Welcome to Quilting in the New Year Swap – February 2011 - registration closed

Sign up deadline: February 7, 2011

This is a swap that would enable you to be paired up with another ‘Quilting Pal’ and swap a quilted item that each has made. It can be either machine or hand quilted. The Quilting Pals would know who each other is and can chat about their projects throughout the whole month. This would just be for February 2011. If things go well then we can ask for permission to carry it over for another month. You would be signing up for one month at a time.

Beginner quilters as well as experienced quilters are invited to join. Every attempt will be made to match you up with a quilter who is at the same level of experience. (If an experienced quilter would like to be matched with a beginner and to be his/her mentor, please let me know.)

If you are international, feel free to join!

If you are interested in joining, please send me a Private message with the following information.

Screen Name:
Real Name:
Address:
Level of Quilting Experience:
Can you mail international?
Size and type of project you’d be interested in doing (wall hanging, table topper, potholders, etc.):
Allergies:

This form will be given to your swap partners. Partners may choose to exchange additional information about such things as color preferences, specific type of project, etc. Partners are reminded that this is a swap. Please avoid issuing too many specifications as though you were placing an order with a commercial business. The elements of mystery and surprise are at least half the fun.

Partners will exchange their real names, email addresses and mailing addresses once both parties have completed their projects.

The cost limit on this is to be $10 (USA) excluding postage.

Sign up will close February 7, 2011. The names will be paired up by February 9, 2011. Partners are responsible for keeping in touch during the month to keep each other updated on the progress of the project.

All of the standard rules that apply to swaps apply. The rules were updated on 8 Dec 2010, so please make sure to check them before signing up.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

In addition:
Neither project will be sent out/exchanged until both are done. Partners will agree on a specific date on which each will put their package into the mail. Unless otherwise agreed by both partners, the projects should all be done and in the mail by March 9, 2011. Tracking information should be sent to the Coordinator.

If you'd like to check to see if you are signed up for this swap, go to:

LOL. You can use the word, you just aren't allowed to do it. LOL.

I have been in contact with my partner this month, Rehrensberger, and we are asking questions to see where we will go. I just checked my delivery confirmation and it says that my EQ7 had been delivered. Hopefull it will be in my mailbox when I get home. Have never used it before but might try to on this project. :)

How is everybody else doing? Getting responses to partners questions? Contacting partners?

Curious minds would like to know. :)

dream56 02-09-2011 03:39 PM

In contact with my partner - pennyj123 and I think we are doing paper pieced miniatures.
This is so much fun.

All decisions made - Let the sewing begin

Yep.....I made up my decision on what to make and it will be done by hand. :) I heard that my partner likes teal. A hard color to work with ...ok, more like hard to match sometimes...but I think I have it figured out.

Let the quilting begin. :)

dream56 02-16-2011 11:32 AM

Teal is such a pretty rich looking color.
All hand made - I take it the machine still isn't cooperating.

nope. I will take it in but the closet place I have to take it to is around 50 miles away. There might be a new one but have to check into it. That's ok though since I like to do hand work. it just won't have as much actual quilting done on it if I have to do it by hand.

I'll tell you more off mains here so that my partner can be surprised (hopefully pleasantly) when she gets it. :)

tealfalcon 02-16-2011 12:04 PM

I have been in contact with my partner also....Dotty....we are doing wallhangings. She likes bright colors. So that's what I picked for her

Now YOU have peaked MY interest. :) Glad that you like it. In case you haven't figure it out, Rehrensberger is my partner this time. She is so understanding about my sewing machine breaking down so this wall hanging...oops, I mean project...might be a little smaller than I normally would. I will get started on the.......

Nope, nope...gotta shut up now before she gets too many clues. :)

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing - kind of quiet out there lately.

Oh I could tell you a story about this project for February. LOL...
it goes from cutting the main fabric. Making mistakes and redoing it. Cut the other fabric 3 times (couldn't get the size I wanted), then found out that I marked the fabric wrong so had to erase the markings. Not a problem. All water solvent so no big thing. THEN noticed that the towel I used to get rid of a stubborn one had some color on it. OOPS!

Took the fabric and washed it and set it out to dry.

This morning I ironed it.
As I was ironing it, it dawned on me that I shouldn't have marked that fabric anyway. The actual fabric that I need to mark was sitting over in the corner of the room. THAT fabric I know needs to be prewashed so that is on the agenda tonight.

Adventures in Quilting!!!
<chuckling>

mim 02-21-2011 07:22 AM

I'm partnered with McQuilter (Sue) again. I'm almost finished with my Feb project. Just finishing the binding on a table runner that I really like -- I have one block left over that I will use to make one for myself. -- I'll post the back fabric when I take pix.

We leave Destin, FL on Sat morning and won't get to Olympia til the 10th or so of March so I will have to pass on March. I'll be busy making curtains and buying furniture for the new condo out there.

On the way west we will be visiting quilters that I have never actually seen but beeen friends with for over 10 years.

Mim

Mim sounds like a great trip - we will however miss you next month. Have a safe trip and have fun sewing for your new condo.

dream56 02-21-2011 02:37 PM

They are alittle more touchy in miniature.

Found out today that the design I was trying to do was way too detailed to do in a 3½" square. Some of the pieces were only 1/8" and had 4 pieces attached to it. Had to switch to an easier design but you will still love it. Needless to say the miniature part was all handpieced.
Hopefully the one you are doing should not be that small since it is a table topper.

pennyj123 02-22-2011 08:12 PM

Well the blocks are 3" square, the making of one block is pretty messy. LOL, but i am determined i will get it done, i just haven't had much time this week, what with work and sewing up curtains, and trying to get to my sons quilt basted while they aren't there. oh woe is me. :( LOL :) I love the stress. (not)!!!

3" Block is about the overall size of the block I was doing.
I hope you don't go crazy doing this. Remember this is suppose to be fun.

I agree with determination but what I was hoping to do was beyond (my world anyway) - one of the 1¼" blocks consisted of 7 pieces all with points and paper pieced. I hope to still use this design but in a different part of your project that is alittle bigger.

Have fun and take your time.

Hugs, Dee

pennyj123 02-22-2011 08:47 PM

I am having fun with it, i am facinated in how they turn out, being so small. we can only do our best at something new, you also have fun and don't get frustrated with it. I have to admit i have thrown one piece away cause it was to much to pull out and start again, they are only tiny pieces that we are working with. :)

So true - that they are only tiny pieces.
I think I found my solution - found a similar but easier block to use.

pennyj123 02-23-2011 01:25 PM
