I am trying to make a blooming 9 patch. I get that you need large busy prints and that each fabric should share some common colors with the piece they are next to. But other than that I am at a loss.

Here is what I have tentatively picked out. The pattern calls for 8 and I only have 7. So I need to find one more. I have pinks at both ends but not in the middle. Is that a problem? Should I try to move them all together? Are the 3 blue/green ones in the middle too close to the same? I forgot that there was suppose to be a change in value. Am I totally off? Oh and I have a blue and black that would match the last one on the right. But it has black. The two before it have brown. yea? nay?

All help is greatly appreciated. If you think I am totally off base let me know! I appreciate constructive criticism. Positive comments are always nice but they don't really help to learn and improve :)

The first 7 one more needs to be added. The one on the right for the center.

After looking at the picture maybe I need to flip the middle 3. I think the colors still match ok. Is this better?

There aren't any rules for fabric selection fot B9P that I am aware of. I used some very small prints in mine. And I've seen some that used solids exclusively. I like my fabrics to "flow" into each other, but some like high contrast. It is totally up to you. I used 6 fabrics in my king sized quilt. I am on my iPod but you can find mine by checking out my topics. I called it "Blooming Lilacs". Good luck!

    your fabrics are lovely.
i did notice though they seem to be all about the same.
alot of time in order for a quilt to work is by the (VALUES) of the fabrics chosen- the colors really have nothing to do with it- you can use any and all colors- but the LIGHT-MEDIUM-DARK values are what make the quilt work-
for your final fabric i would try to find something to contrast- (make the quilt pop) if all of your fabs are medium try adding a dark= or a very light

I would take out the large pink flowered one and put either a light or a dark one for contrast. Can't wait to see the results! Your fabrics are nice

Your lilac one is beautiful! Lilacs remind me of my grandma's house :) Your fabrics blended very smoothly. I love it!

I just love your fabric choice, sorry I can't help with your question, but believe me, there are so many good quilters out there on this site that can help you. Have fun working on this quilt, and by the way you and your soldier are a beautiful couple!!

I love the fabrics....I think with the B9P as long as you have different colors ( you do) it should be fine. If you want to find different values it will add more drama. But I think it depends on what you are going for. I love modern looking prints and I would choose prints just like yours.
