Count me in again. Sorry to hear that you get signups that don't produce. I enjoy making wall hangings, especially when I'm not limited on size.

I think some people forget they signed up. And some just run out of time. Some have life interfere. As long as we have enough interest I am more than willing to keep this swap going.

Glad to have you join in again Jeanne

Likethedog 11-01-2014 08:48 PM

I plan to participate and this time, I WILL let you know I'm ready to mail! Thanks for hosting the swap.

jeanne49 11-01-2014 08:55 PM

I'm going to try and recruit some of the new members. Just today I welcomed a new member from NC and told about checking out this swap. What's great is that we have several months to get something together. I think maybe since this one is due well after the holidays you might see a better turnout. Summer coming to an end, school starting and then 3 holidays and we all know how much time Christmas takes up in our lives this last swap might have been put aside by many and just forgotten about. I noticed that there were hardly any posting of progression pics on this last swap, and I was guilty of that. So I guess we just have to keep the thread active so that everyone sees it on a daily basis.

Rhonda 11-01-2014 09:14 PM

I've been doing this swap for a couple of years now. This is the 8th one. The first one was July to Oct 2012.
I did this because I know life gets in the way and that is why I thought 4 mos would be a good time frame. I'd appreciate any help in getting it seen. Several of our players in this swap have been loyal and joined in most of them or have been in other swaps I've done. We always get a few new people every time and several of our regulars. I appreciate everyone who joins in and makes this a good swap!!

Hope we have a good turn out!

ube quilting 11-02-2014 04:34 AM

Hi everyone. Count me in for another WH. I understand how time can so easily get away from us and we give up stuff for what ever reason things happen.

One thing doing the swap has taught me is to stay committed to the project, any project, I am working on. I want to start trying new techniques and these little WHs is the perfect place to be a little creative.

Not having any restrictions on what we make is so much fun for our more creative side. Seeing and sharing what we design is like eating icing for dinner, all good stuff!

Now I have to do some research on what my next project will be:D.

Thanks R for hosting another WHS. I always enjoy the banter and seeing progress of what we are working on.
peace to all

Rhonda 11-02-2014 09:15 AM

Thanks Ube for your kind support. I so enjoy having such wonderful swappers. We do have several who keep the converstions going. 4 months is a long time to keep a converstion going all the time. but I am blessed to have swappers who post pictures from time to time and help keep this thread seen.

I actually sent out addresses this time and didn't make any blunders!! Yeah me! LOL last time I screwed up a couple because of allergy problems I had forgotten to check on and had to tell swappers I had to change their receivers after I sent out addresses. You would think after doing this so long I'd have it down pat but oh no I still find a way to mess it up LOL Keeps it interesting I guess LOL

skaduzy 11-02-2014 12:17 PM

I'm going to participate in this swap again. It's my favorite and by putting in this comment I know I will get notified when someone posts. (That way I won't forget....;)) You do a great job Rhonda.

Bilben 11-02-2014 07:44 PM

I'm determined to have something ready to swap in February. I planned on swapping in the last two swaps and now have two UFOs, lol, so I hope I can complete at least one of them by February!

ube quilting 11-05-2014 02:17 PM

Good to hear from you again Bilben. Glad to see you are joining again!

Rhonda 11-06-2014 11:18 PM

For anyone thinking of jumping in just remember you don't have to commit to anything you just have to have a wall hanging ready by the last day of Feb. No pressure at all. Just have fun sharing your progress and ideas and pics!!

All you have to do is make a wall hanging of your liking. You have 4 months to make it.
At the end of the time You notify Rhonda that you have a wall hanging ready to exchange and she will put your name on the exchange list. On the last day she will send us a name of another person and you will mail your wall hanging to that person. Some one else will mail one to you.

We never know what we are going to get which is the surprise.

Anoka Quilter 11-12-2014 04:10 PM

I am in again. This will be my third swap and I have truly enjoyed doing the first two and have received beautiful wall hangings that I truly enjoy.

Rennie 11-12-2014 05:34 PM

I would like to jump in, too. I already have an idea on what I want to do. I have read the last swap thread - sounds like so much fun.

jeanne49 11-12-2014 05:48 PM

Looks like a lot more are in this round this time. I really enjoy this swap, mostly because there is actually no pressure, no theme and anything goes like in size and decoration. I saw something on The Quilt Show that I thought I might try this time.

Rhonda 11-12-2014 06:50 PM

Hmmmm I love Valentines and Hearts so I may have to join in this time!

I'm happy to see new faces this time!! Hope to have a great list when it comes time to mail!

jaba 11-13-2014 08:07 AM

I may have to think about a St. Paddy's Day or Easter wall hanging, Valentine's will be over Rhonda :(

Anoka Quilter 11-14-2014 09:05 AM

I have to agree with Jeanne, this is also one of the reasons I love this swap.

Can we do mini's as wall hangings? I am in a mini club at my LQS and the patterns are a lot of fun.

I am almost 95% sure what I will make for next time. The pattern is out on my sewing table so when I get back into town from this trip on the 18th, I will have a 4 day weekend and will not be traveling again until the 3rd of December. I am looking forward to spending some time at home and catching up on some serious sewing.

Rhonda 11-14-2014 11:05 AM

Anoka the only limits I set were it has to be bigger than a mugrug and smaller than a lap quilt. so minis are fine as long as they are bigger than the average mugrug. most mugrugs are in the 6"-8" area.

I just don't want anyone to be receiving a 5" wall hanging and be disappointed.

Any thoughts ladies and gents on how you would feel about a mini wall hanging? I wouldn't have a problem with it if I got one. I'd enjoy it no matter the size.

ube quilting 11-14-2014 02:39 PM

I wouldn't mind it at all . I even have a few on my design wall that may work well for the swap. I'll post a few pics and see if they are likeable enough.

There is am mini swap on the QB but it has rules and partners specifics that sort of takes a little of the fun out of being creative. Maybe in the future I will get adventurous and participate in a few but I really do like the freedom of the no rules swap.

Bullock2us 11-15-2014 09:10 AM

I have a question- I am fairly new to quilting and not very good at binding yet and not confident enough in the way it looks yet. Do they have to have binding or can they have something else?

ube quilting 11-15-2014 04:56 PM

Hi Bulllock2us, You can do anything you want. There is a method called pillow casing that has no binding and you could do a four step binding where each side id sewn on separately and the ends are tucked in. You can fold the backing to the front for a nice finish too.

Be creative as you want. Here is a little tutorial posted from the last swap to help with binding and it really helped me. Maybe you will find it useful too.

Hope you join us.

Bullock2us 11-15-2014 08:30 PM

Thanks ube quilting. Will have to try that. That is a great website also!

Anoka Quilter 11-15-2014 09:19 PM

I did that with the binding for the WH that I just completed and it does make a difference.

jeanne49 11-15-2014 09:46 PM

I wouldn't mind if I received a mini, but I don't know about making one. I'm not too good a handling really small pieces.

As for the "pillowcase" method, I use it on my mug rugs. I started making MRs using regular binding, but then decided that the pillowcase method was more practical.

Hi all. This weekend was perfect for searching for an idea to use in the swap. Some practicing is in order for the success of the plan.

This is my first time trying GFG (Grandmothers Flower Garden) I want to start using the WHS to try new things and I have never done a GFG before. It will by a nice size to practice learning. Don't worry about the quality of this one. If it doesn't look good I won't be sending it to any one. I started early so I more chances to get it right or make something different.:D

Here is the fabric I want to use:

There is another fabric if this one doesn't finish to my liking and that one is a secret.

Fussy cut the pieces:

Here are four:

That is the start. Now I have to sew them together so they look good!
Make your week a good one.

Kassaundra 11-16-2014 02:16 PM

So beautiful!!!!

Rhonda 11-16-2014 03:15 PM

wow never thought about doing a kaleidoscope effect with a GFG. those are outstanding ube! Can't wait to see how it comes out!

ube quilting 11-17-2014 02:35 AM

Hi R., The idea came from your Dresden Plate tutorial.:D I have done Dresdens' and wanted to do something out of my norm' by using hand work so just changed it up a bit. Thanks for the original idea.
peace

Anoka Quilter 11-17-2014 07:59 AM

Ube, those are beautiful. Cannot wait to see the finished project.

Rhonda 11-17-2014 11:16 AM

You're welcome ube. I picked up the dresden ks somewhere when I first started quilting 30 years ago. Don't remember where I saw it. There are a few books on the market on how to make them but I didn't think they looked to easy to do the way it was presented. From what I've seen the Dresden Kaleidoscope isn't really out there much for quilters to learn. It isn't main streamed like the Stack and Whack has been.

skaduzy 11-17-2014 05:36 PM

Those are beautiful!!!!!

Those are just so wow ube! I can't get over how they come out in the kaleidoscopes. the fabric design you used would never have occurred to me. I tend toward flowery leafy prints. I've been using my dks for Christmas ornaments. I'm making them about 4". these would make neat Christmas ornaments if they weren't too large. or you could make a Christmas wreath with them

CarolinePaj 11-18-2014 03:29 PM

Hi Guys,

I am going to take part in this one for the first time....... just trying to create a hanging in my mind....... but will enjoy this one!

Hugs
