Spring 2013 PS squares- 1.5"- Swap- Sign ups close April 15, 2013

This swap is for 1.5" squares (postage stamps) in sets of 50 different 100% cotton fabrics. Please send what you would like to receive. Limit is 20 sets per swapper.

*Please send me a PM to sign up, and let me know how many sets you'd like to swap.

*Please use quality 100% cottons only! NO flannel, NO homespun, NO blends. If in doubt of fiber content, please leave it out!

*All sets do not need to be identical. You can use any 100% cottons in your stash!

*Please MAKE SURE to trim off selvages before cutting your squares. Also try to be accurate in your cutting of the squares, so they DO measure 1.5". Rotary cutting these does help with accuracy. :)

*Please double check that your sets have 50 (or more) squares in them! We don't want to short change anyone.
Also check that there are 50 DIFFERENT fabrics.

*It seems to work best to put the squares into small, snack size baggies. Be sure to label each baggie with your name, board name, etc.

Sign-ups close April 15, 2013. Sets are due to me by April 30th. I will swap them out, and get them in the mail no later than May 8th.
** International folks, please mail 10 days earlier! To make sure I get them in time.**
For mailing:
Most folks have been sending in stamps, m.o. or cash for a PADDED flat rate envelope ($5.95). It does make things a lot easier, and no worries about bulky packages. Delivery Confirmation is included. I can supply these envelopes, they are free from usps.com.
NO pre-paid printed postage! They are dated, and my P.O. does not accept it!
If you choose to send a different envelope, please, please make sure there is plenty of postage $ for it. An extra stamp, or such wouldn't hurt. These packages are "bulky" and get considered a "parcel", per my Post Office. They charge more for that.
If your sets cost more than what you sent in, I have no choice to hold them until I get the difference. In the last swap, I had several that were "over". It all adds up. Thanks for your understanding.

Please feel free to mail your sets early, if you wish.

General rules for swaps: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a PM.

nurse bonnie 02-13-2013 09:46 PM

OMGosh!! I am sooooo ready to do this again. Need some else to do to keep my mind occupied cuz I found out Monday, I have to have surgery on my knee again. It will make the 4th operation in 3 years. Knee replacements are not all they are cut out to be. By the time they get it right, I will be eligible to social security!! lol Thank you for keeping us motivated with our little ps gems to share with others.

Grandma Di 02-14-2013 11:27 AM

Holy kamoly Mariposa, thought my eyes were failing me! I'm in. I think I have enough for my quilt but I still have quite a few already cut. I did more cutting last summer than sewing. I might as well swap them out. I'll check to see how many sets I have and email you this weekend.

SheriR 02-14-2013 09:53 PM

I'm laughing. I was going to volunteer you for this swap, but you are faster than I am..

HI Honchey! Nice to have you along again! :)

Evie 02-16-2013 10:34 AM

If anyone is interested in a project where you can use at least a few of your pretty little postage stamps, check out this mystery quilt at: http://www.karensayssew.blogspot.com/ . I've copied the instructions but haven't started sewing, but it looks nice so far. Only four steps, the last one will be posted next week. Also uses 2-1/2" squares for those collecting that size.

Mariposa 02-16-2013 11:30 AM

Thanks for sharing this, Evie! :) Looks fun!

marytoddliz 02-16-2013 11:50 AM

Thanks for the blog post, I might have to try it, at least big enough for a table runner! I have found that I truly like to just collect them. I started cutting all my scraps into use-able blocks about a year ago, so now I have scraps of lots of different sizes, not sure what I will ever make with them, but they sure store a lot better than bags of scraps!

sustraley 02-17-2013 09:19 AM

Mine are ready to go. Babysat my grandson last night. He went to bed at 8 so I had lots of time to do my PS before his mom and dad got home from their "date". They rarely go out so I am glad they had a good time and I got my cutting and everything ready to go.

Mariposa 02-17-2013 10:17 AM

sustraley-- you are really ahead of things! Way to go!!

barri1 02-17-2013 12:34 PM

You guys are really way ahead of me, but I went to the LQS, and picked up a bunch of scraps to cut up. These are all new fabrics to me, so hopefully they will be to those that get my packets..

goldendog55 02-17-2013 06:28 PM

I PMd you.

I needed to get something bigger to put all my 1.5 and 2.5 swap pieces in that I have received. Might as well use the FREE boxes from the post office.

Hi all..
I have a question.. Was reading articles about using a technique with fusable interface, and sewing postage stamp quilts. It's supposed to make it come together faster. There is a draw back regarding making it to rigid, or bulky... I'm not opposed to doing it the way it has always been done, but I'm always interested in different techniques. Does anyone know of a thinner interface ? Does anyone have any thoughts on it?

goldendog55 02-25-2013 08:28 PM

What you're talking about is about as thin as you can go. They have squares printed on them, you place your fabric in the squares, iron them on, and stitch across each row from the back. You then clip those seams and sew in the opposite direction. It is faster, and will add bulk, so you can either just sew the back on with a piece of fabric or flannel in between, or you could use a very thin batting.

Honchey 02-26-2013 07:42 AM

Hi All, Using the preprinted square fusible would be good for wall hangings...I think I will try that technique..I know I have some somewhere ...would cutting along the folded seam after it being sewn make it more flexible?? I wonder??
I haven't done much sewing with the PS..just a few strips...I'm thinking of making blocks the same size as using 2.5" squares and incorporating both in a quilt...will have to see....

Wardy74 03-02-2013 01:59 PM

I am going to join in. There is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that I want to make that has oodles of !.5" squares so this would be great for that. I will pm with number of sets.

goldendog55 03-02-2013 07:19 PM

I;m also making a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her strip book. It's a 5" pineapple block using 1.5" and 2". Only 12,000 pieces. Really fun to make! Also a quilt that uses blocks that are made from same colors for another quilt.

*Thanks Judy! :)

booklady 03-02-2013 10:01 PM

Mariposa! I'm in again. I was cutting some fat quarters for a swap at our guild retreat so I decided to cut some postage stamps at the same time. I've got my squares ready to go!!!!!! I even have my flat rate envelopes ready! Now I just need to put a reminder in my phone so I don't forget to mail them. Thanks for all your hard work.

Mariposa 03-03-2013 07:12 AM

booklady- good to have you joining again! You can mail your package any time.

marytoddliz 03-03-2013 02:49 PM

I was cutting my ps squares along with the 2.5 squares at the same time. Now I have a question for you all, does it matter if I use the same fabric for both swaps? I see a lot of the people are the same on both swaps and figured I better check? any one have anything to add?

It is funny but I take my cutter a small cutting board and the bag of scraps with me when I go visit Mom, I get a lot done and she loves to see all the different fabrics. She never was one to sew so doesn't get it! But loves the stuff I make. I guess my Grandmother on my Mom's side could sew, but it was not her favorite thing to do. My Grandmother had 6 sisters and there was always someone doing some kind of sewing she said. She was born in 1900 and was one of the most interesting people in my life. She died in 1991 and when my Aunt Died a few years ago gave me her Diaries. Since I am the "writer" and "Geek" in the family my Aunt thought I could transcribe her Journals/Diaries and put them on a family page to share with all. I still haven't done that!Maybe I should start a blog and start doing that!

Wardy74 03-03-2013 10:18 PM

I am in both swaps and would not bother me personally if I had the same fabrics in 2.5 and 1.5" inches. That is my humble opinion.
