What a wonderful re- purposed piece of furniture, and a creative DH, lucky you!

Great find......we never have enough space to store!!

bepositive 11-12-2011 07:48 PM

great idea - pretty too!

Buttons922 11-13-2011 03:41 AM

Cool idea. I may steal it. We are fulltime RVer's and this idea could work wonderfully. Thanks for sharing!

what a great ifra too bad my room is too small to hold one

sunrise450 11-13-2011 06:43 AM

That is lovely. What a great idea! Looks like your DH is a keeper!

Steady Stiching 11-13-2011 07:06 AM

Reuse, Renew, Reycycle.....great job!! I have a similar set up except my refound item was a simple folding table that my girls used as a makeup table...I like yours much better : )

j 11-13-2011 07:20 AM

That is a great idea. I have a TV credenza with no Tv in it but a record player and radio (which my husband still doesnt want to part with) trying to figure out how to use that and put it in the dining room where I sew. Need to think about this. - J

Very clever Hubby. J J

Great idea!!! I love it...Naomi

I have "temporarily" moved my sewing room downstairs to be close if my DH needs me. Was thinking of getting stuff moved back upstairs in time for Thanksgiving dinner but now will re-think that idea. love the extra storage idea, maybe I should go hunting for a new china hutch!!!

Want to know what's funny? I have one almost exactly like that I'm trying to get rid of! I thought it would be perfect for a cutting table, but it's a bit too low. But you're right... the cat can't knock it over!! Congrats on your great find. And nope, can't have too much storage.

Could you add wheels or legs to raise cabinet. Maybe add a base. space is valuable to lose.

Is there a way that you can build up from the bottom? Perhaps build a base to set it on. (Just a simple box-type base)

JanieH 11-13-2011 11:31 AM

What a great idea! Wish I had a place to put one.

caspharm 11-13-2011 12:30 PM

Nice cutting table.

Suggestions for raising it: as others said, use wheels. I used wooden bed risers that I bought at Bed, Bath, & Beyond to raise my cutting table.

CruisingStef 11-13-2011 12:54 PM

What a find! And the extra space. You did a great job covering it. Thanks for the idea.

Caswews 11-13-2011 01:12 PM

Now you know Kitty will find a nice soft spot on it.. test it out .. and then you will know !!!! At least all of the previous cats had been that way that we ever had !LOL
Congrats on the re-purposing of furniture- I try to do that every chance I get.
I took a holder for CD's and that is now my nice and tidy thread holder !

QuiltswithConvicts 11-13-2011 01:52 PM

Lovely idea. I have a home-made big board & the kitty doesn't trip over it, she sleeps on it & yacks up furballs on it! I bought a large piece - 2 yards of clear plastic at Walmart to use as a cover when I'm not ironing. This way, it's safe from her. She's 17 YO & rules the house.

janiesews 11-14-2011 04:47 AM

Great idea!

onaemtnest 11-14-2011 05:09 AM

What a wonderful re-purposing of a piece of furniture AND extra storage space to boot!

Kutnso 11-14-2011 06:07 AM

Great idea and the board looks wider than a normal one. Double duty piece of furniture is great.
Enjoy, Kutnso

unclefreckles 11-14-2011 06:30 AM

what a great idea.

BrendaK 11-14-2011 07:19 AM

 Very good idea. Wish I had the space for something like that. BrendaK

My sewing room is also my bedroom and I was running out of space for the ironing board after a friend gave me a very nice desk for my other machine. Looking around WM one day I found an ironing board that hangs from a door and fold up. It is now safely hung on my closet door when not in use--have to close it up to get to clothes and stash!lol

RUSewing 11-14-2011 01:53 PM

You've inspired me - I want one made from an old table so I can sit down!

KimS 11-14-2011 05:18 PM

Great idea!

jeanharville 11-14-2011 05:40 PM

I wish I had enough space in my sewing room for a large ironing surface. Well, maybe someday it will happen :>)

penski 11-14-2011 08:10 PM

wow that looks great

jitkaau 11-15-2011 03:45 AM

I want something like this as a cutting board, so perhaps if the ironing board suited a dual purpose?......

I put two plastic milk "cartoon" cases under my old desk. My kids used them in college to store "stuff". They are hard , sturdy and about 4 inches or so high. Worked perfectly... but not so pretty. Some day I will paint them, but usually no one notices them.

Cookie64 11-16-2011 07:15 AM

MaryAnnMc,

You could place clocks under it to make it higher.

Since I posted this picture my husband cut a piece of hardboard to the exact size of my cutting board so I can use it on top of the ironing board. It isn't fastened down so I can lift it off when I need to.

valleyquiltermo 11-16-2011 08:23 AM

You could put risers under your cutting table Like I did, works great.

That's ingenious!
No the iron won't be wobbled off that table and it's multi-tasking!

CLMQuilter 11-16-2011 11:56 AM

I love it great idea
