I think it was mentioned at our last retreat that we were interested in doing a spring retreat? How many are interested and what weekend should we consider? I have looked at a number of houses in Lincoln City and there are a few that will hold up to 20. Of course, the price isn't nearly as good as the last one but let's see what we can do! PM me if you can come and what weekend would work for you. We'll choose the weekend that is most popular!

Wine Woman 04-01-2011 07:14 AM

I too have looked at houses we should compare notes. May and June look good for me. April is booked with our 35th anniversary and wine events! I'll help in any way I can.

Kitsie 04-01-2011 07:28 AM

Thanks for the notice, Karen! I have grandson duties most of the spring and summer as DD & SIL are busy horse showing!
You ladies have a wonderful time! And thanks for the notice.

Feathers 04-01-2011 11:45 AM

Hi Karen:
Thanks for the reminder. I would LOVE to go but April and May are really booked up for us. We're headed to Pheonix for 2 weeks the end of April and first week of May. Our kids are coming with their inlaws from NewYork are coming mid April and our daughter who has brain cancer wants to come and spend a week with us mid May? Her visit sort of depends on how she's feeling. We'll be going to a family reunion i Calif. n mid June, too so if you get something cooked up for end of June or first of July, I'd probably love to come and could make it. Also, if you rent a house for 20 people and don't have enough folks to fill the 20 beds I could probably help with that with my quilt group....all great ladies.

Our group rents a place in Lincoln City Roads End area in October for our retreat. It sleeps 8 people (not separate beds) but it's a lovely home, 1 block from the beach but full view in all the windows. Its listed under Lincoln City Oregon Vacation Rentals TIDES INN-RD'S END RENTAL #12116. It's about $245 per night according to my last check on the net (april 2009). We've stayed there 2 or 3 times and all have loved it. Lots of room, plenty of room for sewing machines, "CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN and in the evening the deer come around to forage from the woods behind the house. You might give it a look on the net.

Thanks for the info Sandy! We'll see how many are a go on this one! I don't have any dates at this point so keep an eye on the thread to see if it works out you can join us! I hope things go well with all your travels, etc!

Colbaltjars62 04-01-2011 03:50 PM

Welcome back Karen!!!!!!! :D
Hope you had a good time away...
I am game for wherever and whenever you want to visit Lincoln city again.
Have a good weekend all.
Faith :XD:

KarenBarnes 04-01-2011 04:09 PM

I had a wonderful time! Tsunami and all! I have a nice tan on my arms and face but I acclimatized to the warm temps really quick so now I'm cold! Got to spend a week on an aircraft carrier with my Navy son. That was an experience! Got to see the new grandson and hold him for 2 days straight! Glad to be back even though I need to wait for the warm!

quiltingnonie 04-01-2011 04:26 PM

So happy to hear you had a great vacation, Karen. Bet you have some stories to tell!!
I will just follow the thread along to see what is the concensus. Any plans I have right now are not set in concrete yet, so could be flexible.

Cindy~
Happy Anniversary! We are going to have our 30th in June.

Karen~
Welcome back! Anxious to hear more about your trip!
I am pretty open so I'll watch to see what weekend works best.

Looking forward to another trip to the beach - but without a "trip" this time. Good thing it was not my sewing foot

sew cornie 04-01-2011 10:18 PM

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this Karen. Sometime in May looks best for me. I want to be home for Mother's Day so I wouldn't commit to that weekend.

Glad you had a great trip and congrats on the new grandbaby!

KarenBarnes 04-02-2011 06:51 AM

At the moment I'm targeting the 3rd or 4th weekend of May. I'll be looking for other houses to back up the original, in case we have enough who can go!

reeskylr 04-02-2011 06:52 AM

Ooo. Depending on what it costs when the plans are made, this sounds like way too much fun! I live in SW Washington.

mrs_uncle_fuzzy 04-02-2011 07:30 AM

Oh this sounds great I have never been to a retreat! Hopefully I wouldn't cramp your style being a fairly new quilter with lots of questions. Like what the heck do you bring, and what exactly do you do at a retreat? I am fairly open on dates as long as I know before the 15th of the month before the retreat, my job needs that much notice....darn job. I can't say at the moment I will definately be able to go but when you have a date I can let you know for sure. That is if you have room for someone without a lot of experience. If not I would totally understand, as I know people want to get things accomplished.

trish b 04-02-2011 09:36 AM

Hi everyone, I would be interested to go to the bbeach again. My schedule is very open. the 3rd or 4th weekend in May would be great.

Mrs Uncle Fuzzy We would love to have you. We all do our own projects so a beginner is welcome. You may come away from a weekend with us much wiser.

Happy anniversary to you lucky ladies & best wishes for many more. Trish

The 4th weekend in May is Memorial Day weekend.

KarenBarnes 04-02-2011 02:12 PM

Thanks Laurie! You're right that probably won't work! I also just remembered that I have a new granddaughter due the middle of May! Hmmm...I'll get back to you on this one.

zz-pd 04-02-2011 04:26 PM

Hi Karen,
let me know when and how much, and I will see if hubby can afford it.
God bless.
Penny

Wine Woman 04-02-2011 05:54 PM

Uuuuu-last weekend is Memorial Weekend-very busy weekend for us!

Thank you all for the nice anniversary wishes and Happy anniversary early to 2 Doods.

Welcome back Karen and congratulations on a new grandbaby and one to come! I'm getting a little jealous with all your new babies!! :-D

Lilrain 04-02-2011 07:37 PM

I Pm'd, am interested and also told Trish B about this

Lilrain 04-05-2011 12:10 AM

will keep checking back for more information

KarenBarnes 04-05-2011 01:52 PM

Okay ladies, I've done some research and there are two weekends available. The weekend of June 3,4,5 and the weekend of June 24,25,26. I have two houses available but will want to book one of them ASAP! One house is the one we used last year. For a small group this seemed to work. ($200 a night, linens included) If we have a large group (10+) I found an awesome deal and the house holds 22 with many more beds than the first! ($280 a night + $15 per person above 8)This one requires you bring your own bedding/towels. Both houses have stairs and both are in Lincoln City! Please post on this thread which weekend you'll commit to and we'll determine which house is going to be needed. I want to book one of them by this weekend!!!

2 Doods 04-05-2011 02:40 PM

I'd like the first weekend because it's my birthday and what a way to Party! But either is fine! Sounds like fun! No problem with bringing my own bedding and towels. Thanks Karen for house hunting for us!

KarenBarnes 04-05-2011 03:12 PM

2 reserved, ? to go...:)

sew cornie 04-05-2011 04:49 PM

I'll have to check the calendar but will get back to you by tomorrow.

On another note: we'll soon have another Board member in our area. Last week she posted a thread asking advice on where to look for a place to live in Washington County. She and her DH are moving here from Tennessee soon. He'll be working in Hillsboro.

Her board name is "thrums". She's going to let me know when she's here and a bit settled and maybe some of us can get together for a welcome tea/coffee time.

Colbaltjars62 04-05-2011 08:36 PM

I'm game Karen, for either weekend. Let me know what you decide. :XD:

KarenBarnes 04-05-2011 08:37 PM

Jen that sounds like a plan as long as I can bring hot cocoa! :)

KarenBarnes 04-05-2011 08:39 PM

I'm shooting for the first weekend of June. Typically the last weekend really isn't all that nice. I'll wait until Saturday though to book things depending on numbers.

quiltingnonie 04-06-2011 02:41 PM

Karen and everyone:
I will not be able to spend the weekend with you all, but I have a proposal for you all: I could come down on Saturday for the day, and would be willing to teach a paper piecing class. I have taught them before, and I don't want to brag, but let's just say it is my 'speciality'. Perhaps everyone already knows how, so this could be a mute point. I have patterns and instructions (from my other classes) that I could provide. Please let me know what you think, and PLEASE DON't FEEL OBLIGATED TO SAY YES IF YOU TRULY AREN'T INTERESTED!!! I will not be offended whatsoever.

KarenBarnes 04-06-2011 06:14 PM

I'm not hearing from many! Pass the word to the people in the area! There are a lot of new names on the board from around here!

Laurie, we may take you up on that offer! I've just fuddled through it without a pattern (crazy patch style) so it would be fun to do it the right way!

Wine Woman 04-06-2011 07:15 PM

Karen thanks for all your venturing through the houses. Was there not much available in May? I'll have to get back to you on weekends. I would lean towards the beginning of June. I have commited to a two day event at the end of June but need to look up the dates.

Another thought was end of June is too close to Sisters Quilt Show. I know some of us stay overnight for that event.

I'm interested in paper piecing. I have taken one class but would like to see other techniques if anyone is interested.

UglyCook 04-06-2011 07:35 PM

First weekend in June sounds good to me

Bluelady 04-06-2011 07:48 PM

First weekend in June would work for me also.

Feathers 04-06-2011 11:34 PM

Hi Karen:
The first week end in June sounds good for me. If you have more house than people to fill it, I probably have a couple quilt friends who would be interested. I brought one of the ladies, Rose, to our get-together at your house last year.

\I'm interested in paper piecing.

Feathers

KarenBarnes 04-07-2011 07:20 AM

There were quite a few houses available in both May and June. Just chose places based on prices. Between Mother's Day and Memorial Weekend, not much time left in May so I chose June. Still not much response, so I'm not sure that the retreat is even going to go!

0tis 04-07-2011 09:23 AM

When you decide which weekend - I may be interested - I live in Northern Calif. just hop, skip and jump from Oregon. Haven't been to Lincoln City in a few years but it was beautiful last time I was there.
Do you have double rooms or singles? Because I snore so I would need some one that can put up with that. This could be fun.....

KarenBarnes 04-07-2011 02:11 PM

I'm shooting for the first weekend in June. The room situation depends on how many we have respond! One house has 4 and the other has 6.

Karen, I am interested and I was with Trish B yesterday and I know she is interested.

KarenBarnes 04-09-2011 08:57 PM

If you and Trish are going, I have 4 people confirmed! Hope to hear from more!

KarenBarnes 04-10-2011 06:50 AM

I've heard from UglyCook, Lilrain, Bluelady, 2Doods, and Feathers as going! Anybody I've missed?

Feathers, you are welcome to invite more people! I'm thinking I'd like to try the house that holds 22 but we would need at least 8-10 people to make that work. There would be room for the snorers there! :) FYI~There are stairs at both homes.

stitchy65 04-10-2011 08:25 AM

I would absolutely love to go but it's all going to deptnd on when the weekend is and more importantly how much it will cost. I'm the only income for the house right now so moeny is a bit tight. So, if an amount can be figured out, that would be helpful in making my decision.
