Donna your batiks are beautiful. Not famillar with Little Brown Bird Quilt but perfect for Dear Jane. I have the book and Cd for Jane. Must finish my Affairs of the Heart Quilt first.

Posting picture of those new fabrics!
Batiks would look great in each of the quilts! I do remember seeing an all batik DJ. I think with LBB it would be good to add more texture here and there. I also have found [being forced out of my normal 'box' with AOTH] that it is important to add a little 'punch' to your creation. You don't have to be way 'out there,' but stick in something with a contrasting color - or a different tone/texture that sets the rest of the quilt off, or that pulls your eye to one part of the block/section you are working on. You don't want a stark contrast that doesn't tie in at all. But when you look at some of the Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler type fabrics, or the Northcott and Seattle Bay florals - you can see how the lines add to your small applique pieces. These fabrics give you all sorts of different looks to chose from. One of my applique instructors/friend a while back taught me how to 'audition' fabrics. Cut the piece you are looking for out of your paper copy and use the remaining window to find the perfect spot in your fabrics.

Also - was reading part of Margaret Docherty's LBB book - she says sometimes the most hideous looking batiks - that have this 'all-over' color variation with every color in the spectrum & looks like it should be burned... make the best choices for applique pieces. Envision what a small section of a fabric you might even hate looks like - you might love it!

..on another note - don't think I like this new board!!! I may have been too used to the old one - but WHERE are the EMOTICONS?? there was much more visible with the older system. It seems that this is a site that contains more advertising and hence can be made to contain more flexibility??

All of you are such an inspiration. When I begin mine I will try the 10" blocks too.
