Hi ladies,
Wow, I am so excited to watch all the rows develop over the next several months.

Please send me your contact information by PM. Include your full name, mailing address, email address and a phone number. Please, do NOT put your contact information on this board. Only send it to me and other swappers by PM- this is for your protection.

If at any time, for any reason, you believe you will no longer be able to particpate, please let me know. Life happens, for the good and not-so- good, and we understand that. If you think you might hold up the group for some unseen reason, let us know and we will work out how to keep the rows moving and get back to you when timing is better. We have two months to complete each round.

A few things to know:
always send the row your make/complete to the person listed after you.

Mailing dates are:
1st Row – mail by Dec. 1st
Row 2 – Feb. 1st
Row 3 – April 1st
Row 4 – June. 1st
Row 5 – Aug. 1st

A few things to think about:

Correspondence - include with your starter row. This could be a piece paper, note card or anything you choose. Consider this your opportunity to express your preferences, such as colors, techniqes, and what not to do/use. Perhaps you prefer to join your rows when they come home to you - you would state that in your correspondence.

Labels - Send along a label with your starter row for each person to sign. This can be as simple or fancy as you want.

Sashings - Does anyone in the group have objections if any of the swappers wants to send along sashing to be used to join the rows together? It may affect the cost of shipping.

Mailing the rows - What is the preference of the group - do we mail according to the dates, or do we want to mail the rows as soon as they are finished?

What are we forgetting to address?
Suggestions?
Comments?

Shall we declare our themes now? I'll start a new thread titled 'Themes'. Add your name and your theme.

best,
d

Hi, my name is Charlottemarie, my theme is Sunbonnet Sue and her house.

charlottemarie 09-21-2012 09:02 AM

Looks like it is just you and me so far!

Whigrose 09-21-2012 09:12 AM

I just sent Krisb a PM. Hopefully we'll hear from her soon.

Will be sending one to mhobbs right away but don't have contact info for mistymarie

Krisb 09-23-2012 08:07 PM

I do have some questions, since I have never one either a row or a round robin before. Do I need to name my theme, or is it "evident" from the first row that I send? I don't want to put too many restrictions on what others can do, send Sashing along? I don't think I can pick my Sashing style or fabric until I see all the rows. My general theme is the beauty of nature (including people) however anyone chooses to interpret that, whether stylistically in blocks like wild goose chase, scenery panels, or appliqué --or anything else--songbirds, big birds in flight, mountains, lakes, trees. Anything that includes those elements. Or how we have made nature yet more beautiful. With pretty barns, old outhouses, barns, and sheds. A field under plow, ready to harvest or being harvester. Water in any of it's forms--waterfalls, lakes, rivers, clouds, ice. Or water from a hand pump. Or a tap.

Krisb 09-23-2012 08:10 PM

CharlotteMarie, do you have a particular version of Sunbonnet Sue that you particularly like? And is there a pattern available for Sue's house or do we pick our own?

charlottemarie 09-24-2012 08:03 AM

Hi Krisb, Any Sue you want to do is fine. I haven't done my houses yet, but it is because I can't decide on one thing. I just love both things and want to incorporate them into a quilt. As far as any specifics, I want a light blue background. It can be tone on tone or just plain light blue fabric. I have seen lots of both patterns on this board and the only thing I don't want is wonky. Plain houses and plain sues I guess. Sue can be scrappy and houses can be scrappy. Just colorful is what I want. Does that make sense?

Whigrose 09-26-2012 12:24 PM

Hi Krisb;
No one is required to name their theme - it more or less is for the sake of fun and to get everyone excited and start conversations among the group members.

I love how 'open-ended' you are about your possible theme. Makes me want to put my thinking cap on and start mulling over all the endless possibilities.

Still trying to connect with a couple of group members who seems to be missing. :-( Let's keep our fingers crossed they show up soon.

best,
d

charlottemarie 09-26-2012 03:09 PM

Krisb, I did not make any reason for wanting blue fabric. It is outdoors, that's what I want. Sue doing something outdoors at her house. Gardening, checking mail, sunbathing, walking dog, etc.

Whigrose 10-03-2012 04:48 AM

Tap, tap, tap. Hm, nobody's around? Are you all working on your first row?

best,
deb

Qbee 10-03-2012 03:54 PM

So....how are y'all coming along. Has everyone checked in?? If not, please PM me ASAP. Thanks!! :D

charlottemarie 10-03-2012 05:08 PM

I'm still around, but haven't started my row yet.

MistyMarie 10-05-2012 06:40 AM

I am not sure what I am going to do. I have many ideas. I am thinking about doing a floral bouquet theme. Not sure yet. I have lots of ideas running around. I loved the row robin I did with snowmen a few years ago, so I am thinking I would like to do somthing along those lines... but for my daughter, so whimsical, silly, and fun flowers. My mom painted "Magdalena's Flower Garden" on her wall in her bedroom and all sorts of daisies and fun flowers, so I am thinking that following that theme would be a blast. However, I might decide on something else. I still need to finish up two round robin quilts before I start this row.

Whigrose 10-05-2012 10:24 AM

Hey MistyMarie,
Good to hear from you!

We have time yet to work on our rows for sure and I'll be the first to step up and say I've changed my mind about my theme more times than there are days in a week. I'm pretty sure we aren't the only ones struggling with a theme.

best,
d

charlottemarie 10-05-2012 06:49 PM

Mistymarie, could you post a picture of your snowman quilt?

charlottemarie 10-07-2012 06:28 PM

Well, I went out and bought the background fabric for my row today. Didn't get to work on it though. Still working on a customers quilts. Should have them completed by the end of the week if all goes well and I can start my rows.

mhobbs 10-09-2012 05:34 AM

Hey Lady,
Just found the thread. I think I'm in the groove now.

Thanks so much.
My email address is [email protected]

That's a good way to contact me if the board messages fail.

mhobbs 10-09-2012 05:43 AM

Maria's theme- Vibrant color with lots of movement with base fabric in Kaffe Fassett. I've only done one Kaffe quilt and it was a mysters. Had no idea how it would turn out but, I love it. It lives in my guest bedroom. Now I'd like one for me. I love pinks, reds, greens..... Don't particularly like matchy matchy so I integrate batiks with the Kaffe. I don't want to box anyone in on my rows... use your imagination and best judgement. I will love and treasure it.

Whigrose 10-10-2012 03:52 PM

Ah, all is good for Group 6 - everyone has 'signed on' so to say.

So, what have you all been up to? I have been playing with a little 18" x24" 12-block applique sampler a quilting friend, unknowingly and innocently, sent my way by way of a link to another project she was asking input on. Right, you've all been there, right? Please tell me you get railroaded once in a while; it will make me feel less uncommitted.

Sooooo, I've been a bit distracted from working, or even thinking, about my row. And I need to pump out two blocks for my October partner over on the Quilting Bee Block of the Month swap. But no fear ladies, dh is off to camp for a few days and I plan on spending my time between tucking the gardens to bed for winter and the sewing room :-) Yes sa! :-) Fun for me. And time to commit to locking in what my theme for the Row by Row will be.

This wouldn't be a problem you see if there just weren't so many options :-) ;-)

best,
d

charlottemarie 10-10-2012 04:52 PM

Me too! Excited to start this thing.

Krisb 10-12-2012 11:09 AM

Whigrose I'm with you. Need to do my Oct swap blocks, my Sept BOM PP block, sandwich, quilt and bind Princess Inas's castles. My row is just going to have to wait until after we relocate to Florida.

Whigrose 10-20-2012 05:33 AM

Whigrose 11-16-2012 02:20 PM

Hey, where is everyone? How are your rows coming? Anyone ready to mail yet?

best,
d

Krisb 11-17-2012 08:15 PM

Had to take a break to tile a backsplash and lay flooring in the kitchen, dining room and hallway, but that will be done by Thanksgiving and then it will be the great quilting marathon.

charlottemarie 11-18-2012 09:14 PM

Please do not send a row to me until Dec. 1. I will not be ready early, lots of company for the holidays.

Ladies, where are you?

Our deadline for each person to have the first row is four days away.

Here's my starter row. I belong to another group as well as this one. The row I made for that one is detailed with applique and piecing. I have so little around that is just piecing so when it came time to work on my row for this one I decided to just piece.

Going for a primitive theme here - warm and cozy.

Krisb, this will be in Thursday mail to you.

best,
d

Krisb 11-28-2012 07:21 AM

And I will be here to receive it. Finishing the last block for my row today, but am waiting to hear from mistymarie so it knows where to go. Otherwise, the poor thing will just be hanging around my sewing room. PM'd her, but haven't heard back.

Whigrose 11-28-2012 04:09 PM

Charlottemarie and Krisb,

I just sent MistyMarie and mhobbs another pm. Hopefully they respond to it- wasn't very successful with previous ones but Qbee was able to make contact. I'm a bit anxious not hearing from them at all since our mailing date is three days away. Hang tight.

best,
d

charlottemarie 11-28-2012 05:16 PM

Me nervous also. I just finished my last Sue except for the sewdown. I will take pix as soon as I can. I had to leave off the house block, I picked a chubby Sue pattern and decided just to do all different color outfits but all the same pattern. I hope that is okay.

Whigrose 11-28-2012 05:31 PM

Charlottemarie,
This is your row quilt and you are entitled to design your row any way you wish :-)

Can't wait to see it.

You'll be in luck because you mail to me, but I am concerned for Krisb who should be mailing to MistyMarie. Let's hope the two ladies pop in and catch up with us soon.

d

Whigrose 11-29-2012 06:43 AM

Yeah, we have heard from mhobbs. She is still in and has her rows completed and is ready to ship. Whoot! Whoot! Hopefully she willl share a pic of her row with us.

Now, where can we find MistyMarie hiding? Hopefully she will be checking in with us soon.

best,
d

charlottemarie 11-29-2012 08:19 PM

Whigrose, please pm me your address, I am mailing my Sue's to you tomorrow.

Whigrose 11-29-2012 08:32 PM

All ladies have been heard from and everyone is right on time for sending out their rows. How about some pictures?

Charlotte, I sent you a pm with my address.

best,
d

Whigrose 11-30-2012 03:03 PM

My row has left the coop and is on it's way to krisb :-)
