Jayne, Amazon has portable plug in batteries and solar panel to recharge. Just trying to find a back-up for power outage so the Capp can run through the night.
Have fabrics cut and packaged for both groups. |

Cheesehead! Welcome back! You were missed!
Hi Duckling! Welcome to the group. You will love being a part of it. We all do miss your sister. |
Duckling welcome to the group. Hope you love participating in the booms.
Jayne glad you are enjoying your life and Gary enjoys sailing. Yeah that you joining in again |

I've been sitting on the fence, feeling like I really shouldn't be doing any more booms until I get some of the blocks assembled. I had not even taken the blocks out of the bags for the last boom. I had not even made my own block for the group, so got that done so I'd have 20 blocks to work with. Got to sewing and got three tops assembled. For the first I used a set of black/bright swap block and a set of spring pastel blocks (we had to stick to specific colors). These are both from long ago swaps on another board. The other two are from the last boom on this board.

Macybaby, great job getting those boom quilts put together! Hope you join us in the new swaps!
pet, pretty fabrics! Which are you sending out in your boom packages? I have been having internet connectivity problems… so I am posting from my phone. We have had nothing but rain for over a month, and that wreaks havoc with our internet. One of the drawbacks of living way out in the country… |
Macybaby great job on the three quilt tops, I almost have one finished but have been working on a couple other projects.
I hope you decide to join in, love your fun and thoughtful comments |
I think we need names; flowers, fruits, movies…?

month? That’s a veggie….Mums for fall? Poinsettia? Pumpkin and Poinsettia? |
Nice to meet everyone here on boom. Welcome sewbizgirl as the new coordinator I am very bad about posting as I don’t hang out on my computer much. I am married for 25 years. Had only one child. Lost him in 1999 he left behind a daughter whom I am so close to and now I have a great granddaughter of 7 months. So very exciting. Been sewing since I was about 16 so that is a very long time. I work as a industrial stitcher making clothing and bags. I have quilted for 35 years. I haven’t decided yet on a fabric but will look in my stash soon. Have fun everyone and can’t wait to begin this 3 month long journey with you all
|
I am so loving the fabrics you all have chosen! Jayne -- exciting that you are going to be able to retire to a sailboat!!!
Happy Labor Day everyone! |
We are now in Alabama! Left yesterday from Wisconsin at 2:15 am and drove straight through stopping only for gas arriving here at 5:30pm. Got the car unpacked and went to bed. This morning we worked outside, the bushes grew over 3 ft (no exaggeration) so we pruned those and the azaleas in the front yard. For the next several days we need to continue to remove the same kind of growth in the rest of the yard. It is crazy hot and humid but at least there is a breeze, in a couple of weeks the weather will be gorgeous...can't wait!
Looking forward to going through my stash of fabric for the swap. I know I have some chrysanthemum fabric in two different color ways, I just need to check the yardage on them. But for now, we are enjoying an adult beverage and some quiet time together. Cheese |
Cheesehead, glad you made it to Alabama in one day. How nice that you have another house to winter in.
Here is the updated list. We have lost one 2 month swapper, leaving us with 7 so far. Would any 3 month swappers like to do both groups, perchance? The three month group is filling up nicely with two new additions, bringing it to 16. Everyone please check these lists for your names and let me know if I've made a mistake. 2 month swap: 7 Terriamn Sewbizgirl Hav4boys RebaQuilts Petthefabric Lstew2212 Duckling 3 month swap: 16 JaniceMcC Terriamn Sewbizgirl Bibliostone Hav4boys MJPEncinitas RebaQuilts Ibex94 Travelinggramma Petthefabric Lstew2212 Cheesehead Marcialee Klaws Mosher92 JayneW Happy Labor Day tomorrow!! |
Oh, forgot to say our earlier group will be the Pumpkins and the later group will be Holly. I thought about Pumpkins and Poinsettias, but it's too tedious to type 'pointsettia' as many times as we will have to! So, Holly it is!

Hi Anna!!
OK, I just sent out emails to everyone who has signed up. The title of the email is "Boom 28 Swap Shipping". Please let me know a.s.a.p. if you did not get the email. It contains my address to mail to and instructions on how to cut and ship your F8s. |

I’m afraid I came up with the same cost as Klaws. $9.65. Also, I checked the usps website and effective October 2 through the January 22, 2023, there will be a temporary price increase. I’m not sure how much it will be but it does appear to affect our priority packages.

I read your email. I think the postage is $9.65 not $8.30.

The stamp increase is a bit frustrating I just purchased 5 of the priority stamps
|
I will be shipping with PirateShip because they offer discounted rates. As of today, the padded USPS bag is $8.30 with them. If the rates go up in the middle of our swap, I suppose I will need to ask you to send a little more when you return your blocks. We'll see....
Hey, didn't you all read the first post, where I told you I would be using a discounted rate? BUSTED. If you round up, I will take that to mean that you want to donate to the ink fund. |
SBG, Completely missed the discounting on the shipping. Good for you!
|
I have heard from at least half a dozen of you that I got the shipping wrong. That tells me that at least half a dozen of you did not read my initial post, where I talked about why shipping was cheaper for this Boom. Fer shame, fer shame... (In my best Gomer accent, LOL.)
Those who are in both groups and want tol take advantage of combined return shipping of their blocks, plan on the $14 box. If I can somehow fit your blocks from two groups into one envelope, I will, and will refund the extra for the box. But probably not. Remember this involves finishing both groups in time for the 2 month deadline, and then waiting for the 3 month deadline to get blocks back. But that's your most economical option if you are in both groups. You can do separate shipping if you don't mind paying for it. ( I hate that shipping costs so much these days.) |
After reading shipping information will need to repackage.
Never heard of pirate ship. |
Hi Ladies, I have been out of town for the holiday weekend. Glad to see we have more ladies interested in the boom “ Hi all”. I am going to spend the next two days getting my fabric ready to mail out. I need to go read the instructions again. Good Night
|
Good Morning boomers! Our little town celebrates Labor Day weekend with 3 days of activities and with us living here officially 1 year we participated in quite a few, some were lots of fun and others were a big flop. My dd who has been here for the last 3 weeks ran the 5 mile race and they had a kids 1 mile race, lots of hooting and hollering. A very special time. Dd left yesterday for her home in Texas, it’s going to be very quiet without her.
My fabric is bagged just have to write the notes |

Never heard of pirate ship. Just ship as usual, ladies. I will save you some $$ by shipping back with PirateShip. |
SBG, I should ship by the end of the week. So looking forward to playing this round! In the meantime, I’m just plugging away on my avatar quilt. Starting to get rows stitched up and making units for the outer border. Love seeing it come together.
|
Sounds good, Janice. Everyone please keep in mind you need to get your F8s to me by the 20th. That means, in my hand... so please ship in plenty of time for the method you are using.
I have been trying to set up our Groups pages, here on the board. This is where we will host our pictures for this Boom. There is a group for Pumpkins and a group for Holly. You should be getting an invitation to join the group(s) you are in. I have been posting our fabrics there, the ones I know for sure are for which group. If you have posted fabrics for both groups, please pm me with which fabric is for which group, and I'll get them into the right group page. We have never used the Groups feature of the QB before (as long as I've been a member), and will still be doing all our chatting and posting of pictures in the threads. I will grab the pictures from the threads and post to the group albums. Then you will have one place to look for pictures, rather than having to scroll through the threads as we move along. As far as I know they won't be divided by members as they were at Weebly, all nice and tidy. But at least they will be in one place. So please join your group when you get the invite. I"ll be starting the two separate threads on Sunday, once sign ups have closed. In the mean time, pick your fabrics and post pictures here. I'd like to get all the fabric pictures into the group albums before we start. That's it, until I think of something else! |
For those who have not had success posting photos, please email them to me so I can post them for you. Your photos are important.

Hello one and all. so good to see you and reread about you. And even recall you! So glad to be back in a group. Currently we are in Northern NH - and will not be traveling this winter (I was so looking forward to meeting up with the Florida gals again) But oh well. I don't have my stash so I guess I will be visiitng the LQS and building up a new stash~
Here is my fabric for Holly. Love that name. Not sure what I will be doing with the quilt - but just loved the fabric and can't wait to see all what you make with it. |
SBG, package went out today. Sent you tracking info.
TG, it’s a shame you’ll need to build a little stash in NH. A shame. Not! Hope you enjoy your new digs this autumn. You ought to see some amazing color! Maybe inspiration for another quilt one day. |

Sewbizgirl, mailing my fabric F8 today. I may have cut too many F8's -- whoever needs to build their stash and has extra room in their box it's theirs! I was so excited to start I made my first square. Ready to start on all the "Pumpkins"!
|
Looking good, duckling! Our very first Boom block!!
TG, pretty fabric. I'll add it to the Holly pictures. Anyone get an invitation from the board to join the Holly group or the Pumpkin group? I assume it will come in your pms. |
I got an invitation but am unsure how to accept it. Perhaps I need to be on my laptop to see the whole thing?

I was able to join Holly without problem not sure if Pumpkin worked. Said I couldn’t join then went blank
Janice I went to view pictures and was asked if I wanted to join the group I clicked on yes and became a member |
How I shrink pictures with my computer:
I right click on my picture, and then click on "edit". That opens the picture up in Paint. On the first tab, there is an icon at the top that looks like a box on top of another box. I click on that and a little field of percentages and pixel counts opens. The percentages will all be at 100%. If you change one, they all change. I change mine to 25% usually, because the QB will only upload very small photos. Once you have it reduced you close out, and Paint will ask you if you want to save your edit. Click 'save'. Next time you use your picture it will be the reduced version. Iphone pics are huge and always must be reduced before the QB will take them. |
