75 yr old quilts
#1
My husband's aunt is 94 years old and sharp as a tack... remembers everything. She's in a nursing home now because of a broken hip and heart problem but we get together the 1st Saturday of every month for a family gathering. Mostly cousins which we are.. and there are 6 or 7 quilters in the group. Our Aunt told her daughters that she thought there might be an old quilt top in a barrel in the garage.. so the girls went and found a top that was all hand sewn by our Aunt over 75 years ago.. so I got it and took to a lady in our guild that is kind of a historian and restores old quilts and hand quilts too.. asked her what she thought and she was thrilled to get it.. she had it done in no time and we took it to our next gathering to show aunt. She also had some blocks made on old sugar sacks... because they were machine sewn I took them and took them apart .. the were sewn two across and four down and I wanted to make it bigger so each daughter could have a nice quilt. I added the light blue sashing (aunt's request) and did the quilting on it.. Aunt is the one holding the quilt in her lap...
