Final modifications to studio, submitted to builder!

1 Attachment(s)
Thank you for all the suggestions to my original layout plan for my upcoming studio. I made several revisions, and the plan was delivered to the builder yesterday! We'll get a final bid in a couple of weeks, and I hope to break ground in about a month, yippee!

This plan doesn't show the design wall, but there is one along the left wall, in the area above the Armoire. It will be 8'x8'.

All the windows are on the north and east sides. Also, I plan to build a portable ironing surface for the work island, as well as having the smaller one between sewing machines.

Oh you might want to put in a utility sink in the bathroom. In case you decide to dye or treat bleeding fabric.

Julie R 06-13-2013 02:22 PM

This looks awesome! I don't think I would ever leave. Congratulations and be sure to post pics along the way.

trish b 06-13-2013 02:22 PM

It looks wonderful. I'm redoing a 12'X12' room for my sewing needs.

leaha 06-13-2013 02:36 PM

really looks good to me, hope you enjoy!!

It is a utility sink :) In my notes to the builder.

lots2do 06-14-2013 02:50 AM

This has got to be very exciting for. You! How did you make your blueprint for the new room? I'd like to try it out.

christinetindell 06-14-2013 03:06 AM

How bout a daybed and a shower? Just sayin. I'd never want to leave!

Don't forget the Mini fridge and Microwave just to keep your energy levels up!!

darlenedowns 06-14-2013 04:48 AM

The hardest part is when its finished and you have to go to work! Like quilt, quilt, sew, sew and best of all keeping it clean for the next project which starts in 10 minutes!

SimpsonFrances 06-14-2013 05:02 AM

You are one lucky quilter. This is going to be so awesome! It is probably the best well planned studio I've seen! Hope you put locks on the doors (on the inside!) so you can disappear forever!

How nice to be able to plan your sewing room, right from an empty shell! Lucky You!
I didn't look at your earlier drawing, but here's some thoughts, late as they may be!

* if you're planning to use it as an utility sink ... you might want a larger room to allow for space to work, and set things to the side as you work.
* you mentioned your design wall was above the armoire ... when using, you may prefer to not have the armoire in the way, for easy access for placing of blocks or assembled sections of a quilt ... or even a whole quilt.
* you can't go wrong with a larger design wall! Mine is 10 ft x 7ft and I've never regretted it, as I can have more than one project on at a time and have even had fully assembled quilts on, til they were quilted. I do have the full 8 ft to the floor, but kept the wall above the plugs, to save fitting around them.
* indeed, add an easy chair or small couch to get comfy in, when doing hand sewing that takes time!

Good Luck ... and have FUN with the process!

Be sure to include wiring for overhead lighting and plenty of wall outlets. The older I get the more light i need.
How many amp electrical service panel are you considering?
Can't wait to see finished studio.

nstitches4u 06-14-2013 05:29 AM

LynnVT 06-14-2013 11:05 AM

Fabulous plan! You have obviously figured everything out to suit your needs, and don't need any advice (at least not from me.) Just enjoy!!

craftynell 06-14-2013 11:23 AM

I like this floor plan the best.

cjtinkle 06-14-2013 11:45 AM

The design wall is "above" the armoire in the photo, it will actually be to the side of it. That space (3 feet) isn't enough for anything else, and there's room for it to be 10'x12' if I prefer. Hubby will build it for me afterwards.

No room for a larger bathroom. My original design didn't include one as we were going to build right next to the house, but it got moved out into our orchard, about 300 feet from the house, so I had to chop down everything to squeeze the bathroom in.

I can't answer you on the amperage. We'll be tying into my hubby's shop which is on it's own meter, 220 service. I WILL be having separate breakers for both ironing stations and each work station. I'm going to put a ton of can lights in the ceiling, with daylight spectrum florescent bulbs in them. I have them in my kitchen and love them. They'll not only be around the perimeter of the room, but over each work area and in the closet.

Tweetie 06-15-2013 03:53 AM

You could possibly use a small apartment size fridge and coffeepot to entertain guests or take a break?
