I am waiting on a surgery date so I better get going on this wall hanging. I am not sure how long recovery was but a friend, who went through something similar, already gave me the heads up I would not be permitted to do stairs for over 2 weeks and my studio is upstairs. I have something in mind. As for Holiday themes, it is good to remember not all of us do all Holidays or in the same way. As cute as Holiday quilts are, our family does not do Santa, Easter bunnies and Halloween.

Rumbols 11-29-2018 07:59 AM

Well, I got the wall hanging done and I am ready to ship. I did a spring type WH with flowers again. If you go to www.allpeoplequilt.com and look up Fiesta Flowers WH, you will see the pattern I used. Didn't use the same fabric colors and changed the background to all white. I sewed the background with some of the fancy stitching on my sewing machine to make it look like wall paper (something new for me) before appliqueing the flowers on. I used a batik FQ set and pieced the binding when done. Hope this is clear enough to get a picture of what the wall hanging looks like (can't post pics). Will pm our host and likely not be on the board for a few days or weeks depending on my doctor. I will be reading whenever I can, so good luck to everybody with their wall hangings. Everyone have a nice safe holiday next month.

Teen 11-29-2018 09:19 AM

Be well, Rumbols....hoping for a quick and restful recovery.... Hugs!

Anna....good luck with your surgery and recovery. let us know how you are doing...

Well this is our 20th swap and I promises some surprises

Here is a sneaky peek at something that may come your way sometime over the next 3 months

It may be a keychain or a magnet or the center of something bigger LOL Ignore the little black thread LOL

This is 3" x 3"

Ooooooo...so pretty and so tiny.....you are really good at mini's...geesh......and you are such a tease...:p

Rumbols 11-30-2018 05:46 PM

Rhonda, that does look so good and tiny. Can't wait to see what you make. I know you are very talented.
Thanks, Teen for your good wishes. they must of worked.
Well, I got the results of my nuclear testing today and everything is 98 per cent a-okay per the doctor. So no heart surgery needed at the moment. Nothing likje them telling you to prepare for a lay up and then retract it, LOL. Retesting in 6 months, yeah. Still have more tests next week for something else. This one is a little scarier. I have my fingers crossed.

Judith1005 11-30-2018 07:58 PM

Rumbols, that is surely great news. I am so happy for you.

Annaquilts, I will keep you in my prayers and hope you get done what you need to.

So glad you got a good report so far. Will pray for a good one with the next tests too.

Yes I am a miniaturist. I began my online quilt career here on this board in 2009. I have been called the Queen of Minis. (coined on this board LOL) You can see my stuff if you search my name. I have a lot of stuff on this board. I think there are around 200 tutorials including my EQ tutes. If you pay attention to the ads they show from time to time for the EBooks sold on here and 4 of those are mine. I wrote them in 2009.

So yes I only do small stuff. I rarely do anything larger than 18" at the very most and that was my doll quilts I swapped. Well I also do and teach my Dresden Kaleidoscopes also. You can search that if you want to see some.

So I have all kinds of things rolling around in my mind for these surprises!! So watch your mailbox in the near future!!

Rumbols.....Yea!! So happy to hear this news and all is well with you. What a wonderful Christmas present, yes? So happy for you!

Rhonda.... Awesome kaleidoscope dresdons. Something I haven't tried yet cuz it looks so intimidating. Well done!

amalia64 12-01-2018 12:49 PM

Those are so pretty Rhonda.. What size are they?

skaduzy 12-01-2018 06:19 PM

Rumbols, So glad you had some good news and hoping the next tests come out well, too.

Rhonda, your work is beautiful...love the kaleidoscopes! I don't know how you can do the Mini's. They are so little and cute. My fingers are too big, I guess. :D.

craftyjulz 12-02-2018 12:57 AM

Doing a kaleidoscope quilt is a big want of mine. I’ve had the perfect fabric set aside for it for years. I’m just hoping I can convince one of our LQS’s to do a class on it. I’d feel better that way being guided through at least the first one. I’ve been waiting so long though I may just get up the nerve & do it. They definitely seem intimidating like you said Teen.
Rhonda, I don’t know how you do those miniatures. Keeping those seems allowances so perfect for such a little thing would drive me nuts. I figure that you have to be spot on with minis.

WANNABEE 12-02-2018 05:08 AM

Connecting threads has a tutorial for the kaleidoscope. Look under free patterns.

Judith1005 12-02-2018 05:37 AM

Rhonda, your Kaleidoscope's are just darling! They have perfect placement.

Pretty and mini! I am dabbling in trying a smaller scale. I took a class that we did Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage quilt and I learned a lot about smaller scale blocks. I also bought some smaller rulers, cutting mat and cutter. Not necessary but helpfull. Can't wait to see my goody from Rhonda. So kind of you!

Rhonda 12-09-2018 08:00 PM

The dresden Kaleidoscopes are so easy. If you want to learn I'd be happy to show you. I send out a free template for the DKs.

I teach my own shortcut methods which make the minis easier to do. You can use the method for any size not just minis.

I have a lot of tutorials on this forum.

I am having some serious sewing machine frustration LOL My favorite brother decided to lock up on me. I have 4 other brothers but they were bought for my grandkids to use when here so they are more simple machines. I want to use a particular stitch on my Project Runway machine but it is locked up. I finally gave in and ordered another one on Ebay. I need this stitch to finish one of those goodies I will be sending out LOL

Annaquilts 12-09-2018 09:00 PM

In the Netherlands many people do mini quilts because the cost of fabric over there is even more prohibitive but I just like doing minis for the sake of doing small quilts. They are just so stinking cute.

PamelaOry 12-09-2018 09:15 PM

Hi! I’ve been thinking of joining this swap but am a little intimidated. What would you say is the skill level needed?

Hi! Welcome! Skill level varies but all are welcome. I really like this swap and would love for you to come and join us. Did you have a chance to read the information regarding the swap in the beginning of the thread?

PamelaOry 12-10-2018 09:47 AM

I did. I just have noticed from lurking on previous threads that the skill level seems higher. I would hate to disappoint someone.

PamelaOry 12-10-2018 10:28 AM

Ok! I’d like to give it a try. I’ve got some ideas of wall hangings I can explore. :)

Teen 12-10-2018 12:06 PM

Go for it, Pamela. I've seen your work...disappointment won't be an issue. Regardless, all are welcome and so glad you will join us.

ive been looking at the farm girl vintage and thinking about doing a four block or a barn block for my wall hanging. Also considering a wool flowers wall hanging that I started a few months ago but I’m having trouble with the hand stitching. I’m left handed and I just can’t seem to get the hang of a left handed blanket stitch. I’m thinking I’ll use my machine to do the blanket stitching. It’s pretty big, I’m hoping not too big...how big is a lap quilt anyway?

Rhonda 12-15-2018 10:56 AM

Pamela we love any and all skill levels. If it is made by you the skill level is not as important as something handmade. I have received small quilts that are simple and those that are more complicated. I treasure every one for the person who made it! It always amazes me that I can hold a small quilt or wall hanging in my hands and know it was in the makers hands not long ago. It is sort of like reaching out for a handshake or hug.

A lap quilt is just to say don't make it twin size. LOL I used to set a limit and there would always be someone who would say I can't send this one because it is 2" bigger than your limit. So when I started this swap in 2012 I wanted to stop those silly questions.

That's why there are no real rules. Anything goes. Size is up to you. just don't make it big enough to cover a whole wall LOL

I'd rather you have fun with it and enjoy the process rather than worry about it fitting some specific size or guidelines.

I'd love to have you join us and I hope you enjoy the swap!!

Just remember to send me your address and information and remember to let me know when you have a wall hanging ready to mail before the end of the last day in Feb.

Love your gray quilting. The contrast is well done! Love the quilting in the border.

If you want to be in the swap remember to send me a pm with your address information. Hope you have fun here! The ladies are always happy to help if you need anything. I'll be in off and on and check to see if anyone needs anything.

You are not commited if you sign up for this swap. the only list that counts is the ready to mail list in Feb. The sign up is more just for fun to see who is interested. In Feb whoever is done by the end of Feb will get an address to send their wall hanging to. So make sure you let me know in a pm when your WH is ready to mail.

Enjoy the journey!! Rhonda

PamelaOry 12-15-2018 07:53 PM

Beautiful! I love the way you did the quilting too.

Sign up List --

The sign up list is only for fun. It is just to see who is interested in playing!!

This list is not a committment. The only list that counts is the READY TO MAIL list at the end of the swap.

The sign up list is just to see who is interested

So here goes----

If you want to join in let me know. This is not a commitment. When you send me a pm telling me you are ready to mail that will be the commitment.

So if you don't get done in time you can just wait and use your wh for the next swap.
No stress no mess no fuss LOL just have lots of fun!

Don't stress! Just play and have lots of fun. The only rule is bigger than a mugrug and smaller than a lap quilt. So the sky is the limit on creativity!! Enjoy the process!!!

You may see a surprise from me in your mail in the coming weeks!! So make sure I have your correct address!!

Want to see some of my doll quilts I"ve made for the doll quilt swap in the past?

This one I almost didn't part with LOL It's of course my own design.
This is one of the biggest I've ever done. I believe it was 18" x 18"
It went to a swapper called Mountaingirl and this is a Bear's paw LOL

Rhonda...that is beautiful...and that's why I haven't joined in swaps before...I simply wasn't willing to give up some things. I've made a ton of stuff for charity, but that's different somehow. I don't think I would ever give up one of my mini quilts. As for wall hangings, I'll probably duplicate one that I'm keeping...that way I can let it go gracefully. How about this one?

Wonderful news...I have sold my home and will be moving end of January. So...packing up sewing room means I needed to decide which wall hanging I would be swapping and keep it out so I can ship in February. My stuff will be in storage until my home is built.....so here it is... These little coffee pots are 4"....tiny PP in those...

granky 12-20-2018 04:58 PM

Very Pretty!

Rumbols 12-20-2018 08:40 PM

Teen, congrats on your new house. Love your wall hanging.

Merry Christmas to all of my swappers!! Hope you have a wonderful time today. We had our dinner yesterday at my son's house. Enjoyed getting to see all of my grandkids and great grandkids. It's the one time of the year we can get everyone together. One grandson had to work but other wise everyone was there. I feel so blessed to have a big family. There are about 28 of us now with my kids and grandkids and spouses and great grands and mom and my husband and me.
