received sauki1's first row today. Will get working on cutting out the 2x2 squarres.....

Sauki1 01-07-2013 01:32 PM

Vanogay,

Unfortunately, at least on my part, it was the first row. I have apologized to Girlscouts1 for my lateness that was unavoidable on my part. I suspect that the one Lv2Sew2011 received was also a row 1. Though I do not know that for sure. I think we're all on track now and everyone should hopefully be able to ship by 2.1.13. I'll be working on your row this weekend to ensure I make that date. :)

Hopefully, this helps you in understanding where we all are now :)

Reference the above postings (Sauki1 and Lv2Sew2011) were these first row or second. I'm ready to ship Row #2, but was holding on - now I'm confused.

First row for me from Girlscouts1 but will be second for top!

Vanogay 01-10-2013 02:51 PM

Yeah, I guess that's what I meant. Second row for specific quilt, perhaps first to you. Can get confusing - and I don't need any help with that - getting confused!

QuilterMomma 01-14-2013 10:41 AM

So no photos of these rows? I want to peak.

Sauki1 01-14-2013 01:13 PM

LOL, I just got mine done yesterday on Vanogay's top. I'll try and get a picture posted today or tomorrow. That is if she wants to see it ;)

Don't mind at all. Would love to see the quilt as it progresses. If that's the case, here's cuppy's rows -

Sauki1 01-14-2013 04:41 PM

Wow, how cute. I know I'm already gonna like the finished quilt!! Thanks Sauki1! Let me know when you are ready for me to mail your next package (the beachy scenes)

Lv2sew2011 01-17-2013 01:24 AM

I have made 3 stars and cannot get the points with out sewing on them, I even cut 4" squares instead of 3 7/8" squares I'm sewing at 1/4" seam allowance, just not liking it. What am I doing wrong...????

Vanogay 01-18-2013 01:29 PM

Boy, don't know - post a picture of what you're sewing, maybe that'll help.

QuilterMomma 01-18-2013 02:26 PM

Something I learned from Sally Collins is that when you are sewing those points be sure to sew a thread or two towards the outside of the point so you do not cut them off. Jan Krentz says the same thing. I don't have a block here at office to show you. If I think of it at home, will show you. Also, when you are done sewing, do you size them down with the diagonal of the ruler? Then just trim, another point when trimming from Jinny Beyer and the above, is that you set your ruler on top of square and be sure the line on ruler is inside the edge so you don't trim to small and you get an accurate cut and block in the end. These are simple little things that made a large difference in my piecing. Just some suggestions for you.

Here they are, I've ripped out until I'm sick of it...LOL I've use 12 1/2" Square Ruler to cut...only thing I can think of it's pattern from the book is to big, so I've even taken bigger seam and this is what I ended up with.

I've tried my best and this is as good as it's going to get! I'm running out of blue fabric...LOL Grilscouts1 let me know if you want me to add my row, I'm just not very good at stars...:(

Vanogay 01-19-2013 03:44 AM

Luv, looks like your sewing was okay - unless you really took a bigger seam (larger than 1/4"?) On one, looks like your ruler may have slipped and you cut the 1/4" off your square. Don't fret over this, try to learn from it (she says to the one who has tried repeatedly to get it right. Sorry.) I think together the stars look good - from my distance anyway. Think I'll just go away.

Sauki1 01-19-2013 04:31 AM

Luv,

Your row looks wonderful! I discovered this great tool for doing half square triangles and it allows me to get my center points perfect every time. I'm upstairs at the moment and don't remember the name but it sure works well :)

It's lovely and I'm sure she will appreciate your hard work in creating your row. :)

Lv2sew2011 01-19-2013 05:42 AM

No I'm coping the pattern from the book and it's not because it to small, it's way bigger than it should be...the dark blue square when I was done was 13" and I even took bigger seams...I think the pattern from the book is just too big.....

LOL
I'll get over it, I just get so frustrated when it don't come out right...I'm a Virgo and they are perfectionist...LOL
Donna

PS Thank you for the help!

Finish with my row and ready to mail when everyone else is....
Donna

Sauki1 01-21-2013 05:05 AM

February 1st is our deadline for this round ladies :) So, I would say if you haven't finished, now is the time. I should be mailing in the next few days to get to girlscouts1 timely. Vanogay, send away whenever you're ready :)

This is really getting fun. I got to try out something on my row I had never done before and I really liked it. So much so that I decided to make another quilt using applique for my MIL for her birthday in March. I'll keep my fingers crossed it looks as good as the picture :)

Vanogay 01-21-2013 07:23 AM

Mail closed today for holiday. I will mail your next row tomorrow and let you know for sure it went.

Sauki1 01-21-2013 04:08 PM

Great, thanks. I'll keep a look out for it :)

cuppy 01-22-2013 05:41 PM

Will mail out soon! Feb 1 . cuppy

Sauki1 02-08-2013 04:48 AM

Has everyone received their next row? I'm busily planning mine at the moment. I think I know what I want to do :) Also, I sent something to Lv2sew2011, did you receive it?

Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am with these rows. Makes it interesting to try and be creative with each one and maybe do new things.

Vanogay 02-09-2013 04:45 AM

No, still waiting, but do have other things that I can be doing before it gets here. I'll get with you when it arrives - got note it would be coming.

cuppy 02-10-2013 06:51 PM

I received row from Lv2sew2011 today blue and white stars... what a nice theme, this will be a wonderful blue and white quilt. I will have to come up with 5 stars...hmmmm. cuppy

Lv2sew2011 02-12-2013 09:05 PM

Unless it's in my mail box which I did not check today it snowed and I didn't want to go outside and take a chance of slipping and falling it's seems to be melting so I will check the box tomorrow...
Donna

Unless you are talking about the gray strips if that's what you are talking about yes I got them...But I have not received your row yet!

Yes, it was the grey strips that I sent you :) I think Girlscouts1 should be forwarding the row on to you. Have fun with it :D

Vanogay 02-13-2013 09:33 AM

Wow, Cuppy - insured for over $100. Think what the final finished quilt might be worth!! I need to check the PO and see what minimum insurance is for stuff like we're mailing. Not here as of today, but mail still hasn't run. I'll post when it does.

cuppy 02-14-2013 08:15 PM

It cost $2 and some change. to insure for $100.00 for $50 it was a dollar and some change so I went with $100 I want to make sure it is received. and not lost cuppy. Is everyone else gonna insure?

Sauki1 02-15-2013 04:02 AM

It would be a good idea. At least it could replace the fabric if lost. :)

Vanogay 02-15-2013 04:38 AM

Well, I got it, so no problems there. The post man did say that with the insured tracking, the delivery confirmation tracking was really unnecessary. Don't know that the DC is that expensive to really worry about it, but he mentioned it to me as he delivered it. Different post offices, different ideas about tracking, I guess. Will get working on this one real soon - looks like it should be fun.

Lv2sew2011 02-15-2013 05:30 PM

Would of been nice if the PO would of said something right! Now I know not to do both!
Donna

Lv2sew2011 02-15-2013 05:32 PM

I only insured for $50.00 since it was just two rows. But as it gets bigger I will insure for more...

Vanogay 02-16-2013 03:15 PM

I plan to insure, but agree with Luv2 that the smaller amount for two rows seems enough. As the quilt grows, I'll go up to the $100 - replacement of the fabrics, if nothing else. And of course, if insured, I'll check on need of delivery confirmation

QuilterMomma 02-21-2013 03:11 PM

Having fun yet? No photos of the rows. I want eye candy please....
