The right hand side is blue-green (no laughing at how bad it is!) left side is going to be the Amy Butler fabrics pictured..i was thinking of yellow or purples for the middle?

(photo of me + 1 of my dogs for no particular reason)

I think that purples for the middle would look good, because then you've got a slice of the colour wheel that goes from red to purple to blue-green.

The red fabric on the right was my favourite until i cut the left hand one, with the pinks, it's amazing! (can't believe I'm so excited over material!)

I got a bundle of Amy Butler+Joel Dewberry orange fabrics on the way, I think the border for the whole thing is going to be purple or blue..it's a border of 35 inches each side. I know I'm doing everything the wrong way but it hasn't fallen apart

    yet.

(the beauty in the other photo is one of my darlings, she just turned 10! Springer cross)

Wonderful start for your quilt. Please post picture of completed quilt. You will have to name the quilt. That will be part of the fun.

Good start! I'd go with the rainbow or color wheel idea, too.
And I, too, get excited about the colors. In fact, I've been known to open a bin and just 'feel' every piece of fabric I have.....it's a disease...no known cure from what I hear!

LOL! Another fabric junkie is born! Welcome to the sickness! Looks like you have a serious case- a lot of big names in there.

Is this quilt going to be all strips? Are you making it up as you go? Congratulations to you for jumping right in and designing your own with your very first quilt. I have a feeling this will be the first of many... gotta have an excuse to buy all that fabric. :0)

I agree with purples for the middle, but really, you are doing a great job on your own with picking colors and fabrics.

I wouldn't worry one little bit about doing things the "wrong" way. I am a bit of a rebel quilter myself- I make all my seams 1/2" (which means that I design all my own quilts, too). There is nothing at all wrong with doing things your own way, and lots of times, everything right. It's great to think outside the box! I love it! Can't wait to see the finshed product!

Lisa is right, there's no 'wrong' - just because something 'has always been done' a certain way doesn't mean it can't be developed or improved! and new quilters are often the ones to push the boundaries because they're not yet 'set in their ways'! LOL

I love your fabrics - is it still OK to say 'funky' or does it show my age? LOL I agree with a purple transition in the centre from your blue to your reds. Don't forget to show us your progress! Your 'puppy' is pretty cute too! A friend of mine has a springer girl - she paid a fortune to take her to a pedigree stud to get her in pup but when the pups came they were half border collie - the neighbour's dog got to her first! My friend called them 'springbords' and found loving homes for all 9 of them! Never got her stud fee back though! LOL
