Here are some things I've made in the past The red one is all diff reds.
I sold my stuff to a gift shop in Kalona Iowa for 12 yrs. My hotpads were my best seller. So I made aLOT of them. The owner preferred the scrappy look so I did alot of scrappy stuff for her in 12 yrs.

One of my tricks of the trade was to have strips sewn together into sets of border strips. I tried not to repeat the same fabric as much as possible. I like variety. I kept these strips as resource. Then when I needed a border I could pull those out and use them. I did sets of 4 border strips.
If you have some things partially done you can set them aside for any project that you might want something quickly.
I have HSTs made ahead and other of my shortcut blocks. I tend to like light/dark contrast so I have organizers full of these.
Any other suggestions anyone? Any tips or tricks you use?

I don't use anything special. I use Fairfield batting low loft. I get it at Walmart. and I use two layers. When I started selling to Joette she and I talked about batting and this is the way she and I decided to go. it is a thickly woven batting and yet thin in width. so it's not fluffy and it works just fine with the heat. I back the hotpad with a corresponding color cotton fabric. I tried the cotton kind but it doesn't work for me. I know this is poly but I have used it for many years now. Never had any complaints and I probably sold around 900 hotpads over 12 yrs and have made many for gifts in the last 5 yrs or so.
