on. Sooooooo..... Good wishes to everyone on the board. Take care, and keep up the good work on all the sewing, etc. This is so much fun, and I love all the people I am getting to know on the board. You raise my spirits every time!
