Create4paws -- I hope I get some of your blocks -- those are so pretty!!
Here's a pic of my blocks that I made so far....Still need to receive the swap blocks and add a few more. It's so busy looking. I'm a very symmetrical thinking person so that's why I thought about adding sashings between the blocks. Dragonfly Nana said either all black or white sashings. What are you planning to do with your blocks? I'm really creatively challenged! haha stitch124 |

Stitch124 - have you tried laying out your blocks with the darkest black in the same position on each block? That might help tone down the busyness a bit. It will change the secondary pattern, but you might like it better that way. Also when you have more blocks to work with you may find different combinations that "feel better".

Hi Mom--- thanks for the suggestion and Love the blocks you sent. I'll do the switcharoo on the blocks tonight and take another pic to post and get opinions again. Do we know when the return blocks will be going into the mail?

I checked my tracking number and you should have them today when you get home. I am praying that the post office is correct. They are in California at this time.

Ok - so I took a new pic of the quilt so far but moved the blocks as suggested. Thinking that black sashings and borders and quilting with variegated thead would look good on this. What do you think?

Stitch124, I like that lots better than the first layout! You could remove a row, then layout the blocks on your wall with space between them in order to get an idea how you will like a border.

When I want to audition a potential sashing I lay out the sashing fabric and then set the blocks on top at the approximate distance apart they would be with the sashing. Sometimes I change it several times, others it is just right the first time. |
Jane - have you received my package, the post office says it was delivered. Just making sure.
I am ready to get the blocks back to put them together. I am thinking of using black for sashing around the blocks, just an 1-2 inches around them. I am thinking this will make the blocks pop nicely. Off to work on the batiks swap now. |

I received a very good question on another thread re: '. . are the future swaps going to be with the same D4P pattern.'
I have ideas for ~~ 4 or 5 more color combo/themes for the D4P as long as there is interest in continuing with this particular block. I've also been thinking about doing another quilt block altogether; was thinking we could maybe choose something from Bonnie Hunter's free quilt patterns. Or maybe do a swap with the Bento Box? I found a pattern onlline - really cool w/ modified instructions. I have some other ideas too. It really depends on what everyone else wants to do. Let me know your ideas on this. I'm game! Jane |
Doesn't matter to me Jane, I would like to know the pattern for the next couple of months. I can start working on them as time permits and have them done.

I enjoyed doing the disappearing 4-patch, but would be willing to try different blocks patterns. I would like to try anything Bonnie hunter does. Unsure what the Bento box pattern looks like, will have to research that pattern. I would like to have a few months heads up to be able to have time to search my scraps or buy new fabric. On whatever blocks you choose. Is that doable? Anyway, I'm enjoying doing all of the swaps I've been involved swapping. Thank-you for conducting this swap. Happy sewing!!!!

Already?? How great is that...you have been a very busy lady Jane. Started working on the 30's from last month today. Did side swap so have to sew about 36 more blocks together. They are sewn, and cut and turned, now just need to resew and chain stitch and keep feeding them through the machine. Think I will have enough for a queen size quilt even without the sashing around each one. Should be interesting..tomorrow is another day to sew and sew and sew....Thank you all for the beautiful blocks, going to be a very different style quilt for me.

Hi Jane - just wondering about the return packs you sent this week. I kept my postal receipt when I bought postage to ship my blocks out to you along with the postage for the return package back to me. Thought I'd track the return package and the USPS.com tracking website doesn't show that the return envelope has been entered into the system to come back to me. Just curious about the date the return packages were put into the mail. Could be that they haven't processed it yet. Just checking.
Also, attached is a pic of my b/w/brights blocks...new layout. I like it but it because I can visualize the white sashings between the blocks. Just seems like something is missing, (besides a lot more blocks! haha). Does anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about? Maybe putting some bright cornerstones or a piano key or scalloped border. Just not sure what it 'needs.' |

Yea!! my blocks made it home with out taking a detour :). They are going to make a awesome quilt. Thank you all for all your hard work.

Hopefully mine will arrive on Saturday. We have been snowed in for two days (Imagine that - snowed in in Virginia Beach) We got around 8" overnight on Tuesday which shut us down-Mayor declared State of Emergency so the idiots would stay off the roads so they could get them plowed/salt/sand.
We are still snow covered but main roads are clear and we are back to "ops normal" as they say. |
Haven't gotten mine yet either, maybe tomorrow. Just got the 30's blocks all sew today and ready for the final ironing and then on the table to quilt. Will have to wait for that for a little bit, have a RR swap here that I am working on . I am the final border so need to get it done so "lady" can get her quilt back!

So glad you're happy with the swap. If it's possible for something to be crazy insane and fun at the same time then that's what this is for me. I get the joy and pleasure of seeing everyone's quilt blocks then I get to 'play' with them - - - almost like a card game and rearrange everything. I also try to make everything as balanced and equitable as possible which is sometimes a real challenge but still fun.
The best part is having such a great group of swappers! You gals are really terrific and I'm so glad to have you in these swaps. Thank you! Jane |

Mine arrived today also. Didn't have my name on the blocks either, I had already sent them before Jane asked for that. Put them on the design wall and if you got the 6 on the bottom row they were from me. Thanks all for sewing my "new" quilt for me. Have the 30's one ready to quilt , (and it may be awhile) but will show you how it turned out if I find the pic.
