Winter 2019 I Spy Swap

Have missed having an I Spy Swap? Let’s swap again. I have missed communicating with each of you!

Swaps need to be in my hands by February 28, 2019.

Please take your time cutting and be sure you have correct 5" squares. Let’s have all good squares this time.
Cutting Packaging Info
We will be sending 10 different fabrics in each bag we swap. All your bags can have the same mixture in them, or different, but you cannot repeat fabrics in any one bag. We will be swapping bag for bag, so there must be 10 different fabrics in each bag. Please put your board name and state on every bag you are swapping. For instance, "rbwiese TN" for mine...

You may swap in groups of 8 bags. Some have expressed wanting more sets of bags, so I am removing the upper limit – but each one must use a different set of 10 fabrics. You will get 8 - 5" squares in one width of fabric, providing your print does not require fussy cutting. If it does, you may get fewer cuts out your yardage. Please fussy cut if your print requires it. Send the kind of nice squares you hope to receive. Anything less than 8 is not cost-effective for you (shipping). Also – please limit licensed prints and holiday prints to 1 per baggie. Depending on participation, you may receive duplicate bags. I try to do my best to eliminate them, but it may happen.

The Ususal 'Stuff':
1. Send what you would like to receive, quality-wise. Send only 100% cotton quilting fabric. Please do not send thin or loosely woven fabrics. If it has to be starched to be acceptable, it's probably not a good fabric for this swap.

2. Try and find new prints you have not sent before or seen in the swap, if at all possible. We all like new stuff! Please select prints that would be acceptable in a child's quilt. No flowers, lines, stars, geometrics, batiks. We need recognizable objects. If I find unusable fabrics in your baggies, I will return all to you unswapped.

3. Then, pm me (rbwiese) and tell me you want to join and how many bags you intend to swap. I need your real name and address. I will respond to you with my mailing address for you to mail your swaps to me.

4. Put all your swap baggies in one big ziplock with your name and mailing address, as well as your board name. That will keep them together in your package and if it happens to get torn open in shipment, your address will be there for the P.O. to return to you. Speaking of "torn open"... those paper flat rate envelopes are the pits. They tear so easily, especially with lumpy contents in them. Do yourself a favor and use something better-- like the Tyvek envelopes or PFRE. You have to order the latter from the post office online, in packages of 10, but they are free. If you do it NOW, you will have your envelopes in time to mail.

5. Postage: I will be using the PFRE. Postage has risen again. It now costs $7.55 for the padded flat rate envelope. I have a supply of the PFRE, but please include a Self Addressed Label.
If you want to use an alternative envelope method, please put the postage on the envelope and enclose the self-addressed envelope to me.

Remember to send in what you would like to receive back.
Let’s have tons of fun, and of course you have to follow all the basic QB swap rules, found here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

Edited and reposted.

Looking forward to this swap - health has kept me sidelined for a while. Hope things will continue to look up there also.

Have some new fabrics, can't pass a cute one by.....

bkay 01-27-2019 01:13 PM

I'm in Rena. I'll do two sets.

Glad to hear you are better. If you need help with with something, PM me.

We have 4 participants so far - good showing on a weekend! Put the word out - I will PM past participants tomorrow.

moonrise 01-27-2019 11:00 PM

Hi Rena! Nice to see you posting. :) I plan to join. Will have to let you know how many sets when I get a chance. :)

Queenbarbiej 01-28-2019 12:43 PM

rbwiese I would like to join. I will pm you my info. Are we suppose tom have all I-spy fabric or is it any fabric of our choice?

moonrise 01-29-2019 03:10 AM

Okay, PM sent. :) I've got 16 sets ready to go. I've bought a few box lots of fabric recently, and there were quite a few fabrics inside that I've never seen before. Snow skiers, vintage Valentines, vintage bunny rabbits, trains, frogs, lions and lionesses, little girls with curly pink hair, precious little mice on pink plaid (also vintage, I think), cute babies playing with toys, an owl print that I've never seen before, swans, etc. :)

bkay 01-29-2019 07:27 AM

I'm looking forward to seeing them, Lisa.

Macybaby 01-29-2019 07:36 AM

I enjoyed the last I Spy swap, however I pulled everything suitable from my stash for that, so don't have anything "new" to share.

bkay 01-29-2019 07:56 AM

Cathy, you don't have to have a new set each time. For one thing, swappers change. The people in this swap are not necessarily the same ones as the last swap. Then, there are people who use duplicates. Those can be used for crafts like Lisa (Moonrise) does. There is also an I spy quilt that uses duplicates, which generally is just called a "matching game". The kid has to find the squares that match. Younger kids can use the one with exact duplicate charms. The older kids probably should have a matching game where there are, say, two dog charms or two butterfly charms, but they aren't exact duplicates. Then there are others who make donation quilts, so they can just use that charm on another quilt. Then, there are the swappers who just like to swap I spy charms. Just one more of a certain fabric won't bother them one way or another.

So, please join if you would enjoy it.

Welcome Queenbarbiej - this swap is for all I Spy fabrics. The 8 sets can be cut from a fat quarter or linear quarter of fabric. Here is a place I love that sells as small as a fat quarter - 4my3boyz

I was wondering if any of these fabrics be okay for the I spy swap. Please let me know which one(s) will not work. Thanks for any help.

Queenbarbiej 01-30-2019 07:26 AM

Rbwiese thanks for the website suggestion. That site can make you spend, spend, spend. They have fabrics that I haven't seen.

redstilettos 01-30-2019 08:11 AM

I'm shopping with my daughter this weekend, and if I "happen" to find more spy-worthy material I'll be in. (hehehe) I'll let everyone know by Sunday.

queenbarbiej: my personal $0.02, which is only worth half of that, is the deer heads would certainly be okay, the quack is iffy, but no to the cammo? Ladies? You're more on top of this than I am. Can we help our friend out?

Now I'm getting a spy itch.....

sewhappyinSF 01-30-2019 12:13 PM

Good to hear from you! Would love to join the swap - count me in for 2 sets!

Regarding fabric choices, my mantra has always been "is the fabric fun/appealing to young children" and will the parent appreciate the quality of the fabric? Hope that helps.

I would agree. :) I've always considered I Spy squares to be "tangible objects" like turtles, owls, shoes, paint brushes, etc.

Come on and play, Red! >>twists your arm<< :D

Queenbarbiej 01-31-2019 04:15 AM

So far I have 2 sets done. Hopefully by this weekend I will have at least 4 more sets.

rbwiese 01-31-2019 06:38 AM

Now I'm getting a spy itch.....[/QUOTE]

I have had it for a few months! Trying to scratch it...seeing if I can handle it now!

rbwiese 01-31-2019 06:44 AM

Sorry to go MIA yesterday - had an early dental appt on a problem crown, ended up having to pull the tooth. My immune system is so compromised a dental infection continuing was going to be a real problem. So I was on pain pills and went to bed - but am better this morning. And it is too cold for ice packs!

Ladies, keep hunting for I Spy fabs and jump on in!

Queenbarbiej 01-31-2019 09:09 AM

I didn't have much I spy fabric so I ordered some from 4my3boyz.com. It should be here tomorrow hopefully. If I does then I will have all weekend to cut my I spy fabric. Right now I had enough for 2 sets.

redstilettos 01-31-2019 09:54 AM

jeez rb....take care of that! I'm in the middle of the two-part crown process, too. Yuck!

Queenbarbiej 02-01-2019 04:44 AM

I went home last night and looked through all my fabric. I had enough for 5 sets. My new I spy fabric should be here today. Yeah fabric!!!!!!! I know what I will be doing tonight. Cutting more I spy squares.

I have 14 sets ready to mail on monday.

marcialee 02-03-2019 01:55 AM

I am going to look to see what I can come up with. I never did this swap before, but I have a large Ispy lot, so I should be able to join in ok. I will get back to you soon.

Wow! You have 112 bags of charms ready to go? Boy, I'm just a piker with my 2 sets. Be sure and label them set 1, set 2, etc. It will make it tons easier for Rena.

bkay

Queenbarbiej 02-04-2019 04:30 AM

Maybe I said it wrong bkay, I have 14 bags of 10 different fabrics. If 14 is too many I can take some out?

Of course not. Don't worry about it. You can probably rearrange the charms to work. The I Spy group has done the swap a certain way for a while. Redstillettos did her I Spy swap like she has done her all of her 5" charm swaps. The "old rules" for I Spy, which Rena is using was used prior to her illness and is the one the previous host of I spy swaps used.

A "set" of charms is 8 bags of 10 charms. The charms in each bag must be 10 different fabrics. A set can have all the same 10 fabrics in each bag, or they can be different. If you want to swap more than one set of 8, the second set should be a totally different from set 1. You can swap as many "sets" as you would like, as long as each set is unique. Label each set as set 1, set 2, etc. This process gives more variety to the charms you receive.

Just rearrange your charms. It will be fine.

redstilettos 02-04-2019 09:38 AM

Well I went shopping and didn't find a whole lot of anything different or interest sparking.

I might be going up to my cabin where my sewing stuff is this weekend. So unless I have more in my stash I can use, I might be sitting this one out :(

Stay tuned....

Queenbarbiej 02-04-2019 09:51 AM

Red I mailed off my Ispy fabrics. I PM'D you the tracking number.

Would love to have you join in.
