Does anyone ever do one like this with fat Qtrs? I enjoyed the one I did but I did NOT like working with Fat 8's, no room for error lol
|
Short and Sweet, it's sounds ok to me, I'll go along with whatever the group wants. Would that be 4 yards of fabric for sending? Or would I have to buy 4 1/2 to get enough FQs for 12 in the group, but there is 13? I'm confused, do I count myself or not? :-)
urgodschild2, Have a safe trip!!!! Kiss your family lots while you are there! :-) |
Actually the F8 if it is cut 11 X 22 should be big enough for any of the patterns but you can send Fquarters too. Right now there is 11 people. That is counting yourself. We need one more person. If we don't get the 12 person then each of us would have to make two of our own so we will have to wait and then go with what the majority wants. I am ok with sending larger pieces of material. My next message will be from Australia. When I arrive the temps will 105. Oh my, I will pick up the kids from Bizi-i-kids and go home and drink lots of water. In fact the rest of the week looks like over 100 temps. Good grief.....They are having the opposite of the USA.......heat. Unusually hot.
|
105!!! Farenheit? Bah! Step out of the plane into instant oven... Please take care not to get heat stroke. My daughter-in-law was recently hospitalized for heat stroke/dehydration. She said it was no fun.
11 x 22 sounds good to me-- with my block pattern I think it will give room for cutting it a couple of times, but I'm a measure twice, cut once kind of person. I'm fine with going ahead with who we have and making 2 blocks myself. I've been so looking forward to it, I don't want to quit before we've tried it! :-) But there's another 2 weeks to wait, so maybe someone else will join too. |
Hope you still have a vacancy I just sent you a PM I am interesting in filling your last spot when I get you confirm that I'm in will start looking for pattern and material.
|
pbadder, urgodschild2 is the leader and she's going to Australia... she'll get back with you after the flight, I guess. :-)
|
Just heard from urgodschild2 and I am in now looking for material. Block I chose is www.quilterscache.com/A/AnniesChoiceBlock.html Please give input if this block is okay with everyone, otherwise I will look for a different one. Thanks looking forward to this one.

I think that design is great. I actually used it as an example in a project I presented in 2011 at a mathematics conference. The project/talk was about how you can take a simple design (HST) and create exponential # of designs with it depending on your grid (3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc) and the importance of translation, rotation, and reflection in quilting. It's one of my favorite designs to work with now.

Barb,
I am currently participating in Boom 11 as a first time member of the Slow and Easy Group. I signed up for that group to make sure I was giving myself time to complete my 16 blocks. All my blocks are due back to everyone in May. I am have completed 8 blocks already. I like the idea of getting a pattern to go with the fabric as part of the instructions to come with the fabric. It seems all others aspects of this Swap are the same. I like the decision to keep it to 12 participants. When is deadline for submitting F8,s ?. I would like to do this. Thank you for taking this on! Bee |

Welcome pat b. she is our 12 person. If any one else joins. Maybe we will end up with two groups. Who knows stayin cool in 108 yesterday heat
|
Look's like you are full this time. Maybe the next time. I did learn about the Quilter's Cache. This will be very helpful.
Thanks, Bee |
I would join but am worried about being able to do certain blocks.....
|
TheMamaHauser -- :-) that's an interesting note regarding a quilt block pattern. :-)
pbadder -- I like stars. I haven't tried that one before, looks fun! urgodschild2 -- 108F!! Oh! What a blessing someone invented air-conditioning units... I can't imagine how hard that is if a person had to work without one. Bee -- It's a very useful web site. I'm sure it gets a huge amount of users. |
Ha ha. Air conditioning? Not in my daughter's home. We have two small fans. Better to go to the malls or movies or museum to stay cool. Today the heat wave has broken and we have delightful. 70 degree temps. I am not melting after all.
|
Just a couple of weeks left to wait! Has every chosen their pattern and fabric? Is everyone ready? :-) Itching to get started...
|
I am soooooo ready!!!!! Picked my fabric and pattern.
|
i am ready to mail , ready to mail, ready to mail. !!! yipeee! while i wait i will keep up with my 50 paper pieced stars. oh goodness have i learned a ton. i wasnt really a paper piecer until i started this project.
|
Good morning fellow swappers!!! I picked out my pattern, need to go through my stash and pick the fabric to go with the block pattern. My goal will be having all of my squishes in envelopes and ready to mail by 1 Feb 2014, plus make a sample block and post.
I love everyone's fabric and patterns you have picked so far. I'm very excited about this swap. Happy sewing!!!!! habbylab |
Salutations All . . . just checking in. I feel good ju-ju from this group. I'm going on retreat this weekend in South Carolina: the Myrtle Beach Quilt Party - 3 glorious days of unabridged sewing ! ! ! ! No cooking, cleaning, laundry, work, or traffic jams ! ! ! ! I can't wait - barely containing my composure ! ! ! ! Upon my return, I will choose my pattern & fabric & share my results. . . seeya' next week . . . GP:D
|
oooh a sample block i love that idea. then i will have my 12th block done
|
I thought we were supposed to put our fabric for everyone in baggies, then our fearless leader would collect all the baggies intended to come to us and she would put them in one envelope to us. So, do I put my pattern info and fabric in an envelope instead of a baggie? Either works... lol I just want to conform to the standard, I guess!
Groovy Pieces, oh my gosh, lucky you! I hope we get a report about what you did there! |
Givio, you are right, I'm using the old rules where we put them in envelopes, I just figured we kept that part the same. Now I know. Thank-you for pointing that out to me. Happy sewing,
happylab, |
Okay let me see if I got this straight. We have 12 people in swap including me,. So I would cut 11 pieces that measure 11 x 22". Then I would put each piece cut in individual baggies with my real name, board name, and my address in each baggie, also include instructions as to what color fabric I would like them to use on the block I chose. Than I would put all 11 baggies in a big envelope and send to you with a list of names each baggy is to be sent to. Once you receive everyone's envelopes you will send each one everyone's fabric to work on.
|
Yep you have almost all the rules except one important one. You need to tell us what pattern you choose from quilter's cache or send the pattern to everyone. Yep they will come to me but because I am in Australia until Feb. 2, I don't want anyone to mail earlier because my son is collecting my mail and I fear where your envelopes will end up. (shhh He is not as organized as me) I love being here in Australia but I miss my sewing machine. Maybe someday when my Daughter and hubby buy a home with a grandma apartment, I will buy a machine to stay here. To bring one with me would be a waste as the electrical system is different and using one of the adaptors will burn out your machine.
|
I just thought of something. My list with all our names and emails is at home in California and I can't give you my address to send your envelope to until I return on Feb 2. UGGGGGGGG!!!! I was hoping to send it out the week before so that you could start sending them. I will PM all of you. LOL. There is always a solution if we think hard enough and wait for the brain cells to kick in.
|
ok I sent everyone (I hope) my home address via a PM. If you did not get one let me know. If you mail them out on the 1st, I will get them that first week in February. I will sort them and send them right back. Then if we all agree on 2 or 3 months, I will post the return dates. I am so looking forward to see the material and the patterns we all pick out and visualizing what the finish product will look like. Givio.....you can send your's earlier seeing that the travel time is longer for you.

Barb Thanks! Bee |
...I don't know what the count is either ?? but if Bee Beatty is thrilled to be in (don't like to disappoint someone who's thrilled...), it's ok with me if there is an extra! I can always find a use for an extra block, like making a pillow to match the quilt top! :-) Just a thought...

Betty is in. I don't have my list as it is sitting by my computer at home and so I am ok with an extra person. That would mean that you would not have to make one of your own up. LOL. either way works for me.
How about we have all the f8's to me by February 3. Does that fit all of your time schedules????? I can't wait to start. Barb |
Paperpieceme.......I love that pattern too.

How about we have all the f8's to me by February 3. Does that fit all of your time schedules????? I can't wait to start. Barb Thanks Barb for the PM confirmation. I will get my F8's cut today. Just so I am clear... I cut 12 F8's, I put each in a separate baggie with my Name (Carolyn Beatty) , my Board Name (Bee Beatty), my address, phone and e-mail, and the name of the intended recipient, I include in each baggie with the F8 a pattern choice from the Quilter's Cache (Pattern name or printed pattern will work), I enclose the 12 baggies in a priority mailing envelope with a return priority envelope with prepaid postage applied and mail all to Barb to arrive on or before February 3rd. Barb will sort all and mail each of the 12 participants their baggies. Questions: For example - Can all 12 patterns be different ....or the same, etc. any rule on this, I do not have the names of all the participants to prepare the baggies, do I need this? Looking really forward to this one! |
I put everything in the mail today. I did manila envelopes instead of baggies (less folds in the fabric).
I did not put any names on the envelopes in case our participants change. Please don't take it personally that I didn't address each one individually. Kelly |
Kelly, I don't think I'll put names on mine either, because... I don't know them! :-) I could look back through 100 posts to figure it out? :-) Might come up with some board names, but this is the first post that I noticed your name... Barb must know who, so I'm guessing she can send them out, and all's well that ends well.
Carolyn, I think the plan was that you pick a block pattern and we all make the same one for you. It's what makes this boom a little different than other ones... you get a quilt project coordinated by pattern rather than strictly by colors (although there is the coordination of your piece of fabric you send too). But not sure about that, because I've never done a boom before! :-))) Trisha |
Thanks ! I realized I do not have everyone's name, so I will send mine without the recipients name. I have no problem choosing a same block pattern to send everyone. Sounds like a plan. Off to look for a favorite block!
Everyone stay warm tonight! |
,ok here is my plan I will email my son to send me the list of names and see if it gets to me. Keep your fingers crossed.

Here is the list of who is in our group.
moonrise TheMamaHauser nelco buslady gaijin happylab ljdugas31 groovypieces jaba pbadder beebeatty urgodschild there are 13 of us so you do not have to make one of your own blocks unless you want too. So that means we will need to cut 12 pieces. I know that some of you have already mailed. So we will work it out somehow. |
Our list! This is fun! Hi, everyone! I'm looking forward to making a block for you! :-) Won't this be fun?
I put a note on my profile to say something about myself for introduction, if you'd like to read it. |
