I think I would put strips of 4 patch set on point set in the sashing material on each side...I did understand that you want it wider not longer?

I know you don't want to remove the borders, but I suggest you remove them and add another vertical row of blocks. It would have better proportions that way. Your fabric is lovely.

Use the fabrics from the center of the quilt and make a piano key border only on the two sides. It will make it wider and still look like part of the quilt. Bind it with a strip of each color from the center and it will add the color to the top and bottom with out making it longer.

I agree about the proportion, esp if you just want to add width. I know removing the side borders would be a pain but you have already put in the time and effort to make it so very nice... don't sell yourself short and finish it with a vertical row of blocks and sashing.

I am crying a little in sympathy with you.

That is a beautiful quilt I would take off the border and add another row of the blocks it is too pretty to try different borders in case you wouldnt loke them then you will be real unhappy. way too pretty to not keep it as it looks

That is so cute. What great fabrics. So much fun. I think a piano key border would be beautiful.
