The (now 15 yrs old) gal that I am teaching to sew made a blue jean quilt and it turned out really cute, heavy, but cute. She wanted a camo butterfly material on the back and we put some on the front and some blue jean on the back, used pockets and any of the tags that were on the old jeans. She also sewed a wonky jean heart on it and left the edges to fray. She loves it but sure was a job to clip :D Didn't get pictures  but will get her to bring it back over. We also broke a needle....on a pocket that we didn't leave enough fabric to sew on

beetle, you are exactly right. i left enough fabric around the pockets to sew and then clip. very casual measuring. in fact no measuring at all. just eye ball and when it frays any crooked or uneven seams are beautifully hidden.
have fun.
