It is French Knots. LOTS AND LOTS of them tightly sewn together. Then (doesn't show up well on the photo) I add sparkly paint on the top. So between to the metallic thread and the paint the whole thing glows when the sun shines in the room or at night in dim lighting.

I think you are right. I kinda remember seeing that show too. And I asked the teacher of this class and she said that the women that created this technigue was from overseas. I do not know her name. Sorry!
