There are lots of possibilities Whigrose, that is the fun of it all, but alas, we do have to make those decisions and go with it. On those pieced blocks you see, is there a way to make them smaller and then do all of them? This way you don't have to decide on just one or two, you can have nine or 18 for that matter.

Annaquilts 09-25-2012 01:51 PM

no i agree too many choices. sorry all lower case. dog on my lap.

Annaquilts 09-25-2012 07:23 PM

Well I got atleast a couple of fabrics picked out and some ideas for my first house and background. I was going to trace the patern but got so sleepy I took a nap. Maybe now I am rested I will get a good start tonight.

QuilterMomma 09-26-2012 07:19 AM

That sounds good, rest is a must for all of us. I am personally trying to get some but so much to do with canning and of course trying to get quilting done along with family issues that I have not got to focus on this one yet. While driving to and from work, I am mulling ideas of how I want this to go. I am kind of leaning towards making the blocks smaller then putting a border around the blocks then having the sashing row to divide the rows up. This way, I could have different sizes of blocks. I am thinking from the safari block swap, I got some pretty blocks from that that I could incorporate into this row robin quilt by adding a pieced border on the blocks. Could be fun, have to lay it out and see how it could come together. I would be with Whigrose and have hundres of flying gees or HSTs running around.

Annaquilts 09-26-2012 07:23 AM

Something is happening in village square

I like the idea of different size blocks Beth. It adds visual interest. I finaly got to making something. I say something because I started following a pattern and now I am add libbing. My 15 yr old DD, a quilter too, says she likes it. I think it will be a pieced and appliqued combo like quiltermomma suggested. I might also just have houses and other things running across the row instead of neatly staying inside the 12 inch block.
Sofar it does not look perfect or straight but I have no one to please but myself, right?

QuilterMomma 09-26-2012 07:33 AM

Yep, you go girl. Show a progress photo or just an idea of what you are doing. Would be fun to watch the row grow.

peggiszo 09-27-2012 04:54 AM

Hi Girls, It doesn't matter with me what we call ourselves Group 7 is fine. I would like to keep the Dec. 1 mail out and to stay on schedule so there is no pressure if one sends out early and then are to many months in between for others waiting. It's already going to be Oct 1 soon so that is only a month.
My theme is going to be a beach theme. I will include in my mailing what I would like and the colors I chose. I have been in other row robins and it's nice to have all the info in the packet instead of finding it on the website.
Everyone has some great ideas for their rows and can't wait to get started.

QuilterMomma 09-27-2012 07:54 AM

Thanks peggiszo. Seems like you are a busy lady as well. Thanks for the info and will look forward to when yours come around. I am excited to start working on these.

peggiszo 09-28-2012 04:43 AM

Thanks Quilter Momma. Yes I am busy with working and all. I am going on a 3 day retreat Oct 4 and plan on getting all my ducks in a row for our row robin. I've been looking at patterns and colors. Could we please have everyone put their directions for their row robin in the packet. I don't want to rely on the website for directions and worry I will miss something and make a mistake. Easier on paper for me! He he he! Thanks!

QuilterMomma 09-28-2012 07:27 AM

i believe it is a consenses on that topic of notes to go with row robins. Whigrose also suggested the same thing which I confirm is a great idea.

Annaquilts 09-28-2012 03:34 PM

One lone very tall and narrow house finnished. It measures about 5 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches. I think I will make another unti with somethng esle and just sew that onto it and keep doing that till I have 60 inches, one row. I might then still add some applique so the seams and units do not stand out. I used a lot of muted Moda fabrics and whatever I had on hand.

Right now I am busy ironing fabric that DH bought from another quilter and I washed. It is a little older but I overal like the quality and the patterns. Some of it will be great for the row blocks I am making for Village Square.

My doggie had her weekly bath. The kids did most of their home work and the weekend is here. Life is good! Now if there are squishies in the mail today or tomorrow life is perfect. LOL

Whigrose 09-28-2012 04:04 PM

Does anyone else get overwhelmed with all the possibilities, or is it just me? :-(

best,
d

Annaquilts 09-29-2012 08:18 AM

Nope whigrose I do too and that is just the problem.

QuilterMomma 10-01-2012 09:21 AM

Isn't that the fun of this is to encompass all the possibilities and then just create.

Annaquilts 10-02-2012 12:08 PM

I really like this idea. What some one else did for a row robin.

I love that. Would be fun to add to. I have some wonderful homespuns that would keep the theme. So, you going to do some of those? At least we have a good idea of what we can do to add to the fun of your quilt.

Annaquilts 10-02-2012 03:14 PM

I would like to. My homes are different but I don't think that should matter. I think I will make one more home and then see.
Kind of going by the seat of my pants but I am having fun. I hope to post a picture soon.

Oh Anna, I saw that a few days back and saved the photo for inspiration when it came time to work on your top. Isn't it great!

Deb and Beth, I think it would be great if you added home and trees like that to my rows. I might not change my direction but I definitely think those cute houses and trees fit with it, buttons and all. I just want to be sure I am not to restrictive if I go that route. So I think I will stick with a slighly more general approach so other things can be included too like-

My theme Country Village Square
think- country colors, checks, stripes, small prints, calicoes, salt box homes, quilts on laundry lines, chickens, trees, pineapples, sheep, stars, hearts, patriotic, flag, baskets, vegetable gardens, sunflowers, traditional quilt blocks and crows.
This has some ideas.

And the home spun houses with button trees. Love the home spuns and buttons.

It will also give Peggyzo and Babeyruth some insight also. This would be great to put on the note when your quilt goes traveling. Will be fun to see all the labels on our boxes when we keep using the same to send on.

Also on packing our quilts, a friend of mine said she stuffs the quilt in the box in a bag, then she uses the vacuum to suck out the air and ties it shut and quickly seals the box. This way it is air tight, less chance of damage and you can fit a pretty big quilt in a little box. Anna, I am sure your DH will do a fine job packing up the quilts to be mailed. My friend said she ships to the Netherlands all the time for her customers and one time customs opened the box and POOF out popped the quilts and he could not get them back in. I bet that was so funny and he had to have been a bit embarrased not being able to pack it up again. The lady had to go to the customs office to pick it up because they could not close it.

So....how are y'all coming along. Has everyone checked in?? If not, please PM me ASAP. Thanks!! :D

I just finnished two homes and made two mini quilts to hang onto a laundry line. I am researching crows and flowers to fill the space above the two little quilts on the laundry lines. I took pictures of the little quilts but some how they were not on the camera. So next time.

Whigrose 10-07-2012 03:16 PM

Annaquilts,
Those are great houses! I have been collecting ideas for when your rows get up to New England. Super excited to be doing this RxR with you and my new quilty 'friends'.

Here are some more pictures with the mini quilts and laundry line idea. I am not sure of the layout yet but it gives you an idea. I also made a flag but no pole yet. It is going way to slow and I need to just lock down and start making it. I am wasting way too much time in the pkanning and research stage. Too much fun!

Annaquilts 10-07-2012 03:28 PM

Whigrose, I am itching to see everyones rows. I really like this swap, the size group, themes, the liberal time lines and the wonderful people. Thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragements. I can't wait to see what everyone adds to my row and I am looking forward to adding to your row.

QuilterMomma 10-07-2012 04:46 PM

Those are awesome Anna. Love them. I have a book that has a bunch of little houses on them. I want to do a quilt shop for yours. THat would be cool, and maybe a couple other business for your row houses, does that work? If that is not something that would be an option, let me know.

Annaquilts 10-07-2012 04:58 PM

Beth that sounds great and I know I would love houses/shops like that. Thank you!

Whigrose 10-08-2012 06:14 AM

Anna Quilts,
Those mini quilts are too flippin cute!

Getting excited to see everyones progress.
take care and happy sewing peggy

QuilterMomma 10-10-2012 11:27 AM

So glad you checked in peggiszo, good to know you are having fun on retreat. I know the one I went to in July, a longarm quilt retreat, was so much fun. Truly is good to get away and do what you love.

Now for those photos, we are tapping our fingers and toes for them.

Wetting my appetite? Now I have to maybe buy more patterns. LOL Those are so dog on cute!

Annaquilts 10-19-2012 10:08 PM

Hello ladies! What has everyone been up to? I just made a tree and a church to add to my starter row. I also realized I have a whole extra month. For some reason I thought I had to have my row done and out by Nov. 1 instead of Dec. 12. Not that I am in danger of being done within the next week. It is good to find that extra month. :D Does anyone have pictures of what they are working on for the row robin? I need to start thinking Christmas presents.

QuilterMomma 10-22-2012 09:34 AM

I am so guilty at not haven even started it. I have ideas running thru my head, but nothing on paper yet to see how it will look. Figure it will be next weeks project. I am trying to finish up the wall hanging swap so I can focus on this one. Glad I am not signing up for many the next couple of months because I want to do a good job on this swap.

Annaquilts 10-25-2012 03:32 PM

Plopping this link here from the original thread as I can sometimes not find it any more.

How is everyone doing? We have five weeks left before we must meet the mailing deadline. The order that is posted on the first thread is the order we need to swap to keep straight. You can start to pm the person below you for their address.

QuilterMomma 10-26-2012 02:32 PM

I will mail to Annaquilts, Anna will mail to Whigrose, Whigrose to Babeyruth, Babeyruth to Peggiszo, and peggiszo to QuilterMomma.
If you prefer, I can pm each of you with the next person's address if that is easier for you. I just thought pm chatter between each person would be helpful for working on the row robins. You may have remembered a bit of info while you were working on it that you did not put on the NOTE when mailed.

Annaquilts 10-30-2012 02:09 PM

I decided I will make a barn too. I picked out the pattern and some of the colors. If there is any space left I will add a sunflower or maybe corn. Then I need to sew down any applique pieces before sewing the blocks in one row. This has taken me way longer then I realized. I was way over thinking many of my choices. Just too many. I like where it is going. How are you ladies doing? Any pictures yet?I am getting excited about trading and working on rows for each of you.

QuilterMomma 10-31-2012 07:39 AM

That will open the door for more fun. I have a couple of outhouse designs to embroider, will those work? (LOL)

The over thinking seems to come into play when doing one of these because we try so hard to come up with our own ideas that we add to much into them. You are doing well Anna.

How is everyone else coming along? I have not started yet, but after the craft show, will get on this one. I paid for the booth thinking that the child would have her candy bars to sell from choir, but they are not going to be ordered in time for the craft show so now I am making up a bunch of ornaments to sell. Then will put some of my quitls up for sale. Pray I sell enough to refurbish my costs for doing this. Daughter will be selling wreaths and poinsettas for choir which is good. Very frustrating. I was so counting on those candy bars so she could hearn her money for the choir trip.

Annaquilts 10-31-2012 12:01 PM

Oh no on the candy bars. Can she maybe make her own brownies with chocolate chips in it and sell those? My kids used to make glycerene soap bars with little plastic animals in it or different shapes for $5 to earn money for camp. They would go door to door. I now don't let them as it gives me the creeps even with their papa in the car right there.
