Cool All Scrappy King's X - mini-tut @ post #47 - Update @ post #51

I've never seen an all scrappy KX and wanted to do one. After studying the block, I saw that it needed a grid and I really love it presented this way. It seems the juxtapositions of the blocks and colors interplay with one another better. Can you see how it dances across the quilt and patterns emerge and colors change? To bring out the background better, I chose large scale prints for the lights and small scale for the darks.

Sadly, while arranging blocks, I discovered the blades on about half of my blocks spin to the right and the rest of the blocks spin to the left. OMG, it has to be one way or the other; not both! It was all kosher when I started out on the design wall. Then the blocks came down to be pressed and squared and things got moved around. The small HST's met the darks head on and the lights met head on, but because I grabbed the wrong end of the block when joining qtr. sections, it caused my center HST's to be off so some meet colors correctly and others don't. Now the lights are side by side and the darks are side by side. haha. So now I guess I have a new style KX block!

Then a few weeks passed from the time I had sewn on the vertical grid first and came along later and added the horizontal grid with the strips cut 1/4" wider than the others! Now I've got an interesting looking grid that I kind of like, lol. All because I had forgotten the cut size.

I guess these are happy accidents making my KC quilt a different look than typically. Despite all this, I just love my quilt and could look at it for hours. I'm just drawn to it. It's nothing like the 9P Ziggy I just finished. Bright and happy scrappies are nice, but the KC is my favorite! I hope you enjoy seeing my quilt and hope you don't make the same mistakes I did if you make one! Haven't decided borders yet, but something romantic and delicate is in order for this one. Here are some close ups too!

If you hadn't said something, I wouldn't have even noticed. It's a lovely quilt.

Beautiful, bright and colorful.
I too tend to turn blocks around when I press and join them.

It's very pretty. I love scrappy quilts. I see nothing wrong. Stop being so hard on yourself.
