Hi Dresi. The first item is to select your fabric. The strips are normally cut from 1.5" to 2.5". After sewing them into sets, then you start cutting the various widths. Some people have charts to refer to with what fabric is assigned a number. Then you sew them into a loop. By referring to your chart, you then know where you need to undo a seam. Lining the strips up on a design wall is very helpful. Here is a Bargello bed runner by the same designer.
