Apparently I have no idea what I am doing!

I like it - the log cabin is fun to piece - I made one and cut all my fabrics then did the speed sewing - just feeding one after the other into my machine - I think cutting took longer than anything. The fun is there are so many ways to arrange the blocks - it can change the whole look.
I really had to concentrate to figure out what you did (wrong - your words) - its so subtle I bet no one would notice but you. Its beautiful and your friend is lucky to have you and your talent. Keep on going...

I have never made a log cabin, either, so I thank you for posting this mistake. It took me forever to even find it. I wouldn't want to show how my mistakes look, so I thank you for doing so, it will help me.
I made a my first Bow Tuck recently and sewed the inside pockets upside down and didn't notice it until I had everything else done. Too late to do anything about it, so I just said I had some secret pockets, just poke something up in them and they have nowhere to fall, LOL.

I like the fabric choices and colors you have chosen.
When I am doing log cabins that need precision, I paper piece them for uniformity. It appears that your seam allowances are not uniform. PPing will help with that.
These blocks will go nicely for potholders or mug rugs.
