Default baby book

A few months ago someone posted photos of a baby book she'd made out of small pieced and quilted squares. I was so intrigued by it that I tried making one--sans instructions-- and these photos are the result. It's horribly sewn and there's no excuse for that except it was an experiment that I finally just wanted done. After I got the "pages" made, I couldn't figure out how she put hers together; the way I did it is clearly not correct but a baby probably wouldn't care!

There are three peek-a-boo pages -- the theme is dogs, as you can see -- well, dogs and transportation -- backed with a non peek a boo square. The front is the red and white stripe peek-a-boo and that's wrong; it should not have a peek a boo cover, but I couldn't figure how to put them together with a plain square front and back.

The OP's book was wonderful! and very professional looking. Mine was just a fun experimental project, rather poorly made, but I'm showing it, anyway, in case someone else wants to try.

Once you crack the way to sew the book in order or in the correct sequence it/future books will make lovely unique gifts for small children. Its a super idea.

This is adorable! I think you did a wonderful job for working without a pattern. I actually bought a kit a few months ago for a baby book and it comes with instructions.

Well, you're right - if I couldn't make one until I had it all figured out, it'd never get done. I should feel free to experiment. And your next one will be better, but as you said, no baby would care.

What a wonderful idea. Your next ones will be less stressful and more fun to make. Thank you for sharing

Love the 'peek a boo' idea. Really fun!

Anne, would you mind sharing the name of the kit or where you purchased it? I would love to buy the kit and start a book for my first grandchild who is on his/her way. Thanks!

It was actually a kit from my LQS that unfortunately they do not have anymore, but it used the Quilting Treasures Little Golden Books panels. The only other thing required is flat batting and the instructions are printed on the panel. I hope you can find it! Congratulations on your first grandchild!
