Anna, I can't wait to see what you come up with for your row. I just know I am going to enjoy working on it.

Babeyruth & Peggiszo I look forward to 'meeting' and working with you both.

Beth, I'm squealing so I know you are too :-)

I have not chosen my theme for this swap but I am seriously considering Civil War print blocks.

Sounds really good to me. I am ready with fabrics if need be. Right now I am doing several side swaps with Civil War blocks and the CW swap on the board with Deb Watkins.

I am as excited working on your row robin as I am on mine. Can't wait to hear about the different themes and see the rows.

Sorry, life crisis and did not realize that Qbee would be so wonderfully efficient. I am here I am here I am here, yep recently watched Horton Hears A Who. I have this on instant email notification so will be able to respond quickly enough to questions via my Iphone.

Yes Whigrose, I am so thrilled we are in a swap together. This will be so much fun!!!!!!

QuilterMomma 09-19-2012 02:24 PM

OK Quilters!!!!!.....WELCOME TO GROUP #7!!!! Agenda to get set on:
1. Do you gals want to pick a different name or is Group #7 fine with you?
2. Themes, I will go back and make sure I have them down as stated.
3. Sashing included?
4. December 1 is the first mailing deadline, please mark you calendars, phones, computer, and whatever else you need to keep on track.
5. Have fun!!!!!!!!
6. If you change your mind on your theme before the first mailing date, let me know so I can change my records.

So ladies, lets get quilting our rows!!!!
I'm really excited and can't wait to work on each of your tops :)

QuilterMomma 09-19-2012 02:27 PM

Thought of another questions: Please put a preference if want just pieced blocks or if embroidery will be good. Already I have a couple of things that are embroidery which will go with Annaquilts theme. I will keep track so we can be sure everyone is happy with their end results.

QuilterMomma 09-19-2012 02:30 PM

On my theme, which is easier for you gals, safari animal prints like lions tigers, giraffes, elephants, cheetahs, panthers, zebras, etc. or to do the crazy patch blocks? I am in two robins so need to decide which is which.

Annaquilts 09-19-2012 02:41 PM

Lets Plan!

Oh I'll take the wild animals any time over the crazy patch. So I am hoping we get the aimals. Sounds like fun! Prints only and piecing or applique too? Who is it for?

I think no sashing for me but I think I would like the row I make in the middle and then two rows above it and two rows below it. I guess it will be were ever you want to put it unless you are the last one to add the row.:DI am fine with embrodery, applique, paper piecing, piecing as long as the colors all kind of go. That is the only thing I have a hard time with. Not big on pink but love all kinds of scrappy. I am keeping this one for my home.

QuilterMomma 09-19-2012 03:29 PM

Anna, what we can do on the sashing, if everyone is ok with it, that if we want sashing we include it and if not, we don't. I think this will be easier than all trade or not. This way it personalizes the quilt to each own and can see it progress. How is everyone with that? Need some conversation to know how you all want to do this. Also was a discussion on stitching rows together, i think if we all know what the others are doing and if we are or not attaching rows, we can keep it in conversaiton and ask each other. I will put you down for no sashing on your list Anna so I have the info.

Annaquilts 09-19-2012 03:51 PM

I am totally fine with putting sashing, provided or not, on peoples quilts. I can definitely see doing that with single blocks. Just tell me what to do. :D

Whigrose 09-20-2012 06:35 AM

Hi all,
Just checking in with our group. I am so excited to see what everyone is planning for their rows.

To answer the questions of our Group Leader -
  • Group name - I have no preference if we are known as Group 7 or by another name.
  • Theme - My theme is 'My Sewing Room'- items found in my room (or wished I had in my room ;-)
  • Sashing - My preference is to join my rows when they come home to me. As for others, I have no objections if you want to include sashing for your rows to be joined as the top grows.

A few years back I belong to a RxR swap. Each member included some sort of correspondence with their row. As each additional row was made, the maker jotted down how or why she added what she did to the quilt top. This was intended as a way to share your likes and dislike. For example, I don't like lavendars and pastels but adore the talent of hand appliquing. I will be including some sort of booklet with my row for each of you to write in if you so choose.

Question - Do we want to poll the Group 7 members to see if we can send our rows early, or should we stick to the deadlines?

best,
d

"Question - Do we want to poll the Group 7 members to see if we can send our rows early, or should we stick to the deadlines?"

I do know that Peggiszo and Babeyruth do not have their themes down yet and I have not started mine as of yet. How do the rest of you feel? I am not going to get to mine till probably mid October or so because of other committments.

I think if we are all ready early, like beginning of November, we can send out.

Annaquilts 09-20-2012 07:23 AM

If we are all ready I think we should but please no pressure I want to have fun. Once I have my row made I will post. I do not do well under pressure so I try to finnish early.

QuilterMomma 09-20-2012 07:31 AM

There is no pressure and don't worry, if you are not set by November 1, then we will wait as such. The final deadline for first move is December and if we need to wait till then so be it. My main goal is that we get a great end result and we stay on task of the official deadlines.

Anna, sent you an email regarding the other item we are working on.

Whigrose 09-20-2012 08:37 AM

I agree, no pressure for anyone. If the rows are done early, if all agree, we can mail them early, otherwise we stick to the deadlines.

Questions for the group:
  1. Would the group have any objections if I request my rows be significantly smaller than 12.5 x 60.5? Each wall in my studio, with the exception of one, is already dedicated. The available wall is exposed to bright sunlight thus making it unacceptable for a place to hang any sort of fabric; plus, it is around a corner in an alcove where whatever hangs there would never be seen. And we can;t have that, can we? ;-)
  2. I cut out appliques of three of my antique machines. Originally I had thought to use each of them in my starter row. Now I am wondering if they should be spread around the quilt top. Would two of you be willing to work one of them into your row you do for me? No worries if there is no interest in doing that, I will work them in. It was just a thought I had.

Whisper - I may just ditch the whole theme and go with something else.

best,
d

QuilterMomma 09-20-2012 08:43 AM

They are so pretty girl. As stated, put it in the note of what you are working toward, include it into the box for mailing and I believe we can make adjustments for it. I know I can. If you say I want this in row 3, then that person would add it, and row 5 so they are spread evenly around, then we can do that. This way we are getting a great end result as we want. Also, I believe you said you were not fond of machine embroidery? Be sure that is on your list so I do not do all the wonderful antique sewing machines I have on my embroidery designs, and put them in your quilt when you don't want them. (LOL)

I LOVE YOUR APPLIQUES!!!!!!!!!! Great job on designing them. Wow, I personally know how awesome your work is from the quilt I have hanging on the wall that I enjoy every day which next year will go in a couple of quilt shows in your honor of course.

Annaquilts 09-20-2012 08:48 AM

I'd gladly work one of your pretty babies in. Just send one if you'd like. Also whatever size you need /want on my behalf. I'll adjust. I don't do smaller then 3 1/2 at this point though but I love 3 1/2 and 6 1/2 blocks especially for paper piecing.

My theme will probably just a modern, I am in 2 groups and so far they are modern themed

I agree, I would like the option to join the rows when they come home so I can setup the order. :)

I already have my rows ready to go, I do like some direction from the owner but not too picky please! I want to have fun and not be too pressured to have it perfect or with tight directions. I am looking foward to stretching myself by working on other rows!

My replies are on top!

QuilterMomma 09-21-2012 08:42 AM

Update on each theme and sashing issue:
Annaquilts: Country Village Square, no sashing and no joining rows
Whigrose: Sewing room, no sashing and no joining rows with variable sizes on rows possible
Babeyruth: My Sewing Room, no sashing and no joining rows
Peggiszo: Lets go to the Beach, _________
QuilterMomma: Safari/Jungle, sashing and can join rows.

Now it seems I am the only one with sashing and joining rows, I can do it when I get it, but was cheating the process because assembly seems to be my slow point on things so thought I could pass the buck a little. But if you wish to not, that is fine as well.

Also, please include a LABEL with your quilt package. That would be great for all of us to sign it as we finish each row. Now that may seem silly when the rows won't be joined, but could always label the dates of mailing or something like that. You decide on your label. Thought was a great idea.

Mailing will happen when we are all ready to send on and no later than deadlines. since I have not even started mine, I am already behind. No pressure for anyone. When my canning and garden work are done, will have a bit more time to work on this. I have it on my list of to dos for October. Customer quilts first.

Annaquilts 09-21-2012 09:27 AM

I love all the themes and will gladly sew rows together and add sashing for you Beth. Anyone make labels and want to make me one for this swap and trade me for something for it? My labels are just a piece of fabric, often a heart, that I write on and then set with an iron.

QuilterMomma 09-21-2012 09:46 AM

I can do an embroidery label for you if you want. I will snap shot it and then post so you can see. Give me a few though. So excited about this, but have to be patient to wait because I really need to stick to my plan for the rest of September to accomplish what needs done first. After I am done sewing on bindings, I can put the embroidery machine on and then do that while hand stitching or longarming. Yep, us women on the multitask thing.

If anyone else or all of you want me to do the labels, we can decide together and I can stitch them all up at once and mail them out. Just let me know. That is for Lucky 7 group or the Hevenly Seven and I would add Stars (barring no other name offered). Which name would you ladies like?

Annaquilts 09-21-2012 01:05 PM

Well if you are sure. I know you are busy. No rush. We have plenty of time. Let me know what I can trade with. I like the Heavenly Seven or lucky Seven, either way.

QuilterMomma 09-21-2012 01:12 PM

Oh girl, no trade, my treat. I think what I may do is put down the date, the person who is to do that row by then their name and do a line so you may sign it that way.

Working away, ah, er, um, scratch that, playing with fabric. Just stitched forty miles of flying geese together that I might use in my row. Next up - see if I can't find a couple or three blocks to piece together. I really have no idea where this row is going in terms of compostition. Just flying by the seat of my pants and fabrics that appeal to me.

QM- you know I won't have any issues at all playing with sashing for you. So, send the puppies along and enough about it ;-)

Anna, have you started your row yet? Any pics?

Maybe I'll take a couple of pics tomorrow just to show what's been happening here. And feedback is appreciated.

d

QuilterMomma 09-21-2012 02:02 PM

hey Whigrose, while cleaning up the office, my mind went wandering and you could do a machine applique with the machine stitching up a block or a crazy quilt or something like that. Or I can add that to your quilt when it comes around. Thought that sounded cool. Now there are spool blocks and you could add lines of colored theread around it, or use blank sashing between your blocks and applique little wooden spools of thread around and hand embroidery pins and needles as well. just the outlining stitches, Not sure where you were going with yours, but those would be nice.
Maybe Babeyruth would like some of those ideas as well, she is doing her sewing room theme as well.

Back to cleaning office. Got tired of paperwork now for some physical.

Whigrose 09-21-2012 02:11 PM

Too funny. Yesterday I actually pulled a couple pieces of fabric out with the idea of a mini quilt being 'stitched' on one of the applique machines.

Great minds....

QuilterMomma 09-21-2012 02:38 PM

Yep, you said it. I am quilting one I made this weekend hopefully. That is what gave me the idea.

No nothing happenng here yet. I have too many ideas and then I can't lock in. I am putting it aside for a moment and focussing on a CW side swap I am doing.

Also remember that puppy some one was going to send me but I never got? Well I found one myself, a 4 1/2 lb 6 month old little girl. She is settling in an learning how to run my household.

Pictures won't post right now but here is a link to a post on the board with pictures of Nina. Scroll down about mid way.

Under Nina's pictures is also a picture of my quilt buddies that use the treadle machines at the house.

QuilterMomma 09-25-2012 08:03 AM

Checking in with you ladies to see how you are doing and you must be really thinking hard and sotring thru fabrics.

Annaquilts 09-25-2012 08:37 AM

I am trying to decide between applique and piecing. I do have the fabrics standing out and a stack of possible ideas/patterns. I want to get this going soon.

QuilterMomma 09-25-2012 09:43 AM

Since I know you love to paper piece, wouldn't that be a starting place and then you can add on sky and lawn then do the applique as well? Just a thought if that helps for ideas.

Whigrose 09-25-2012 01:12 PM

Annaquilts,
Why do you have to decide between the two techniques? Can't you do both, or don't you like blending them?

I am actually considering adding some applique (sewing-related items) to my pieced blocks. I am totally struggling with 'What am I going to do with my row?". I keep seeing pieced blocks I like but I'm one of those that second, third and sixteen times guesses myself. There are just so many possiblities, right? Right! :-)

d
