I understand - - -

I hope you'll drop in occasionally to see what we're up to.

Wholeheart Mom 07-27-2016 05:13 AM

I've been on the fence about this swap, but I'm ready to commit to one set of six blocks. I'll send you a PM.

QuilterMomma 07-27-2016 08:22 AM

Will get on these in a couple days, have to finish up bindings on four quilts and quilt some customer quilts that are backing up on me. Then do some of these and my other swaps. Daughter is doing some sewing as well. She is making a bargello. She dug thru my stash and found seven fabrics that look well together. Thinking this one is not leaving the house, my Civil War fabrics. Will post a photo for you.

jclinganrey 07-27-2016 01:08 PM

This is exciting, ladies!! I had no idea how much, if any interest there would be to get this going. I can see some really pretty quilts in our futures - - -

djmat 07-28-2016 04:08 PM

Such a pretty quilt! Hope you have room for me! Sending PM now!

Hi! How exciting, I'd love to join if I'm not too late. I'll pm you my info. A large quilt sounds lovely, I'm up for a challenge of making 6 sets of 6 blocks. It will be my Christmas present to myself, a little bit of everyone's talent and style. It will be a gorgeous quilt.

djmat 07-28-2016 07:05 PM

I really must jump out of this swap because I don't have enough lights right now, used them on last project. Now I know what I need to buy! Hope to return to see your lovely blocks!

So, I made up my sample block and it turned out well. However, I need to finish a quilt by August 19, so for now I am going to opt out. :( If this swap is still going on at a later date, I may sign up when I have more "uncommitted" time.

Sheep Farmer 07-29-2016 11:40 AM

Oh, I love the Hunter's Star and would so love to join in on this swap.
Normally, I would have plenty of time to make the blocks for the swap, but currently I'm so busy with my son's wedding that I just cannot do it. If you do this again later in the year or next year, count me in!

frustratedquilter40 07-29-2016 12:22 PM

Jane I am shooting for 6 sets .. I have them cut just need to sew them up.

Cheesehead 07-29-2016 12:57 PM

I'm going to have to opt out of the swap for this month. Just found out I am having company that will be staying for a week. No time for sewing (bummer) just cleaning and cooking!

QuilterMomma 07-29-2016 02:26 PM

"We will be making and swapping Hunter Star blocks each month so we all will have a great scrappy assortment for our quilts!!"

This is in the first post so those who can't now may be able to later if I read it correctly. This way we can collect several blocks, at least that is what I am hoping for to make a nice scrappy hunter star quilt.

Jannie 07-29-2016 05:22 PM

I have decided to join. Hopefully I can go into my room and find enough without making a trip to the store.

Nanny's dollface 07-29-2016 07:35 PM

These quilts will be stunning! Wished I had the time to participate!

Darn! Bummer! You're welcome to jump in anytime as long as we're doing this swap so whatever works in your schedule is fine.

You're absolutely right. Anyone can 'jump in' and 'jump out' when ever they want. If you want to make one set of 6 blocks one month and are not available to swap in another month, that's fine. If you want to swap as many as six sets of blocks (36 blocks) in any given month and swap a different amount in another month, that's fine too!

This is a very flexible swap and I hope everyone feels comfortable with the 'come & go' approach.

Please do what works for you and your schedule and other life requirements.

[email protected] 07-30-2016 07:38 PM

Yes i would like to join your swap. I think i understand the process. Sounds like fun, i have never done this before but i love scrappy quilts and will be fun to see defferent fabrics.

Quick and easy method to make 8 HST -- Magic 8 --- start with 7" of your 2 fabrics.... here's a link to help

http://quilting.about.com/od/piecing...ngle-Units.htm

Wham, you'll have your 8 HST in a few minutes and the rest will be a breeze.

Have fun with this swap...can't do it for now but maybe another month I can...

Lisa great info with links. This is the method I use, I do bigger than trim. It's a little extra work, I am so bad at triangles and points no matter how careful I work.....this works for me.

Irene C. 07-31-2016 04:21 PM

Ok ladies I'm back, been digging in a couple of buckets the past few hours and cutting.....15 is what I got cut.
Here is what I've decided to do/,did....where I had enough fabric I cut an extra block and put them in a big Ziploc baggie. These I will use for a couple of pillows or shams, I also cut as many 3 inch squares as I could of any leftover bits.......but why you ask......prairie points. Yes I'm crazy, but the more I cut the more I realized I could really make a dent on my scrap buckets and use a lot of it up.
One more thing I did was cut a little piece of every fabric I used and used another baggie, these are for me to keep track of the fabric I've used so I don't duplicate any fabrics on the following months. I am going to try and make 36 blocks every month and there is no way I will remember all the fabric....especially if I used all of the scrap.
Big challenge, lots of work for me, I'm going to love it when I am done. Wish me luck luck.

[email protected] 07-31-2016 06:05 PM

Jane, how do we know where to send the blocks to? Is there any thing that we need to know ? Also how do we include the money?

Jane is the print on the light (background squares) to large?

jclingenrey....you asked what we think.....This is how I did mine. I grabbagged the dark fabric, then "matched" a light like frustratedquilter40. The darks dont go together (all over the place) but the blocks, individually, look good. If no cute match, I just used a white solid.

I took a photo of my fabrics, but a baggy is a good idea.

Irene C. 08-01-2016 05:18 AM

Jane Quilter a photo is a good idea as well. I might take a photo of the finished block and add them to a folder just for this swap.
The 3 inch prairie points I am cutting are either for the binding which I've done before or add to a boarder which I've not done before.
Have a great day ladies, 100 degree plus this week.....hot! More fabric cutting and trying to keep cool.

Wholeheart Mom 08-01-2016 08:41 AM

The Magic 8 method works beautifully for this! I have a set of six blocks completed and I will post a picture hopefully tomorrow. The scrappiness is really appealing... usually I am not a fan of uber-scrappy, but with this pattern it compliments nicely. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with :)

Thanks, Lisa. Great resource. I've found I can do the same thing with 6" squares to get my 8 HST's.

Please do whatever works for you as long as your HST's are 2 1/2" unfinished.

I'm working on my blocks as we speak - - - -

Rosemary Attaway 08-01-2016 12:07 PM

so we make 6 like you have shown for the swap not 4 units per each 6 to make 6 total blocks that are alike? I'm confused whether it means just 6 units of the blocks or total blocks!

**************

Each set is 6 different Hunter Star blocks. Yes, it takes 4 blocks to make a single star however, if you choose to make 6 sets of 6 you would have 9 complete star blocks.

You may choose how many sets of 6 you'd like to make - as many as 6 sets of 6 blocks (36 blocks).

Any other questions, please let me know.

As long as it's the same dark fabric & same light fabric per block then you're good to go!

As I go through my stash, I'll cut a 6" square (for the HST's) and a 4 1/2" square of one fabric and do the same for the contrasting fabric then pair them up.

I have 2 more to make then I'll post pictures. Remember - - - we love pictures!!
