Krystyna, that is a very moving story about your seeing the towers fall. Something like that changes your outlook forever. It effected me that way too. Our daughter was on a bus on the way to the World Trade Center for a field trip. If those attacks had happened one hour later, she would have been there. A lot of the people in our area lost loved ones. (We lived near NYC back then)
I like the pumpkinny / jack-o-lantern / adorable children dressed up & trick or treating part of Halloween. We even dress up one of our dogs becasue it always makes the kids who come to the door laugh. Don't like the gory and macabre part. But that's just me. Okay, i'm caving in here. Sign me up please, but maybe pair me with someone who would like a more Autumn themed type quilt. i'll PM you. |
I forgot to say that I'm in for this one. I sent my info. in and can't wait. This is my Favorite Time of Year!!!!!!

I know how you all feel, here in Oklahoma when Timothy McVeigh bomb the federal building, was to close for comfort, if I had waited 4 days to go to my bank I could of well just as been in that building when it went down because our bank was in that building, and not only that at that time my husband was on recruiting duty for the USMC and there region headquarters was in that building and my husband was in and out of that building often, but it just so happen that the Marine Corps sent my husband to Virgina for some schooling and he was out of the state we lost two Marines that day and a lot of them were injured......
It really hurt to know it was one of our own Americans that brought it down that day, it's hard to believe that he took that building down that day knowing there were children in that building. Just so sad! Donna

It is funny how different traditions and ways of celebrating are around the country....until I was an adult and out of college and working, I never heard of people not celebrating Halloween because of religious reasons. We were ( are) a Christian family and so were our friends and neighbors and we went out trick or treating. It had nothing to do with anything religious for us...it was dressing up in costumes and going to the neighbors houses for candy...we usually would carve a pumpkin a few nights before and put a candle in it and had a few pictures of pumpkins and black cats taped to the window.....at Girl Scouts, we would have bobbing for apples and stuff like that and in junior high in home ec class we would do candy or carmel apples....I do decorate but it's not scary...I have cute ghosts and pumpkins and scarecrows, and even my witch is cute haha.

I am so incredibly excited about this one!! I absolutely love Halloween, the decorating, I love the cutie side of it, not the blood and gore.

We always celebrated Halloween but in our home growing up and with my children we celebrated most holidays. Decorations and family fun. I have nothing but fond memories .. and pray I get many more in the future. I already purchased a huge pumpkin for my front porch. So far no one has come up to eat it YET. No carving that is an instant critter invite. AND I received this amazing pumpkin from a friends garden. I have this one in the livingroom. I love that orange color. THAT SAID I am thinking yes to this swap. I will PM you and to any and all nothing scary and NO spiders blicko can not even say that word without cringing and making wiggly lips. Heck no.. fall, turkeys Hint as well I love them literally all year in my yard.. so I can go fall or halloween easily.

I have to ask your patience if I am not present on the thread as much as I'd like to be ... or a little slow answering PMs.
My aunt, a brilliant professional woman and the family matriarch aged 81 had trouble breathing. Tests were run and she has masses in her lungs and liver. She is not a smoker. As awful as that is, there is an additional problem. She is a hoarder who has filled her duplex to the brim as well as a friend's apartment and several storage facilities. To round things out, she has 16 sick old cats. Major problems figuring out what to do. I am extremely allergic to cats and cannot run into New York City to feed them and clean litter boxes every day so something has to be done. My sisters are dealing with medical decisions and I'm not sure what my aunt will do. This is so sad and such a huge mess. |
Krystyna - so sorry to hear about your Aunt. Prayers for her, you and your family as you deal with this situation.
|
Thanks, Paula. We need all the prayers we can get.
|
I sent you a PM Krystyna to sign up for this.. I definately want a Halloween one.
I just read above about your aunt, and I am so sorry about your aunts medical issues. Sending prayers and hugs. Susan/PinkLotus |
I'm in again!!

Krystyna sorry about your Aunt, prayers being sent.

Have my Halloween top done for October (and it definitely has an Aussie influence). Hope my partner likes my take on Halloween :)
|
Count me in for the Oct exchange. I'm not much on Halloween. We live in a rural area with a very long driveway. I haven't had trick or treaters, here for over 15 years! I don't have any religious barriers or tragic memories holding me back, I guess once the kids left home I just lost interest.
|
k-- call ny spca and have them go rescue the cats. they will probably not press charges due to her current medical problems. there's no reason for the cats to suffer. i wish your aunt and your family the best. prayers for all of you!
will do halloween or not, as you wish. love halloween but get no trick or treaters. this year, however, i am going t or t with olivia! she will be a dalmation. ( in a side note while she was trying on her costume the family female beagle tried to "h..." her. sounds awful, but was really pretty funny. sure made olivia laugh! 8-) |
Krystyna, Sorry about your Aunt. Prayers and hugs. Maybe you can find some foster homes for the cats.
|
Krystyna, I am so sorry about your Aunt. Before I retired and was working for Local Gov, I was for a short stint office manager for local Shelter. The local shelter should pick up the cats and get the ones they can healthy as possible and put them up for adoption. We used to Foster Cats that were either Preggers or Sick until they were ready to adopt, and I was lucky if one of the kids did not want to adopt.
We will be praying for your Aunt, and for your family to help them deal with all the issues involved! |
Thank you everyone for your prayers and wishes about my aunt. She is such a big hearted lady. Sad to say, she has stage four lung cancer which has spread to her liver. I can't help but wonder if all the dander and hair and litter dust had something to do with it. All the cats came from a pet store around the corner that takes in cats and places them in FOSTER care. My aunt got too attached to each one and wouldn't give them up. *sigh*
Just to round out the craziness and stress, I am trying to get inventory together for my first craft fair next Saturday. I don't even have a booth set up! Eeeek! What was I thinking??? |
Krystyna, its wasn't the cat it was just like it is for everyone else, a mystery as to why some of us stay healthy and no issues and others fall apart. I had a liver transplant on april 26th this year, it simply.. failed. My kidneys have failed too waiting for one of those. Healthy as a horse all the time and cats and dust can cause breathing issues if the dander is too extreme but it sounds like it was something much worse. I am sorry for the pain she has to go through. I will also offer up prayers for your Aunt and for all of you.. its often as hard or harder on those who care for us. I know it was for my family.
I am staring at my pumpkins fabric right now.. who would have thought there were so many of them? I have seven of just pumpkins. yipes. Thank you little sister who gifted me with her fabrics. She apparently loved pumpkins. Now to convince her she needs batiks lol |
Sorry to hear about your Aunt Krystyna. I do not llike remembering about the towers falling in NYC. My daughter was in Boston and was suppose to fly on one of the planes that went into the tower. I heard about her buying a $700 dollar ticket and called my niece up to have her husband (A united Airline Pilot) to comp her a ticket. He did but couldn't get the ticket to her until after 9 a.m so she would not be able to take the earlier flight. Her daddy was dying of cancer and wanted to see her one last time. she had already spent the month of August with him and so when all this happened it hit her so hard with survivors guilt. I know several people here in CA who lost loved ones in the towers and I sometimes feel guilty that my loved one didn't get on that plane but also blessed and thankful that she didn't.

Wow such profound memories .. we are a united group here, it is apparent that nothing has escaped us no matter how far apart we all are. I am thankful for the support here that everyone shares. Its amazing.
Ok to be completely an emotional void, I am waking up now two days in a row dreaming about my DQ. Night before, it was beautifully pinned all gorgeous and ready for quilting. .uh.. not finished yet so that was a good dream.. and this morning barely can open my eyes in bed because well, I had figured out the corner blocks of the quilt and they looked so pretty which I havent.. good reason I didnt want to get up. Now I sit at the table quickly using my meager internet speed of 11 mbps and hoping I can get all my posts in argh before its gone. Four more blocks and its done.. ok today is the due date in my head so here I go.. dun dun dun dun dunnn dun dun dun dun dun dun... its halloween I can sing if I want to.. oh wait early that starts in one more day sorry guys |
Yes, we certainly do have a lot of support here and I am so grateful for that.
Linda, it seems that your muse is at work helping you with your quilt! Did everyone get their September quilts out??? |
