There is a way of making a "square within a square" and then cutting it into fourths making a group of triangles already sewn together. It's very Wow! Email me if you are interested.

Karla, great minds must think alike because I saved that picture from your thread to research how to make it myself! :)

To save myself the headache of cutting all those separate triangles, I was thinking about doing all HST and then filling in the remaining area of the big triangle with three squares. But that's going to chop up your pattern on the fabric so I don't know. Cutting and sewing triangles just scares me. :)

Actually if you count the large triangles, by color, you will find that there are 4 each. So my guess is that they were squares sewn together and then cut as triangles. Have to figure out the placement of them though. Might be a fun challenge to figure out.

I always loved puzzles as a kid. I think I have more fun trying to decontruct/reconstruct quilts than I actually do making them.

I think it came from one of the recent quilting magazines....I just don't remember which one, but I recognize the pattern. Don't know the name either. Sorry, I don't have time to look for it right now, but if you remind me in a week I'll try to find it.

    Barn Burn
Go to All peoplequilt.com and search for 'project X marks the spot', there is a quilt very similiar to this on it , and it really looks like the same quilt but in different colors. There is a free pattern download for personal use only for this quilt I am referring to. you might also check out American Patchwork & Quilting - Quilt Sampler-Quilts and More on all people quilt.com to find this pattern. Hope this helps.
