My sewing space before and after
6 Attachment(s)
For years my guest room has served double duty as my sewing space. It's only a 10x10 room which is really small compared to some of the spaces I've seen on this and other sites but it's all I've got and my Momma always said make the most out of what you've got, so that's what I did.
I was using a Big Board as my cutting table and also my pressing board. And I was making queen size quilts on a tiny table barely big enough to hold my machine. So I did some research and watched a few youtube DIY videos and came up with a better plan. When I had it all drawn out (stick man style) I showed my dh and he got right on it. This is how my cutting table looks today. I still have my big board for pressing large pieces of material but I use the little board hanging on the left side of the pegboard for pressing seams. And this is my new sewing table. Oh and my stash use to be stuck in closets and drawers and any place else I could find to stuff a yard of fabric. But now it lives in the two cabinets on either side of the sewing table. And when the grandchildren come to spend the night it turns back into a guest room. The daybed with a trundle bed underneath sleeps 2 to 4 depending on their sizes. And the sewing table folds up to make room for the trundle bed. I love my sewing space and I've made several quilts since the transformation. |
I love what you have done with your room. Mine has a Murphy bed that folds into the wall, which is very nice but I love the functioning wall units you have.

What a great idea! Looks fantastic.

You are so clever!

You and your husband have a wonderful talent. By working together, you have come up with ingenious solutions. Your sewing room is fabulous. I don't know how you actually did before. But kudos to you for making it work. Enjoy your new space!!

I'm very impressed with your clever room makeover. You really put your noggins together and made a better space that is more functional and a play room for all of you now!
|
You had some great ideas - the room is lovely.
|
Oh my goodness! Amazing use of space. Very pretty
|
You did a fabulous job of redoing your space. Looks very user friendly.
|
Well done!
|
Amazing the way you have made it dual purpose takes a lot of thought and imagination, well done.

Great idea using the base of the trundle bed for a cutting table base. I may have to do some measuring and thinking on that one! Right now I have one the folding craft tables like JAF sells in the middle of the room. I also use it for a large pressing surface. It's a tad too high for me to cut comfortably but it's manageable. Will have to see what possibilities might exist with the trundle bed set up as I have a similar one in my sewing room.

That is a fantastic use of space! Have fun with it!

I'm so impressed with your creativity for making the most of your beautiful space!!! It's almost like magic...now you see it, now you don't :)

You must feel great joy in spending time in that wonderfully arranged space. My sewing room is on the lower level of the house and is a walk out area so it is light and bright and I love it. I am sure you will also! And, to think, it is fairly easy to convert to grandkid space. Love your decorations.
|
Nicely done. You are very creative and resourceful. Enjoy your new room.
|
Brilliant.
Thanks so much for sharing! :) |
Very nice I love it, Good use of space
|
What a delightful room! Love what you and your dh did!
|
that is fantastic

Who says a space has to be huge to be wonderful! The room actually looks better with all your sewing conveniences installed. Good job!
|
You and your DH get first prize for best use of space available. Each idea is totally clever in itself. By doing it this way, you have actually locked away some of the tools that grand kids might get into. And cleverly disguised the tables as decorative. You could sell this information to some sewing/quilting/crafts magazine. Congrats.

I’m so impressed! What a great idea to cover your trundle bed with a cutting table. Lovely room.
|
You are so clever!!!!!!!!! I'm sure you're having so much fun playing in that beautiful room.

Thank you all for your comments. We really enjoyed putting it all together. And now I spend more time in there than any other room in the house. The two storage cabinets were purchased from Home Depot, but the cutting table and the sewing table were made from scratch using stain grain wood. If anyone is interested I have pictures of the construction as it progressed that I could post. It really helps to have a handy dh and mine is very hand. I'm truly blessed.

Wow! I love these ideas. But I have to ask, off-topic... how are those dolls being held up on the wall?! I have some vintage dolls I'd love to put up in my sewing room.
|
wonderful results, brilliant building right over the daybed. Since your husband is handy, have him make a dropdown box to hold the machine. my sewing took a huge jump in precision with a smooth feed through rather than working with a hump.
Make the hole a little bigger than your machine so it will fit anything you might want to stick in there, and use the Janome Acrylic to go over and fit your machine snugly. |
Great and three thumbs up. It is also very neat and tidy.
|
An impressive and creative make-over! Here's to many happy hours playing in your new space!
|
Really really really like what you did! Now go sew lol
|
WOW....WOW....WOW....super nice job!!!! and I luv the wall deco on the underside of your cutting table...nice touch!!!!
