Cindy, you're moving the little 4 patch in the middle. You don't move that one at all, move it the way it is in your first pic and you should be okay. The only pieces you move are the 4 "thin" strips and just turn them. Maybe go to the older thread and look at the pics.

Here's an example and just notice how the colors go and you'll see the differenceSee how the dk. and the lights stay together on the same side and the darks do too

I was following the tutorial....i just went back and looked at it again, her whole block in the pictures are rotated, so it does get confusing.

Ok I am glad I hadn't sewn it together yet. I put the center back in the starting position. Now I will sew them and try again.

Thanks jaba

jaba 12-29-2013 06:07 PM

You're welcome, hope it helped you.

Yes now it makes more sense.

Sorry.......You really did make me smile and giggle though, just couldn't help it. I hate ripping those seams so bad...it's my worst nightmare from h---!! But you did give me the laugh I needed today so thank you even if it will be a nightmare for you too! Happy Happy New Year

I don't know if I would rip them out if I had enough fabric to remake them. i would use them for another quilt or add to what you get back.

That is what I am going to do with the first one I made.

mom-6 12-29-2013 07:07 PM

Welcome to the club! I think I was one of the first to have to redo. I tried to make it have all the fabrics in each row. 😃

to be honest, I laughed too. Can't believe I didn't see it before I posted the picture.

jaba 12-30-2013 04:50 PM

To be real honest Paula, I can stare at a quilt or probably anything forever and never see the error, but if I take a pic of it and upload to the computer and look at it, OMG it stick's out like a sore thumb! Had a lady tell me that one time and didn't quite believe her, tried it and low and behold.....you know the rest of the story :)

Your blocks are fine. No ripping or re-doing necessary. Hope you read this in time.

Mom-6, those are gorgeous. Great job

Thanks Jane, but they are backward for the way the request is for this swap.!

Starting on my sets today.

happylab 01-03-2014 07:41 PM

Will start sewing my 4-patches tomorrow. Then next break will start the cutting of the blocks and re-sewing of the blocks. Bye happy sewing.

createfourpaws 01-03-2014 08:45 PM

I have my 4 patches sewn together, now to cut them apart and sew them back together. 1st set is cut apart and ready to be sewn. Now the other 5 sets to cut apart

jclinganrey 01-04-2014 02:20 PM

I have a general question (it's a multi-part question): would you prefer the quilt blocks stay the same size from month to month? Would you rather the February/Valentines block be 8 1/2"?

Thanks!

Jane

Dragonfly Nana 01-04-2014 03:20 PM

I like the idea of varying the size - it will add another "difference" to the finished quilts.

l also like varying sizes. Say for the valentine blocks one could make a wall hanging or a nice table cover.

Nelco 01-04-2014 05:36 PM

wanted to say that I have the same black/ white (Left corner) and I will also be using it. (How funny)
TE=createfourpaws;6480525]Help!!! Not sure I put it back together once I cut them apart and sewed them. First block is pre cut, then sewn back together

want input before I cut anymore apart.

Thank for the help.
Pattia 01-05-2014 08:56 AM

ack, after getting out my "brights" I realized that a trip to the not so LQS will be in order. 2 of my brights I thought I could use are a touch too pastel bright. And one is too dark I feel. and one is almost a duplicate lime green.
oh well, it could be worse, any excuse to go to the fabric store. lol

Pattia 01-05-2014 09:00 AM

Hi Nelda, if you look at the ones posted on the first page, they are arranged differently than yours. all the colour should be in the same quadrant. I don't know how you switched them. but it looks to me very different than the ones posted. Maybe a more experienced quilter can help. You started out ok and cut ok, Just the arrangement looks different. hope someone can help

Nelda your middle strips need to be changed, the black and red to the bottom and the blue and white to the top. Think when you cut you just put them it the wrong place but the cutting is right, just wrong placement.

I have my blocks cut out. Now to se what a one eyed monster can accomplish. I don't get my glasses for my left eye until the end of January, so for now I see double and distorted at times. At least it is clear. Hopefully in March they will replace the cornea in the right eye.

Thanks, Jaba. I could see that it needs to be tweaked but couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Hope her answer helps you, Nelda.

Now I am really confused. You have a d4p for end of January sign-up as batik and solid black. You also have valentine d4p with a twist sign-up for January 30th. Do we just pick which one we would like to do or do we do both...if we sign up. Thanks

1 down and 11 more to go. I found out my depth perception is way off. So fun threading the sewing machine needle. LOL Slow and easy for this grasshopper!

Looks like we are all getting out blocks finished. Here are my sets - made correctly this time.

The previous sets I made will now serve as a border round for top made from a previous swap that was also Black/White/Bright, though all different blocks.

jaba 01-05-2014 06:43 PM

Perfect Paula, they look awesome, like your colors!! Especially those purple ones, imagine that??

Stitch124 01-06-2014 07:04 AM

Ok! while watching Downton Abby last night I made the two sets of 4 patch blocks for the D4P swap for December. I chain-pieced the squares which made the blocks come together so fast. Now I have to make the cuts and sew up the blocks to finish. I guess this is the slow part of the process.

Does anyone have any suggestions that would speed up this part of the block-making process? If there's no way to speed it up then, I'll just plug along. Only making 2 sets so it's not a huge amount of time, but I timed myself and including sewing the 4 patches together, it took about 15 mins to cut/sew/press each D4P block.

Has anyone timed yourself to see how long it takes to make one block? Thinking I'm just a slow block maker....

Any advice for a faster process would be appreciated.

Julie

Also, I on the 1930's Swap, I followed a D4P tutorial by MSQC. Does following that tutorial produce the same block as the tutorial on this swap? On the MSQC tutorial, the larger outer blocks are flip-flopped across, and the small middle square is rotated by one turn to the left. The narrow strips are never moved.
This is different than the tutorial for this swap which says to just flip the narrow strips.

Just curious.
