Hi Boom sisters,
I just got back from a five week van (99 Ford Econoline) trip, visiting National, and State parks and my four grandkids. My husband and I hike, bike and kayak. We usually do two things a day My favorite is when we kayak and bike. I came back 5 lbs lighter and in great shape. I am an exercise physiologist, who specializes in Fall Prevention so this is a bit of a dream vacation for me. My favorite parts of quilting are FMQ and raw edge applique. My boom sisters have helped me improve my piecing tremendously. I’ve decided to make art quilting a priority so when I’m not doing boom blocks, I’ll be doing art quilting and of course finishing up my UFO’s. I’m working through the book The Perfect 100 Day Project. It turns out my perfect project is snorkeling in the morning and working on art quilts in the afternoon on a Caribbean Island. Anyone want to join me? Mary Jo |
MJP Me me me, I love the Caribbean and most of all snorkeling

MJPEncinitas, I’m in, too! It all sounds wonderful and I’m not fussy about the island. 😀 Love snorkeling but you’ve got to watch that sunburn on the backs of the legs. Don’t ask me how I know.
I went ahead and made my first block this evening. It’s one of my favorites and it’s spot on for size. What a relief since I’ve spent the last year on 6 inch finished blocks. This one looks huge! Tomorrow I’ll make one with a white background and a color or maybe two. Hope everyone has a pleasant evening. |
Janice I love your block, what is the name and where do you find the pattern, if you don’t mind my asking
|
Hi Terriamn. Hope you are doing well! The block pattern is one I believe I got from Bibliostone years ago (she might have posted it online) and I don’t know the name but she probably can tell us.

Duckling, great block, I’m excited to make a block to represent Ukraine.
mjpEncinitas, I started art quilting last year and made a wall hanging of Monument Valley. We visited there in the spring. I love the Caribbean islands, my favorite sport is snorkeling. I would love to get my scuba certification. Janice McC, great block. I need to get my fabric photos posted. Will do that this evening. I need to go get ready for work now. |
Oh please make a snorkel and quilt retreat. What fun that would be. We could even do an art quilt of what we see underwater. Oh I am dreaming and drooling. And finish up the day with a beverage as the sun goes down!
Janice - I have always admired that block from Bibliostone. Great job on it. and now a new for me - a social group page!! When I went to Holly it just asked if I wanted to join and I checked yes. I can go on the pumpkins but because i am not in the group it didn't ask me. My world is not spinning as fast and i can now enjoy being on the forum more!! The Macaw has decided he does not like me after all and refuses to step up on onto my hand so I can take him to his daily perch. The the African gray (JJ) likes me now, and hasn't bit me all week. And the other African Gray (BG) pooped down my back when walking him around (not a good warm feeling!) |
Oh, TG, it’s going to be an interesting adventure with the birds…

I have never made a true art quilt, it’s on my bucket list.
TG good luck with your bird duties. Sounds like a real adventure Duckling sweet block, can’t wait to make a block In Ukrainian colors |
Janice your quilt block is gorgeous! If I remember correctly, Bibliostone called it Peaceful Home. Something with home in it for sure.
TG, good luck with the birdies, I love the African Gray especially with how intelligent they are. Terri, when do you head back to Texas? |
Cheesehead I think we will be heading back to Texas about Oct 21, that should give us time to enjoy fall here and still leave Minnesota before the snow flies. We bought a house in the next park over and so did my sister. Looking forward to a new adventure. Do you always head South so early
|
Cheesehead, that name sounds familiar. Happy to see you’re joining the group again. I hope you’ve been well. We’ve moved to NC to be nearer the family. Am liking the area a lot. 😀

The last list of participants I saw wasn’t 19. How many are in each group? How many do I ship?
I’m in! Just being in water excites me. Did snorkeling eons ago. I’m willing. And a vacation of snorkeling and quilting…..👍🤿 so much new stuff on here today. Must go investigate. |
I interrupt this program as I have been searching too long, not to post. The block Janice made is called Peaceful Home by Bibliostone. She has instructions posted at https://www.quiltingboard.com/8377501-post678.html and https://www.quiltingboard.com/showpo...&postcount=611 It is similar to Farmer's Wife block #65 called Peaceful Hours. There is a pattern called Star Drops, too. A few other sites for either block - https://coleensspace.blogspot.com/20...ilt-block.html
https://www.rebeccagracequilting.com...ful-hours.html https://www.rebeccagracequilting.com...-peaceful.html Now back to your regularly scheduled program. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. Not affiliated with off-site link(s) |
Never mind. I got it now.
I got the invite to join and can see the group but I don't see where I can actually join the group. Help! |

OurWorkbench, thank you for that info!
Janice, your block is beautiful! I love Peaceful Home too. Thanks to b'stone for sharing it with us. TG, I would love to be keeper of the birds! I hope that macaw stops being so stubborn so he can get to his day perch. Would love to see some pics of the birdies. I am so IN on that Carribean snorkel/quilting retreat! Just say when... I love seeing everyone chatting it up in here! Isn't it fun? |
MJP, just let me know what Island you are on and I'll sailup with my floating sewing room!
I do plan on having a sewing machine - probably two, one for sails and one for quilting/repairs. Two years.... |
Nineteen fat eights almost ready for mailing! No picture taken yet to post. All fabrics are different blenders. I'm still dreaming of St. Lucia as our snorkeling/quilting retreat destination. (Death in Paradise has made it famous but boy does it look great!).
|
travelinggramma; It sounds like an exciting and unpredictable life with those birds. Can't wait to hear about their antics throughout this Boom.
OurWorkbench; Thank you for the links for this block, I have always admired Bibliostone's abilities with quilting. Last night I was rolling around in the floor with my German Shepard, Remy. She accidentally head butted me in the mouth. I have a fat lip the size of a large marble. I really saw stars. The swelling has gone down some this morning, but I will be doing a lot of explaining to my customers today. |

The Christmas fabric is for the 2-month group. The flower and dinosaur fabric are for the 3-month group, think Baby Quilts.

My DH told me I should organize a quilting workshop on a Caribbean island for all of us. Snorkeling in the morning, maybe gentle yoga too. Then quilting in the afternoon. Maybe Jayne could take us sailing to our snorkeling spots.
I sent my fabric off yesterday and I probably should have waited. The fabric is the blackbird fabric in this block. And I didn’t realize my FOCUS FABRIC IS DIRECTIONAL. I included a little bit of the polka dot fabric. Asked for cream as a color for you to use. Don’t try to match that cream exactly, I see it maybe has a tinge of green in it that would be an absolute pain to match. If you need another color use any of the colors in the fabric. I used black. All this is in my note except for the directional part. I modified a pattern from Distinguished Dresdens ( a real pain). But I could have made this Dresden even smaller than I did. Sigh |
Lstew2212 and MJPEncinitas, love your fabrics! I look forward to working with them. The directional fabric might present more of a challenge but boomers are up to it!
I’m babysitting my eldest granddaughter today with DH. We both have head colds that Charlie gave us last week. We’re hoping we don’t pass it back to her but they really needed us today. Spending time outside just in case. And nap time is in a few minutes. mjp, where do I book my holiday? I’m ready. |
Love those fabrics, Lstew.
MJP, directional fabric is ok. I often send directional. People do recognize it and piece accordingly. It's part of the challenge! Love your ideas for the retreat.... sign me up. Janice, sorry you and hubby are under the weather. |
I’d like to join the 3 month group if possible. I wasn’t sure if I had enough fabric, but I had plenty of leftovers from an elephant quilt I made for a friend so I was able to make enough fat 8ths with what I had! :) I’d like to have a new quilt for Spring or perhaps give to my mom, since she likes elephants.

Sent my email with my info in too! :)
This would be my first Boomerang. I've lived in Michigan my whole life, I am a nurse in a sub acute rehab facility, I have no kids, but I do have a fur baby Kitty, who is spoiled. :) I love sewing clothes, quilting, jewelry making, candle making, crocheting animals, hand embroidery.... :) |
I'd like to join. Am I correct in reading that this is open to first timers? I'm rather new to the forum in general, and have been absent a few months since I was working on non-quilting projects. This seems like a good way to get back into the swing of things.
|
Hello polkweed! Yes, the swap is open to first timers. We were all first timers once! Go to post number one of this thread and send the info requested to SewBizGirl, the swap’s host. Signups close on the 10th but I’d get your email in soon! Welcome!

Hi LogCabin82! I love your fabric choices. They’ll make a fun quilt! If you are joining the three month group, I’ll get one of your F8s. Time to put on my thinking cap! Welcome.

I decided to add a 6in square in my baggies because I like the little mice with their flowers with the elephants!

Short bio... well apparently I'm the first dude to sign up for the Boom swap. I live in Georgia, run a small business, and am slowly remodeling my house. Other hobbies are reading, embroidery, and watching bad movies.
