Maybe you could pin a ziploc bag into each section and keep the directions in there.

Each sling started out just about square at 20" x 19". The Timtex I had was 20" wide, and most of the rolls of freezer paper, etc that I wanted to store were about 18" so I decided to just use the width of the Timtex for the width of the slings. I settled on 19" for the length to cut the Timtex so that I would have plenty of wiggle room to be able efficiently use a single WOF (width of fabric) cut for each sling.

As others have suggested, the size of this project could be varied to accommodate storing things other than freezer paper rolls, so do what works for you. The overall length was designed to be just the right length to clear the top of my quilting table enough so that I hope it won't interfere when there's a quilt "in progress" on the table. I spaced the slings evenly over the length of the backing, and that came out to be about 6 3/4 inches between each one.

Is anyone interested in a tutorial on this? It would be fun to do one if anyone wants it. :D

Yes, I would like to see a tute

Wow! What a clever idea. You should send your idea to some quilting magazines. It would probably be published.

I've been organizing my sewing studio and decided to make use of some vertical space for storing all those patterns and quilting designs I've drawn on freezer paper. So...I made this today and tacked it up beside my new quilting table. Seems like this would work well for other things on rolls like embroider stablizer too...

I used quilting fabric and Timtex to make this. The back is one pannel of Timtex covered with fabric on both sides. I made tubular slings of quilting fabric also stiffened with Timtex and sewed them across the top to the back pannel. The whole thing is about 36" long and 20" wide.

Wendy

What an awesome idea. I have so many oddly shaped supplies.
What a great way to get them off needed shelf space and off the floor and out of drawers.

Great idea! Thanks.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I just rearranged my sewing room yesterday and was trying to think of a better way of storing my fusibles and interfacings etc...this is a great idea!! Thanks for sharing it :)

Only because I HAD to clean it up and put everything away while I built the tables! LOL (It's not that way any more!!!)

Great idea. You have found the perfect solution. Do you have any other ideas for storage? I am very limited on my space.
thanks, Diane

Lucy90 05-01-2011 01:13 PM

Great idea and I may just use it. Thanks for the creativity

roxie623 05-01-2011 01:14 PM

Like this one better than the one Nancy's Notions has. Your tube area is larger and your colors are a lot prettier. Great idea!

Sandyb 05-01-2011 01:20 PM

I like that for organizing. What is Timtex?

quiltaroni 05-01-2011 01:20 PM

Timtex is a really heavyweight interfacing. Any heavyweight interfacing will do.

Matilda 05-01-2011 03:19 PM

Very nice. I am going to do something like this. I am glad that I saw yours and read you used Timtex. I hadn't thought of using a stiffener but I see it makes a difference. Yours looks great!
