Yes, even tho I dislike sewing on black it still makes the other bright colors POP. What I do when sewing on black fabric is to put black thread in the bobbin and a medium gray on top so I can see where I am stitching.

For the big ones I used a jelly roll cut in half - so instead of 2.5 inches, it was 1.75. And then I sewed them in strips, squared it and then cut squares, and then triangles. For the smaller ones, same idea just not as big. And the middle is just the leftover strips.

What was a HUGE pain was that I wasn't thinking about sizes so I just made them. The middle one is 7 inches, the other 4 are 8.5 inches. So getting it all lined up was annoying.

It's 39 inches without the black border - and 45 inches with the border. So again, not too big!! And much more manageable. I had mentioned in one of my other threads that this year I was working on more complicated quilts and therefore, not massive ones. I want to be able to quilt them myself instead of having to send them out to long arm quilters!
