I love all the banter going on...learn something & get a few chuckles along the way. I don't have time to post alot, but I do keep up with the thread every couple days. Dec. 7 is good for me!

COOKIES!!!!! Hooray, I love holiday baking! So...was it Penni who started this (sorry I've been reading A LOT to catch up)...a file was mentioned...does this mean there is a spot where all the recipes go and we can print them from that?
Well, regardless, I will bring out my best Christmas recipes tomorrow and try to decide which to share...chocolate carmel cookies? Holiday mix? Lemon poppyseed kolachkes, raspberry hazelnut trees? Oooooh! Maybe cranberry hootycreeks! Yeah, and if I'm the recipient of home baked goodies, I'll do a backflip...or at least I'll wish I could. I sent too early to include homemade goodies...but I might just make up a lil' package and send it separate at some point for the fun of it. My SS was specific about what she wanted, though, and it is not my specialty. Wonder how firm she was on that... |
Received my SS package today. Came from Colorado, my home state. I gently shook it, no sound; shook a little harder, no sound; shook for all it's worth, not a peep! Package very dense, no movement inside. Heavy for it's size. Secret Santa decorated it very nicely. Can you tell I'm working it for all it's worth LOL.

It sure does get rowdy here on a Friday night! I think I'll just relax with a nice rum and coke while I wait for my parcel to arrive.

I have found the "her" gifts for Christmas, (I found them here- http://youtu.be/N4gSQmyO2m4) fabric to fit personality. Guys are getting homemade goodies. Gotta get them going...

PenniF the cookie file sounds great. I don't really make cookies so don't have a favourite recipe to share, but a file of new recipies could get me started. Thanks

Nessie, please tell that someone the package came through its Trial and Tribulations without a hitch. That someone did a very nice job on packing. Sniffing is a way of life, is it not?

Yes, sniffing can tell a lot about a package, especially if one very gently squeezes the package, first. :D |
Neesie, I use my ears more than my nose.
I can hear my husband sneak one potato chip from 1 floor and 3 rooms away. And I can hear poly cotton...don't ask. My sniffer not so much since the day as a youngun' when I saw the beautiful geraniums and thought they must smell as good as they looked. Took a gigantic whiff .... Yrerrckkk |
Just took my apple dump cake out of the oven. It smells heavenly. It will be cool by the time I get ready to go to the hole after dinner. I'll be bringing apple dump cake and hard cider.

Pecan Tassies (mini pecan pie cookies) with Bonus Cookie info
* Note: for the Tassies you need a mini muffin pan - Dough: 3/4 cup butter - softened/room temperature 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teasp salt 1 egg lightly beaten 1 teasp vanilla 2 cups flour Additional sugar in bowl to roll dough in later Cream butter and sugar - add egg, salt and vanilla - stir in flour. Chill 30 minutes Filling: 1/4 cup light Karo syrup - 1/4 cup dark Karo syrup - 1 tablespoon butter, melted - 1 egg - 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed - 1/8 teasp salt - 1 tablespoon flour - 1/2 teasp vanilla - 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans. Stir together brown sugar, flour, egg and melted butter - add remaining ingredients and stir together. *Stir frequently to keep the pecans well mixed in the filling Heat oven to 350. Roll dough into balls about 3/4" diameter - flatten - Place in muffin tins and press evenly to form "pie" shell. Fill them about 3/4 full. Bake about 12-15 minutes - turn out of muffin tin onto cooling rack immediately. Makes several dozen cookies. BONUS cookie. The above cookie dough is so flexible. You can add anything to it - chopped nuts, raisins, coconut, mini chips, crushed peppermint, butterscotch chips, maraschino cherries --- and change the vanilla to almond extract or a touch of peppermint. You can also press a walnut or pecan half, or a Hershey's kiss in the center of the ball right before baking. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet. This is the one that i do with the DGDs at Christmas....i just make sure i have lots of things to mix in and "stick" in and they take it from there. |
Sorry I've been scarce. I'm still here, just been busy.
We do need to figure out what day would be good for Reveal Day. No, it cannot be tomorrow!! It has to be a consensus. We usually have it the first Sunday in December around afternoonish time. Think about it and figure it out.......... |

A few people have been talking about Dec 7th which sounds good to me; there has to be that time period for everyone to "wonder over what is in their present".
|
Love all the recipes all sound great I have a few I make every year one is real easy, one takes a bit. Almond cookies and Date balls. Tonight's dinner is Corned beef and potatoes with Acorn squash on the side. I'll bring some to the hole if there is a rum and coke around.
|
It's here...it's here.....my SS package arrived today!! It is sooo heavy...have shook it, smelled it, listened to it...did everything but open it! Even my granddaughter was excited when she saw it! Dec 7th is good for me also. Now to finish my box and get it sent before I crawl back into the hole....save some room for me !!!
|
Ho, ho, ho, it's here, here, here. A plain brown wrapper well decorated with stickers and reminders to not open just MUST be from my secret santa. Looking at the return address, I can see that it didn't come from far away - a short drive down the highway. Maybe we can meet in person one day for a real thank you.
|
Dec 7th is fine with me....

We went to get the mail today out of the PO box and while there, I picked up one of the large "if it fits, it ships" boxes so I could wrap the individual SS gifts before I sent it out Monday. Imagine my red face when DH comes out with the full box, and it is already a stuffed large box!
Dear Secret Santee, I will give you a choice, wrapping paper or extra stuff? (If she says wrapping paper, I am going to be so happy... I could use really thick tape and be even happier...lol!) I spent the whole day sewing and got 10 coin purses and one purse done. We went to go buy dinner tonight and the cashier loved my purse, so I have an order for one for money, yippee! you will notice there are only nine coin purses pictured, that is because DD came by just as I finished them, and one of the panty ones jumped right in her pocket! Lol! |
yaaaaa/got m SS pkg, today and its really heavy i cant wait ,Dec 7th, is fine with me too i will mailing mine out on monday, my SS just lives about 100 miles from me, and i go there quite often, SOM

Sounds like there is some interest in getting all the recipes after the reveal - Anyone who would like the collected recipes can please send me a PM with their email address so that i can send them the word file then.
Madamekelly - if you will PM me, i'll be sure to note that yours needs to be a jpeg.....Oh, and if anyone else needs the file in a format other than Word, please note that in your PM. Still waiting for more recipes to post y'all !! Some of the ones that have been mentioned have sure sounded good !! |
PenniF just sent you a PM, would love the recipes too. I didn't post the pumpkin cookie recipe yesterday, cut up our deer and got it in the freezer. By the time we were...I was done too :)
Pumpkin Cookies 1 1/2 cups butter or margarine (3 sticks) 2 cups packed brown sugar 1 large egg 1 teas. vanilla 2 cups pumpkin 4 cups flour 2 cups oatmeal 2 teas. baking soda 2 teas. cinnamon 1 teas. salt 1 cup chopped nuts (or more and 2 cups chocolate chips - optional) Cream butter and br. sugar until fluffy, add egg and vanilla. Alternate the dry ingredients and pumpkin, mix well after each addition. Stir in nuts and chips. Makes 6 dozen large cookies. Bake at 350 13 - 15min These work with either pumpkin or squash, I usually cook mine from the garden and measure out 2 cups and freeze. Use it all year long. |
This pumpkin recipe is a new one for me....never had one with oatmeal in it before so gotta try it.
