Yes it sure could and if you had more time it could be totally personalized. I made one for my grand daughter ( 1 ) that was from the pattern in Mccalls magazine. I think I posted it if not here it is. The quilt matched the beautiful cake her mother made.. in terms of color and flowers and butterflies.

This is the birthday quilt I made last October for paytons 1st.. tried to go with the colors of the cake that my daughter made for her. This is her first fondant cake i think she did fabulous !! It took hours .. many layers and she made an individual small one for P as well. The quilt is entered in a contest on the Mc calls quilt web site at this moment.

YOu can always ask some to send you one inch strips .. that can up your stash pretty quick ;)>

Oh! I LOVE that idea! If you did it on a "blank" background (as you did with the white), you could start it for a child and let them pick a new fabric to add each year!
