Thanks Lilrain-I'm a washaholic. I was everything before I use it, touch it etc!! But I agree - Flannel does shrink alot and lint alot.

One more week and we are on our way! I was just looking at the pictures from the TX retreat. It looks like they had so much fun. I can't wait!!

Would any of you like for me to bring my paper piece pattern for the Candlequilter Star for you? I have been emailing out the pattern to board members in exchange for them to do one 12" block and send back to me to use on a charity quilt(s). Here is a picture of the block.

Thanks,
Sherryl

Ooooh, me too! Beautiful star! PMing you.

Feathers 05-26-2011 04:45 PM

Sherryl: I just PM'd you with my e-mail address. I'd love to have the block pattern and would love to make a block or two for your charity quilts.

quiltingnonie 05-26-2011 06:10 PM

So are you guys still interested in my paper piecing class? I'm thinking if you can make Candlequilter's star, you are experienced paper piecers! Don't be afraid to speak up - it won't hurt my feelings, I PROMISE :)

I'm thinking I can start with yours in the morning and move on to hers in the afternoon.

Seriously, I've never done any paper piecing. I'm clueless.

No,I am not experienced but if I have the pattern I should be able to do it after your class!RIGHT?

UglyCook 05-26-2011 06:16 PM

Do you think we're being a bit over optimistic?

2 Doods 05-26-2011 06:24 PM

Laurie,
I'm looking forward to your class too. I taught myself to PP so I am sure you have some tricks I need to know.

KarenBarnes 05-26-2011 06:26 PM

I'm very interested Laurie! I'm even lugging a sewing machine just so I can try it! That and to use some red scraps! :) I've never done paper piecing so I want to try it!

cbridges22 05-26-2011 06:45 PM

Laurie,I have tried PP but it gives me seizures!I know it can't be as hard as I make it so I am looking forward to you tips and class.

candlequilter 05-26-2011 07:00 PM

Thanks everyone for the PM's on the pp. I am sure that Laurie will give us all some really valuable info on pp. I have done had a class on it and hope to pick up some tips.

If my PM back to you sounds kinda different it is just because I am using the same response back for all the request so that I can keep to the system I have going in getting the pattern emailed to everyone who would like one.

Thanks and see y'all a week from today! Wooo hooo,
Sherryl

quiltingnonie 05-26-2011 07:32 PM

Actually, I think paper piecing is one of those processes that once you 'get it' it is simple--for me it was like a light bulb going on   But it can be tricky at first, and seems to be SEW much easier to have someone show you.

So, IMHO, once you master an easy block, you can make any PP block. :-D

KarenBarnes 05-26-2011 08:10 PM

I do believe that some of us are getting excited about our weekend! There is chatter on the thread again! I was beginning to think everyone went to sleep! :)

Laurie: I would still love to have your paper piecing class as I've not done too much PP and know that I'd learn lots from what you have to teach. Also, my sister Sharon is a brand new quilter-want-to-be and I think she'd really benefit from your class. I appreciate that you are willing to teach the class.

I think they were catching some zzzz now before all the fun begins!
I am getting packed and gathering supplies. Sounds like we are going to have too much food! So much for the diet!

KarenBarnes 05-29-2011 08:50 AM

I drove by the house yesterday and thought I should tell you all that the parking isn't quite as large as they make it out to be! Please do your best to carpool and/or bring the smallest vehicle you can! The website says 10 cars can park but it is more like 6-8 tight! We have a total of 18 people coming. We'll work it out but I thought I'd let you know!

I'll also do a last post on Wednesday with all that I know about food and PP! Looking forward to meeting all the new people and seeing all the "originals"! :)

valsma 05-29-2011 08:54 AM

This sounds like you are all going to have a great time. I would love to hear about another get together in the future, what fun it would be.

UglyCook 05-29-2011 09:10 AM

I'm at the beach this weekend and since I'm quilting next weekend, I didn't bring my machine (and there really wasn't room for it in the van with 6 people) but I did bring some quilt books to look through. And I found a quilt shop yesterday. Having major withdrawals. I had to buy some yarn and knitting needles to get through the weekend.

Can't wait for next weekend!

Darn, sorry I can't go, but have a great time! I am going on a retreat the 6-9th of June, at a place on Lake Cavanaugh. It is an absolutely gorgeous setting. Here are a couple pics.

Hi Karen:
Thanks for the parking info. Sharon and I will be together so that'll be one car. Diane will be there on Friday and will leave on Saturday so she'll have her own car.

Food:
Sharon's DH is smoking our turkey. I'll also have stuffing, gravy, cranberries, Best Food Mayo, and bread for turkey sandwiches. I think I'll also bring some fresh asparagus and roast that. Thought a turkey dinner for Thursday nigth might be good then snack on the rest of the turkey the rest of the week end.

Sharon and Diane: Don't know for sure what they'll be bringing except I know they won't be empty handed. Both said they'd bring a bottle of wine and snacky stuff.

SUGGESTION: Do you think we need to share our cell phone numbers with each other via PM so we can kind of keep in touch with each other as we need too while in route? It just seems like a safe precaution incase there are unexpected things that come up.

Prayers and good thoughts to all of you for a safe, uneventful trip from home to the retreat house and home again, home again, jiggidy jig!

Feathers

quiltingnonie 05-29-2011 10:09 AM

Feathers, you made me smile when you listed BEST FOODS Mayo. The ONLY way to go!

KarenBarnes 05-29-2011 03:08 PM

If anyone needs my number please send a PM. Since I ended up as coordinator, it would probably be helpful if I at least have yours. I have numbers already for Alice, Faith, Cindy H, Sandy, Jen and Lorraine.

Though we really don't have room for any more to stay overnight for the retreat, if we can work out a shuttle from the casino (1/2 mile away), I'm sure we could have a few more who might want to come for the day on Saturday, especially to learn the PP!

I also went to the restaurant (Beachdog Cafe)that we talked about doing breakfast on Friday morning. Yummy!!! The challenge is that the entire place only seats 14! We will probably have to eat in shifts! :) Remember that they only take cash or checks!

quilttiludrop 05-29-2011 03:18 PM

Update on food that was volunteered:
Condiments and a pound cake and coffee (Cbridges), a turkey, gravy etc (Feathers) a chicken lasagna and Costco muffins (quilttiludrop), red wine (Winewoman), birthday cake for 2Doods & Feathers and snacking vegetables and fruit (Karen), veggie/dip tray and salad (2Doods), fruit, ice cream, Hershey's syrup and a variety of teas (SewCornie), dessert (mistiliz), Ham, Roastbeef and Turkey for lunch along with some lettuce, tomatoes, bread, etc (TrishB), baked beans Patty Jo, and potato salad, a sack of potatoes and a couple dozen eggs in case anyone wants that for breakfasts(Candlequilter). If I've missed something (or added :)) something please let me know!

Feathers has a bingo game and a word game. Bring 3 fat quarters (purchased or cut it yourself).

Quiltingnonie is going to show us PP and will post a supply list.

The rental has a fitted sheet on the bed but only as a mattress cover. You will need bedding and towels. I believe they provide kitchen towels, soap, etc. I will confirm this before we go![/quote]

Chicken lasagne has been purchased! I will set out my Scrabble game, so it won't be forgotten! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! Quilting is a good place to start friendships! Food also helps! :-) Carol

P.S. I can bring some Christmas fabric for stockings also.

stitchy65 05-29-2011 10:08 PM

The stocking project sounds like fun and I'd love to contribute. I'll bring the necessary material. Any word on a supply list for the paper piecing lesson? What about the applique - what will be needed for that? I'm getting really excited for this coming weekend!! I hope I don't forget anything. I'm planning on waiting to see what food may be needed after everyone gets there and I'll make a run to Safeway.

Theresa 05-30-2011 01:40 AM

Ladies, have a wonderful time. I'll be thinking of you and looking forward to some pics of the retreat. Sew away!!! :-)

I would love to come over Saturday to learn the paper peicing, but have to go to Sisters OR for my nephews graduation. Sounds like your trip is turning into one fun weekend. Have a great time everyone.

KarenBarnes 05-30-2011 09:03 AM

Address for the house is 5299 NW 53rd Drive Lincoln City. It is on a weird corner on the left just after the bend in the road (Logan). I'm going to put up a mylar balloon so that you will have an easier time finding it! I'll arrive no later than 3 to make sure we have all that we need.

quiltingnonie 05-30-2011 11:18 AM

Karen, you are the BEST! I sure could have used you with help on all the fund raisers I chaired when my kids were in school!
