I am making a D9P for a friend's baby, and am using yellow/white striped material in some blocks and yellow with dots on other blocks. I have run out of the dotted material, so am trying to work out the best layout before I sew the blocks together. The top and bottom borders are also not done yet.
Hubby and my quilting mom like the stripey blocks in the middle, I like them in diagonal corners and now can't decide. My husband thinks by putting them in the middle it looks deliberate as opposed to having run out of fabric. I actually had planned to put the stripes in, so it was deliberate... :D

What do you all think?

(Sorry about the crumpled blanket, just threw it on the bed in the guestroom)

I like the middle best, too. Seems to me on the corners they were an afterthought.

Yes, I can see what you mean! I guess I just liked the diagonal flow from top to bottom. Wish I'd done 3 of each and saved me this decision nonsense...

I like the diagonal layout. Beautiful colors.

I like the middle best and I love the fabrics. It's going to look great when finished.

I hate to be the odd one out, but I would mix up the blocks so the stripes are here and there throughout the quilt (although at this point I guess you would have to unsew some of those blocks, and that's a pain). Any way you do it, it will look great and your friend will be very pleased with the baby gift.

Like dunster, I would personally mix them up so it is "randon".

Oh yes, that's a good idea, but I am in a bit of a rush, as the baby is due this week and I still need to quilt and bind it. Also, this is the first quilt top I have made without a class, apart form a practice top I made, and I am so pleased that most of the points meet that I am scared to pick it apart.

I too think I would mix them up and then it would like it was intended to be that way from the beginning.

I think either one would be fine. I think I lean more towards the top picture...the more solid yellow in the first one looks like a path.
