I have found the block I like. going to make a sample to see how it comes out. thinking of getting enough blocks to make a quilt for my #1 granddaughter and her partner.

givio 12-16-2013 06:29 PM

Nelda, The 12 blocks from this boom should make a nice amount. You can sash them, set them on point, and make a good sized border and end up with quite a big top!

urgodschild2 12-18-2013 08:55 AM

Hello everyone, We have 10 people so far. We only need two more but we still have 6 weeks to go before we get going. I am excited about this. I went to Vegas yesterday with a friend. No not to gamble but to pick up the two most adorable puppies from someone coming in from Florida. My friend was getting them from a friend in Florida.
I took a picture with my phone and since my daughter moved out I don't have the wifi thingy Gonna have to get that as my icloud doesn't work. Sigh. Glad to be back home and oh darn JoAnn's has a 50% off coupon so of course I need to go buy batting. Whoooooooo hoooo. Off in my Santa sleigh. (My car is red)

givio 12-18-2013 09:54 AM

Yes, I noticed the batting was on sale at JoAnn's so I couldn't use the coupon.... then I saw that the batting on the roll (not pre-packaged) wasn't on sale, so I could use my coupon on that! :-) I always use those coupons, even if it's only for thread.

TheMamaHauser 12-18-2013 01:57 PM

I have all of my stuff packed up and ready to mail. Is it time to mail? Can I mail early?

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I am sending out background white fabric and asking everyone to add red and blue (patriotic, Americana, or something similar) and make pinwheels. I did a sheet with 4 different (easy) pinwheel designs as suggestions but I'm open to ANY pinwheel design. I want to have a variety and I'm not set on any one design in particular.

givio 12-19-2013 08:42 AM

I thought we had to wait until we had 12 people joining in before we were going to begin... I didn't get my fabric yet! :-)

TheMamaHauser 12-19-2013 08:50 AM

I knew what I wanted and I've got bolts of white laying around. I look for simple tasks like cutting & stuffing envelopes to do while I've got the long-arm running... so I got it done while I was finishing my son's christmas present yesterday.

urgodschild2 12-19-2013 10:11 AM

I think we should wait until Feb. Sorry THeMamaHauser. The reason being that if people mail early, I may not be home due to being in Australia and we all know how sons can be about receiving packages. I may not find where he puts them. LOL. Well I went to JoAnn's and figured out if I bought the whole bolt of cotton that it was on sale but I had a 25% coupon on everything you buy and so I paid $80 for 25 yds over buying it by the yard at $18.00 with the 50% coupon. So I saved over $200 dollars. I love good sales like that. Have to do the math tho.

urgodschild2 12-21-2013 10:18 AM

Yikes...Christmas is just around the corner and I am still trying to get things done. (sigh) Back to work. Hope all of you are doing fine and getting ready for Feb. Picking out your pattern and such. LOL.

urgodschild2 12-22-2013 08:42 AM

Today I am off to celebrate a dear lady who turns 100 tomorrow. Yep she is a quilter and still quilts. Mary belongs to our guild and her family is having a lovely party at our town's community center. Her daughter is our Mayor. Should be fun.

givio 12-22-2013 09:03 AM

Wow! Maybe you will get some tips for longevity from her. :-)

urgodschild2 12-23-2013 09:31 AM

I think it is keep on quilting. LOL

urgodschild2 12-24-2013 08:14 AM

It is Christmas Eve and all across the board/ Some of us are busy finishing up those last minute quilts, while others are relaxing and enjoying themselves. Hope all of you have a lovely Merry Christmas.

givio 12-24-2013 10:56 AM

Yes, Merry Christmas to you too and to all! :-)

Nelco 12-24-2013 08:09 PM

Wishing everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and they get all the sewing supplies they asked for and all their quilts quilted with care.

Paperpieceme, looking forward to your wild print, and your board name is intriguing, so looking forward to the pattern you choose too!

I have found the print I want to send, I was online and I've ordered some of it!

urgodschild2 12-27-2013 09:54 AM

Yeah. I will be picking mine out real soon. I know exactly what material I want to use. Just got to pick a pattern.
Remember no paper piecing as not everyone is that skilled.

paperpieceme 12-27-2013 12:44 PM

oh you give me too much credit, i like paper piecing, it doesn't mean i am good at it :) . I know the pattern that i want to send, i just have to find instructions for it. its pretty easy. no paper piecing l ;)

buslady 12-27-2013 03:56 PM

Good to know. I am learning how to do paper piecing and so this year I am joining the Carol Doak's 50 Fabulous star group. We will see if I make it past the first star. LOL.

givio 12-28-2013 06:07 PM

Buslady, I'm in Ingham county, near the capitol. Have to you been to Country Stitches? It's a nice quilt shop.

paperpieceme 12-30-2013 06:47 PM

hey michiganders, I am just across the lake. sending some cold weather your way tomorrow. it was 0 degrees when i stopped off at the quilt shoppe today, beautiful sunny day for a drive though.

urgodschild2, i am doing that block a week with the 50 paper pieced stars too, we are supposed to post one next week, so i need to get myself in gear.

when i was at the shop today, i found some fabric i liked better not quite so wild, but really neat. i am going to cut tomorrow while the kids are still at grandmas.

looking forward to this swap, its my only swap right now, trying to keep it simple. i set the goal to finish up my UFOs this year. uff da, theres a lot of them.

givio 01-02-2014 10:14 PM

Paperpieceme, I haven't counted my UFOs... but I found out that when I join a swap I tend to get more sewing done than not. It seems that making a commitment to someone else works better for my sewing projects than trying to finish them alone. I become more enthused about sewing when I'm making something for someone else, and that enthusiasm spills over to some of my own projects.

I got the fabric I ordered online for this swap in the mail. :-) I plan to make a test block later this month.

have you filled your 12th spot????

paperpieceme 01-03-2014 06:40 AM

givio-
i made a list of my UFOs while I was cleaning my room,if you count fabric that i have in my mind for a certain project its craziness, but dh told me i should only count the ones where i have cut something. that narrows it down to 11. I have a wandering heart when it comes to quilting, I finish a top and move on to the next one.

i sew quite a bit because i sleep in my sewing room, poor dh snores so bad, when he started kicking in his sleep, i took over his office. i just dont finish a lot of quilts, but i can whip out a fancy pencil case in about an hour.

No I haven't filled our 12th spot. Would love to have you join. PM me. Whoo hoo this will be so great. I was going to post a request for anyone who knows anyone who might want to join us and now I won't have to. Oh wait I just did. LOL.

urgodschild2 01-03-2014 09:42 AM

I had 17 UFO's that were either in the making or I wanted to start. I have finished 2 and I am almost finished with two more. Yeah. The two that are almost finished are going with me to Australia. Gotta love having a time schedule to get one in gear and finish something. I go to a quilt class at my senior center and we are starting up again next week. Every month Lyn gives us a swap and we get a pattern for making a quilt with the swap blocks. So that is 5 quilts per semester. The she has a semester quilt that we get instructions every week and then to add to all that she gives us a year or 52 week quilt blocks. for the year. this year is it going to be Christmas. anyone can look at her quilts for our class and get the patterns free at lynbrown.com

givio 01-03-2014 08:46 PM

Thanks for the link. That was interesting and when I have more time I'll explore it some more.

urgodschild2 01-06-2014 08:29 AM

Here it is the 6th of January. I am preparing for my trip to Australia and getting to see my adorable grandkids. I look forward to Feb when we start. I hope all of you in the cold area are safe and ok. I know what it is like to get cold temps when you area is not use to that cold temps and wind chill. Stay inside and just sew.

ljdugas31 01-06-2014 03:16 PM

Safe trip and enjoy your grandkids, nothing like it!!!!

givio 01-06-2014 04:00 PM

Yep, it's the 3rd day of snow here, about mid-thigh now, not shovelling much because the college is closed, and the place I work at is closed and there's no reason to go out... Just about finished with a baby quilt top that I started when the snow started!

urgodschild2 01-09-2014 07:44 AM

I was very busy over the holidays. I finished my grandson's duvet cover. My daughter did not want quilts as she has no place to store them. Hmmmm store them?????? I thought we made them for people to use. Anyways she was ok with me making a duvet cover for their comforters. The older two were done last Aug. I just finished the youngest one. This is like one giagantic pillow case. The top is all quilt squares. LOL Got my daughter on that one. Then I made a large quilt for her mum-in-law. All chickens as she likes chickens. I had to have these two done for the trip to Australia. Then I made a baby quilt for my new grt. Niece. I made a quilt for me. I started this one in 2004. It has appliques cats on it and it is done in cat material. I will be hanging it above my bed. I also made two rag quilts that I am donating to our church to go to the Indian reservations in Arizona. So I have been a bit busy. But now that I have a few days left before I leave, I am going to get the material out for this swap and decided on a pattern.
For all my friends and quilters in the cold areas, put some more quilts on and stay warm. I won't mention what the weather is like here in Southern CA.

givio 01-10-2014 08:28 AM

I work with an American Indian. She is so happy to be away from the reservation. Thanks so much for donating quilts to go there. I'm sure from her stories that there are lots of people there who need a bright spot coming into their life.

urgodschild2 01-11-2014 07:56 AM

I am hoping to go there someday. Our church has a group that goes every month to bring supplies and things. Our knit group at the church makes hats, scarves, blankets, baby clothing, etc. They go to Arizona where they go to 4 different Indian reservations. I am part Cherokee as my Grt Grt grandma was one. But I have never lived on a reservation.

urgodschild2 01-11-2014 07:57 AM

We need one move person in our group so ask your friends and we will see what happens. LOL. Off to Australia tomorrow. Am I excited.......YEP. Grandkids here I come.
