Comic board wrapped with fabric.
 

I KNOW there are MANY people here who wrap their fabric
on comic boards, and so do I.

I am TRYING to get my fabric all wrapped on the comic boards
so I can start working on my storage shelving that I intend to build
in the fabric room. I REALLY (in the worst of ways) need to get all
my fabric back into the room I have for it and get all the other junk
out of that room.

Just thought I would share a few photos of my "labeling"
my yardage and such.

For fabrics that are 20" and less (I also have many F8's that are wof)
I cut my comic boards in half length wise.

I made/printed labels using return address labels. Than I take neon
colored index cards that I got at Dollar Tree cut them into quarters.
Stick one label to the "blank" (unlined) side of the cards.

If I have a group of fabrics I intend to use together I tie 2 ply cotton
yarn around the bundle to keep them together.

Now granted I KNOW some people may not agree with my
"methods" for labeling and such but it works for ME.

Wow, that's organized! I thought I was doing well to get my fabrics on boards.:D

Nothing wrong with sharing fabric storage tips. All is appreciated. Some may not work for others but there will be the tiniest tip that some one will run with. I use comic boards all the time. I usually just pin a post it note on the fabric to let me know how much is there atleast a yard goes on a comic board. I put as much as 3 yards on a board. If more I use another board and clip to the first on the board not the fabric. If I have much more than that i have the bolt boards the fabric came on. Fabric Iget from estate/garage sales if atleast a yard go on comic boards also. Smaller pieces (scrap size) go into scrap boxes (clear).

I sure wish I was that organized. I really get tired of hauling totes out and digging thru them. I hear so many people talking about comic boards but I have no idea where to get them - or their cost - can you give me any advice on that?

I wish I could be as organized as you! Any chance you want to come and "play" in someone else's stash for a while?

I am a little bit concerned about the paper clips. I've had them get rusty and stain things.

Get the vinyl or plastic coating paper clips

I love my boards, It took me over a year to finally find all my fabric and get it wrapped. Got what I thought was all wrapped in about 3 days of stop and go work. It seemed like every time I cleaned or went looking for something else I found fabric I forgot I had. LOL I do not label yardage but know with the size of my boards 3 wraps equals about a yard, nice to be able to take a focal fabric and just hold it up to a shelf and get a really go idea about what to use with it.

I found the size I used (about 8x10 or 12) to be rather flimsy. Still, the shelves look really good! Still have to figure out how to get more square footage into the room so I can add more shelves!

look up comic book stores in your area, that is where I get mine at.
Or you can get them at amazon.com if you don't have a local CB store.

ME come play in YOUR stash? Heck I am trying to find someone to come
"play" in my 58 quart size bin (all 53+ bins to closer to the truth).

The paperclips I use are made from low-carbon steel with a anti rust
coating on them. From the testing I have done as long as I don't get
these paper clips in bleach or water for more than 10 minutes they
won't rust. Believe me THAT was my first worry about the paper clips.

NO I am NOT that organized........ YET but I hope to be someday. But
there are still over 53 bins of fabric to fold, and that is not counting the
various sizes of other plastic bins, cardboard boxes, and reusable shopping
bags still full of fabric.
