NEW SWAP! Disappearing Four Patch quilt blocks!
 

Welcome all to our MONTHLY DISAPPEARING FOUR PATCH swap. I hope everyone has fun and enjoys themselves so everyone will be happy with their blocks.

Here’s how it works: we will all be making 8 ½” unfinished D4P quilt blocks in a different theme each month. One set equals 6 D4P blocks. You may make as many as 6 sets of 6 blocks each which would be thirty-six (36) D4P blocks. Wow! That’s a lot of quilt blocks. Imagine how cool that quilt will be??? I know! Right??? If you are making one set, you may either make all the blocks using the same theme fabric or you may make each block using a different theme fabric. If you are making more than one set (up to 6 sets), please use a different theme fabric in each set.

The theme for DECEMBER is black/white and white/black prints and bright colors that 'read' as a solid. Please use any combination of red, yellow, blue, orange, green or purple along with the b/w and w/b prints to make your four patch blocks. Please see the picture.

Please use 100% cotton, quilt quality fabric to make your quilt blocks. Please PM me by the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] of each month to sign up. Please provide:

· QB screen name
· Real name
· Number of sets you are making/sending
· Email address
· Phone number

After I have received all of your information I will add you to the list of swappers and PM you a message with mailing information. BE SURE to include the USPS package, filled out with your mailing information, in your package to me. Set(s) of D4P quilt blocks will be due by the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] of the next month.

Mailing: please put blocks in a large ziploc baggie along with your name and address on/in the bag. This will help protect your blocks in case your package is damaged. Please purchase a USPS Priority Mail® Padded Flat Rate Envelope (9 ½” x 12 ½”) for $5.95 and fill out your name/address etc. This will be your return envelope so be sure to put this in your package as well!

Sew glad to see all the excitement! Thanks ladies. I'll start and post an interest list. Isn't it funny that what appeals to one quilter doesn't necessarily appeal to another. We all have such different taste when it comes to fabrics and colors, right? One never knows what will get lots of interest and what might be a flop.

D4P question: Are there restrictions on the size of the cuts in the 4P to make the D4P?

This sounds like a fun activity and will make a beautiful quilt.

Yes. We are making 8 1/2" unfinished quilt blocks starting with 5 inch squares in the chosen theme/color each month. I decided to do it this way so our quilt blocks will all 'play well' together.

I have plans in future swaps to 'tweak' things a bit. For now, we're making the 8 1/2" unfinished block.

Thanks jclinganrey .... when I re-read the blog, I saw that the cuts were 1" from the middle seam .... makes sense to me now. Duh! light bulb came on! This sounds like a fun swap and I want to play!

Can I make a suggestion.......how about adding the month in the title for which month the swap is for. Since it is middle to middle......could include Dec/Jan.

Just a suggestion....would make it easier to find the one we are following.

Still looking at at the directions and thinking. The tutorial in the instructions shows using only 2 fabrics for the 4-patch but in the sample quilt all four squares for the 4-patch are different fabrics. Will it matter to other swappers which example is used?
or am I putting too much thought into these blocks?

The link is for instruction purposes only as there may be someone who has never made a D4P. Each month we will have a different theme so while the basic instructions will be the same, the colors, etc. will change.

For December, there is a lot more room for 'playing'. Please use one black/white square, one white/black square and two different bright colors that 'read' as solid. They can be any combination, by the way.

So, you are absolutely right. ". . . all four squares for the 4-patch are different fabrics." Very good observation on your part.

I just realized I didn't answer your question! So sorry. Yes, please make your cuts ONE INCH from each side of the center seam. Turn and repeat as per the instructions in the link.

In future swaps, I might make some changes for a given month. We'll see. . . I also have some really fun modifications planned for future months. (I have to keep you gals curious, right??) Never a dull moment!

I forgot to put BRIGHT in the original instruction page for December. Please use any combination of brights in: red/yellow/blue/orange/green/purple. I just don't want there to be any confusion!

Colour me confused. The instructions say to sign up by the 20th, which was last Wednesday. Is this swap still open?

Belfrybat - I think this sign up is by Dec 20th with shipping of completed blocks by Jan 20th

Sorry for the confusion. In future postings I will include the month to avoid confusion (learning curve here). The November swap is closed but the December swap - black/white/brights is open.

I am in for 6 sets. I will start working on them after i finish up other committments.

I'd like to do this, but I'll wait until after the holidays! We're doing a bit of traveling and organizing this is mind boggling. See you in January. I like this D4p. will have to use some of my 6" squares for this!

Booklady - we'll be happy to have you jump in then. Each month is a different theme so, while it's kind of the same, it's always different. I'm going to be throwing in some fun modifications along the way too, to keep things interesting.

Just a quick note: while each square in your 4 patch will be different (1 b/w, 1 w/b, 1 bright, 1 different bright) if you are making more than one set, please be sure that all 6 blocks in one set are the same and that your 2nd (or 3rd or 4th, etc. are each different).

Mark your calendars. Quilt blocks are due on or before JANUARY 20th 2014. Can't wait to see all your fabulous quilt blocks!

Great blocks Jaba! Thanks for sharing .... I'm getting the idea how this works with your help. I've been collecting black and white fabrics, now to dig through my stash for some colors.

Batiks! Have you put me down for the swap Jane?

Mine are not coming out like this when I sew them. they look nice(pretty) but not like tis.

But they do look like these.

Batiks! I love Batiks and I have a lot of it. But I can always buy more.
But Pink and Red with Valentine fabric would be really cool too.

Batiks are awesome! Would we do white with them too?

Batiks would be my vote also
I would suggest black with batiks as it tends to make the colors really pop
